THE BEGINNING OF THE E.N.D.

Black Eyes Peas #1,

Dave Matthews Band and Eminem Duke It Out for #2

June 10, 2009

Boom. Boom. Pow. The sound you heard is the Black Eyed Peas landing at #1 on next week’s HITS Album sales chart with a total anywhere between 190-215k for their new album, The E.N.D.

Considering how many singles the band has sold, that total has got to be considered a disappointment to record retailers out there who still have their shirts, with most of ‘em presumably gathered in the sunny climes of San Diego for this week’s NARM convention.

But look on the bright side. Based on those same one-day sales reports, this week’s chart-topper RCA’s Dave Matthews Band and Interscope’s dope rapper Eminem will have an old-fashioned street battle for #2, with both in the 115-125k range, so at least there will be three six-figures albums astride next week’s Top 50.

Next highest debut will be Atlantic’s Pleasure P at 35-40k, Sony Music Latin’s Aventura (25-30k), Downtown’s Mos Def (25-30k) and Stax/Concord Music Group’s Teena Marie (15-20k).

the next Coldplay album sold 727K in his first week and now the BEP sold only 200K... oh god, they really flop in the UK too with 30K...

in the time albums doesn't sell much it seems only Coldplay keep selling album after album after album... :) so GLAD!

Black Eyed Peas Poised For No 1 On Billboard 200

June 11, 2009 06:30 PM ET

The Black Eyed Peas are aiming to go "Boom" with its first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week as its new set, "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)," is poised to open in the top slot. Industry sources suggest that the will.i.am/Interscope set may sell upwards of 200,000-225,000 in its first week.

The quartet's last album, 2005's "Monkey Business," started at No. 2 with 291,000 and has gone on to sell 4.2 million copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"The E.N.D." was preceded by its first single, "Boom Boom Pow," which is currently in its 10th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has blown through 2.6 million downloads. That makes its the third biggest selling song of the year, behind Flo Rida's "Right Round" (3.4 million) and Lady GaGa's "Poker Face" (3.1 million).

Me too, and wanted to start a poll to ask if it sells at least 1m this week. It's not a flop but a huge dissapointment... :o

YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 CHART PREVIEW: Second-day sales held up better than expected for Black Eyed Peas, maybe at the expense of Eminem, who falls hard midweek. Dave Matthews Band also is trending a little stronger than it appeared earlier and is now a solid lock at #2. Chickenfoot will increase in its second week, largely thanks to Target, which put it on sale this week rather than on its official Friday street date. Here's how it all unfolds heading into the weekend:

* Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 220-230k

Dave Matthews Band (RCA/RMG) 120-130k

Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 80-90k

Chickenfoot (Redline) 70-75k

Lady GaGa (Interscope) 45-50k

Hannah Montana: The Movie (Walt Disney) 40-45k

Green Day (Reprise) 40-45k

* Pleasure P (Atlantic) 35-40k

* Mos Def (Downtown) 35-40k

Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 30-35k

Kings of Leon (RCA/RMG) 30-35k

Kenny Chesney (BNA/RCA Nashville) 30-35k

* Denotes debut
