Posted June 8, 200916 yr Latest Betting 8/6/09 Roger Federer 11/10 Rafael Nadal 11/4 Andrew Murray 10/3 Novak Djokovic 15/2 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 12/1 Juan Martin Del Potro 22/1 Robin Soderling 25/1 Andy Roddick 25/1 Fernando Verdasco 40/1 Marin Cilic 66/1 Gael Monfils 80/1 Fernando Gonzalez 80/1 Tomas Berdych 125/1 Mario Ancic 125/1 Ivo Karlovic 125/1 Lleyton Hewitt 125/1 Marcos Baghdatis 125/1 Ernests Gulbis 125/1 David Ferrer 125/1 Tommy Haas 125/1 Nikolay Davydenko 125/1 James Blake 150/1 Can't wait for it to begin. Especially after Federer's performance at the French Open. I think the calls for him to recognised as the greatest tennis player ever are quite true. What he has achieved is quite remarkable... and there's a long time yet to improve on his Grand Slam titles! Murray has a great shot of winning Wimbeldon. He looked good in the French Open, although he kind of bottled it in the QFs. He's definitely got the ability to beat Nadal (who I doubt will be at his best) and Federer on his day, but his problem is definitely bottling it...
June 8, 200916 yr Men's tennis = cba. Bore's the $h!t out of me tbh. Women's tennis - a different story, would love to see Ana Ivanovic or Elena Dementieva to win.. My odds: Serena Williams 12/11 Venus Williams 12/11 Dinara Safina 9/4 Victoria Azarenka 4/1 Caroline Wozniacki 4/1 Jie Zheng 9/1 Marion Bartoli 9/1 Elena Dementieva 15/1 Svetlana Kuznetsova 15/1 Ana Ivanovic 20/1 Jelena Jankovic 25/1 Vera Zvonereva 35/1 Samantha Stosur 50/1 Elena Vesnina 50/1 A British Wildcard 500/1 Amelie Mauresmo 500/1 Ivanovic, Jankovic, Kuznetsova, Dementieva aren't as good on grass as they are on other surfaces. Safina is a bit too unexperienced, she doesnt seem like a winner at all, I see her easily being upset.. Vera Zvonareva never beats the Williams Sisters. Bartoli is again a big contender this year, she's flawless on grass. I see newcomers Azarenka and Wozniacki challenging for the semis and maybe even the win, both class players and both have what it takes to win. Would love them to win as well.. Shall be interesting xD
June 8, 200916 yr Author I can never get over the groaning on women's tennis. I can never take it seriously enough.
June 8, 200916 yr Nadal's defeat at RGS has added a bit of needed life to men's tennis, I'd go with Federer to win Wimbledon and I expect Murray to get to the semi's. The women's tour is as lively as ever and I'm expecting Azarenka, Kuznetsova, Zvonereva (If she's fit enough), Wozniacki and the Williams sisters to get quite far. I think Safina could get to the quarters and I'm hoping Jankovic and Ivanovic reverse their run of bad form. Dementieva's fallen completley off it since March, I wonder if she can repeat her semi final success of last year.
June 8, 200916 yr is it me or is Murray going a little bit Henman now  :P Why d'ya think that? He's already won more masters than Henman and has made it higher in the rankings. He was never gonna win RGS and I think he did amazingly to make it to the top 8.
June 8, 200916 yr Author Nah Murray's done well, and he's only 22/23. He is a bit of a bottler like Henman, although he might grow out of it. But what he did in the French Open was pretty spectacular...
June 8, 200916 yr Nadal is better than Federer, maybe not as classy and graceful strokeplay but Nadal has the mental edge over Federer and Federer seems to choke against Nadal so that to me makes Nadal the better player I don't think Nadal is fully fit atm but hope he wins Wimbledon
June 8, 200916 yr I definitely agree that Federer is scared of Nadal, I think based on raw skill that Federer is better though.
June 8, 200916 yr Author Nadal won't win Wimbledon this year. A fully fit Nadal only just managed to beat Federer last year, and he won't be anywhere near full fitness. It's between Federer and Murray.
June 8, 200916 yr Nadal can NEVER be counted out. This knee problem isn't a new thing, it's been a recurring problem for years which just gets a bit worse every now and then. He should be pretty fit for Wimbledon. Maybe Federer is a slight favourite now after his victory at the French, but Nadal is still right behind him, especially given he'll be more motivated than ever after his shock defeat. Murray won't win Wimbledon, he just isn't as good on grass as Nadal and Federer. He's the best player in the world on hard courts now imo though, so he really should win the US Open, especially considering rumours are that Federer won't be playing that (his wife's due to give birth around then)...
June 8, 200916 yr Well seeing how Roger Federer picked up Mononucleosis in December 2007 an illness similar in impact to Glandular Fever that was not full diagnosed to March 2008. As a result he was less than 100% fit for most of 2008; which resulted in his relatively poor dip in form during this period. However he was showing signs of recovery by September, when he won the US Open. It is fairly obvious that he is close to being back to his best, which is why he rightly has been made favourite to win Wimbledon ahead of the World's #1 Rafael Nadal whom is still suffering from the impact of tendinitis of the knee which he has suffered on and off since November 2008.
June 8, 200916 yr Murray won't win Wimbledon, he just isn't as good on grass as Nadal and Federer. He's the best player in the world on hard courts now imo though, so he really should win the US Open, especially considering rumours are that Federer won't be playing that (his wife's due to give birth around then)... Agreed, anybody who spouts something to the effect that Andrew Murray should win at Wimbledon is talking out of their backside as he is just not up to the standards of Federer or Nadal on grass; However in rankings points terms he is the best player in the world on hard courts having consistantly beaten Nadal & Federer on that surface; hence if fully fit should be favourite to win his maiden major at the 2009 US Open in September.
June 8, 200916 yr Author Agreed, anybody who spouts something to the effect that Andrew Murray should win at Wimbledon is talking out of their backside as he is just not up to the standards of Federer or Nadal on grass; However in rankings points terms he is the best player in the world on hard courts having consistantly beaten Nadal & Federer on that surface; hence if fully fit should be favourite to win his maiden major at the 2009 US Open in September. Murray is not as good as Federer and Nadal on grass you're right, but I still wouldn't be suprised to see him win if i'm being honest. Federer looks to be at his best again, but like all players they can slip up. But yes, taking everything into consideration at the moment Federer is the very clear favourite...
June 8, 200916 yr I'm going with Andy Roddick FTW for the lad's.. How comes Maria Sharapova isn't on this year?
June 8, 200916 yr Author I'm going with Andy Roddick FTW for the lad's.. How comes Maria Sharapova isn't on this year? She pretty much missed the whole 2008 season, and has subsequently dropped out of the Top100 rankings iirc. I think she has to qualify? Although not 100% sure. Major doubts over her fitness as well.
June 9, 200916 yr Sharapova won't have to qualify... even if her ranking wasn't good enough to get in automatically (and I think it is, just about), the organisers would have given her a wild-card, she's one of the biggest draws in tennis. And there's a good chance she'll do pretty well - she got to the quarters of the French, which is FANTASTIC given clay is by far her worst surface and that it was only her second tournament back after 10 months out with injury.
June 9, 200916 yr I wish the Williams sisters retire from Tennis, its always one of them winning Wimbledon
June 9, 200916 yr Sharapova's ranking was high enough to get in automatically when the cut-off for Wimbledon was made [which I believe was 6 weeks ago]. So she doesn't need a wildcard or to enter qualifying. However, she will not be seeded, which of course means she could draw one of the other big names in the first round ;o
