Dementieva FTW. I think she's currently equally as good as the Williams Sisters and since they're her only competition now she's quite the contender for the women's title.

I've never seen her play so good EVER, even though she has one of the weakest serves she makes up for it amazingly in her agility and powerful forehands hopefuly she can knock both Venus and Serena out in the semi's and then the final. I've been so pleasently suprised with her consistancy this grand slam, she hasn't set a single foot wrong and she certainly has the mental advantage over the Williams sisters as well so I'm so excited for the semi. She better not let me down ;o

Dementieva has a mental advantage over the Williams sisters? At Wimbledon?! I think not.
Dementieva has beaten Serena three of the last four times they've played. That said, Dementieva is notorious for letting the pressure get to her when she gets towards the end of a Slam, and anyway, Serena is probably currently playing her best tennis since her peak years of 2002-03 - her performance against Azarenka was definitely the best display I've seen in women's tennis this year.
Dementieva has an absolutely atrocious record against top-10 players in the SF/F rounds of tournaments - something like 13 wins and 30-something losses. Also, although Serena has lost 3 of the last 4 meetings, remember she did beat Dementieva at the biggest stage earlier this year (Australian Open SF).
The Williams Sisters get easily negative and once they are, they usually lose. Where Dementieva is never negative lately, she thrashed Schiavone and when she makes the 500 double faults she usually does in every match it NEVER gets to her she just moves on, where Venus/Serena get EXTREMELY frustrated. And I think if Dementieva is able to frustrate the Williams Sisters even slightly it'd be extremely likely that she'd walk away with the title. The williams sisters may be all round brilliance but Dementieva's agility, lower body strenghti and power forehand just edges the Williams Sisters's, all she needs is a perfect serve on the day and then she'd win but we'll have to wait and see. Williams Sisters winning Wimbledon yet again = slit wrists
EPIC match. Credit to both ladies on giving us such a thrilling encounter.

Well done to Serena, I'd have loved to have seen Elena going for a shot at the title though!

Nice to see someone getting close to the Williams' though :P

I don't personally like her, but I do feel that no tennis player, man or woman, is mentally tougher than Serena Williams - and today was good proof of that. She really never stops believing in herself no matter what the score. By the sounds of it (I didn't watch the match), that was the only difference between Williams and Dementieva today - the fact Serena is so much more mentally tough.

Dementieva's mental strength just wasn't there at the end of the second set, which is what lost her the match. I was honestly so suprised at how she lost herself every now and then i.e her constant umpire challenging and looking at the box - something she usually never does

But it was the best women's semi final I've EVER seen, so close and to think Dementieva had how many match points but Serena bounced back when she had to and won. Whenever Dementieva was on course to the win, 3-1 up in the final set, match points etc she just cracks. I was SO frustrated with her, she deserved to win so much! Ugh :snif:

will Venus ever miss the Wimbledon final? :heehee:

I've always preferred Venus over Serena as a person (from what I've seen of them) so Venus for the win :P

It's pretty frustrating, Dementieva in the final would shake things up a bit, add some excitement. Four semi final exits in five grand slams :o Impressive but annoying at the same time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! :snif: :snif: :snif:

AH, Gutted Murray lost :/

Honestly thought he had a chance in the last second but :(

Just couldn't deal with those strong serves from Roddick.

The turning point in the match was definitely the 1st tie-break. Murray should have won that, but he threw it away. Shame really, but he's improving all the time as a player. Is only a matter of time before he wins a Grand Slam.

So I suppose Newspapers tomorrow will refer to him as a Scot and not a Brit!

I'm glad that, as much as I would have liked Murray to win ... I do like Andy Roddick ... I'd love him to go all the way ... but I think Roger has it in the bag again!

That was just awesome from Roddick. Murray really needs to improve that weak second serve, it was really exposed today. Apart from that, I still absolutely believe Murray is a Slam champion-in-waiting. I'm still picking him for the US Open.

You're absolutely right! Despite this 'blip' - I too, think he has the capability to win a few slams.

I totally agree. Murray's game is made for that major.

Of course, we are probably copying the opinions of the Tennis experts like John McEnroe - who predicted at the start of the season that if all the top players stayed fit and did not loose form, etc, then Murray would be his pick for the US Open and get knocked out in the Semi's at Wimbledon.

Federer to win in straight sets on Sunday, as Roddick played his "Final" today, and I can't see him raising the level of his performance on Sunday like he did today to beat Murray (rather than Murray lose the Semi Final).

I honestly feel Murray has since the beginning of his career ALWAYS planned to win this year's US Open as his first Slam. He's said numerous times through his career that he expected to win first in the US, and I also remember he said in an interview in late 2007 that he expected 2009 to be the earliest that he'd win a Slam. Obviously, I'm not saying he deliberately lost today, but I do feel that on some level he knew he wou;dn't win this tournament.

Roddick definitely played better than his best and Murray played below his best.
