1 Blondie - Sunday Girl ............................................................. classic song, excellent number one

2 Roxy - MusicDance Away ........................................................ never cared much for this song and it still gets lots of plays on the Gold stations

3 Anita Ward - Ring My Bell ....................................................... owned this at the time and loved the song back then but don't care much for it now

4 Earth Wind & Fire With The Emotions - Boogie Wonderland ......... great disco song that I just never got around to buying at the time

5 Peaches & Herb - Reunited ...................................................... dull, dull soppy song

6 M - Pop Muzik ......................................................................... owned this on both 7" and Double Groove 12". As corny as anything but a great song

7 Electric Light Orchestra - Shine A Little Love .............................. ELO trying to go a bit disco but it's a poor song

8 McFadden & Whitehead - Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now ..................... liked this back then, sounds tired now

9 The Shadows - Theme From 'the Deer Hunter' (Cavatina) ........... boring (mark I)

10 David Bowie - Boys Keep Swingin' ......................................... this may be the first Bowie song that I actually liked at the time of release

11 Donna Summer - Hot Stuff .................................................... excellent disco song, good fusion of rock and disco and that thumping beat is magnificent

12 Abba - Does Your Mother Know .............................................. never liked Abba and hated this even more. Awful

13 Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways ......................................... good, moody song

14 Tubeway Army - Are 'Friends' Electric ..................................... good song, sounded like nothing else at the time

15 Art Garfunkel - Bright Eyes .................................................... hideous song

16 Sparks - The Number One Song In Heaven ............................. not bad. Beat The Clock was better

17 Sister Sledge - We Are Family ................................................ never cared much for this one

18 Edwin Starr - HAPPY Radio ..................................................... nor this. I much preferred Contact

19 The Skids - Masquerade ........................................................ after Into The Valley this was a let down

20 The Police - Roxanne ............................................................ had this on blue vinyl 7" but now I can't really listen to the record anymore

21 Eruption - One Way Ticket ..................................................... awful Euro disco from the Boney M related group

22 The Undertones - Jimmy Jimmy ............................................. not their best

23 Amii Stewart - Knock On Wood .............................................. had this on clear vinyl 12". Good disco song

24 Squeeze - Up The Junction ..................................................... and had this on lilac vinyl. Not as good as Cool For Cats but still quite good

25 Dollar - Who Were You With In The Moonlight .......................... awful, sugary rubbish

26 The Clash - I Fought The Law ................................................. not their best

27 Quantum Jump - The Lone Ranger .......................................... irritating song, the theme from Kenny Everett's programme on ITV

28 Boney M - Hooray Hooray It's A Holi-Holiday ............................ one of their worst hits in what wasn't that great a catalogue of songs!

29 The Damned - Love Song ....................................................... they finally got to chart with a rather boring song

30 Lene Lovich - Say When ......................................................... not as irritating as Lucky Number, more bland than anything else

31 Cheap Trick - I Want You To Want Me ...................................... didn't mind this back then, sounds dull now

32 Elvis Costello - Accidents Will Happen ...................................... not bad but not his best

33 Gerry Rafferty - Night Owl ...................................................... imagine Baker Street without the killer sax riff and this is a duller version of what would be left

34 The Monks - Nice Legs Shame About Her Face .......................... awful, corny song by Hudson Ford under another name

35 John Williams - Cavatina (Original Soundtrack From 'the Deer Hunter') ... boring (mark II)

36 Chas & Dave - Gertcha .......................................................... these two guys really did make some rubbish. Awful

39 Linda Clifford - Bridge Over Troubled Water ............................. awful disco-by-numbers version of S&G's song

40 Voyager - Halfway Hotel ......................................................... good song

7 Electric Light Orchestra - Shine A Little Love .............................. ELO trying to go a bit disco but it's a poor song

As a lifelong ELO fan - and Jeff Lynne was/is a terrific songwriter and producer - I was disappointed extremely with this song - especially when there was one killer song on the album that should have been released as a single - I Need Her Love. It seems that they chickened out and instead of going for an absolutely blinding ballad - they went for this 'Very Disco' (the album was Discovery) bland and sickly tune!

I was never a fan or anything and only really know the singles but I did like a few of the singles they released from 1976 to 1978 but I just couldn't get into much of what they released in 1979 and 1980. They just seemed to lose direction. Shine A Little Love and The Diary Of Horace Wimp were poor, Don't Bring Me Down was better and Last Train To London was OK. But their 1980 singles were very poor, I didn't like any of them and by then they sounded tired.

Thanks Mushy.
