Posted June 12, 200916 yr It feels to me that there isn't a lot of women that I can look up to in pop music for their minds or musical talent. To me it looks as though women never stopped being sexual objects for men's desire. Maybe I'm being over negative, but I think I have some foundation to my argument. With the popularity of the p*ssy cats, Britney spears, nearly all of R&B, hip hop, and rap women are subjected to extreme degrees of sexuality and I find it disgusting. What is even worse is that our society supports this structure. Magazines continually portray beautiful women as have a large ass and big breasts, or the average barbie, not to mention the tabloids who describe a more natural frame as inappropriate and ugly. I want women to step up who are talented, modest, and have a figure that isn't 100 lbs and shrinking. If any on you agree please tell me why you agree. If any of you disagree let me know why you disagree.
June 12, 200916 yr I think the likes of Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks who are amazingly talented and gorgeous yet not size zero are much better role models :) These other women you speak off know that sex sells and they use that. Cant be blamed on men for making them objects imo.

I agree, I think that slutty pop stars dressing in very revealing clothing is the big cause of many social problems today such as in particular the massive rise in teenage pregnancies as the likes of Britney/PCD and so on has lead to the further sexualisation of young and pre teen girls so more are sleeping around and wearing inappropriate clothing and shagging earlier and therefore getting pregnant more easily not to mention the growing trend that has been reported of young girls posting very revealing pics of themselves on social networking sites, I doubt somehow that these girls are fans of Metallica and Slayer and Nightwish almost certainly they will be into artists like Britney and PCD and are totally sexualised by their idols thus their lack of self respect and the social problems connected with it I am a bit tipsy tonight so am not coherent as I normally would be but hope you get my drift ;)

That is one of the things I like about Leona, she has a curvy figure and has no desire to look like an emaciated famine victim like many singers do, she is also very lady like with the way she dresses and conducts herself with dignity which are things that I admire about her She will never need to dress like a prostitute or sleazy club lapdancer to sell records, there should be more Leona's about and less Britney's

June 12, 200916 yr It's really sad that the press jump on any female when they put on or lose weight. Poor Kelly Clarkson has been the victim of some terrible comments and a similar thing is starting now with Leona. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...e-jumpsuit.html "Dumpy figure" whatever. She looks absolutely fine even if the outfit is a little unflattering. It's papers like that which are the problem and setting a bad example, not the people themselves.

Exactly, it is scum like the Daily Nazi that causes insecurity in girls who have a perfectly healthy figure and cause them to end up depressed or anorexic or bulimic and so on because newspaper editors think everyone should be size 0, the media are 99% the cause in why young girls who have absolutely no reason to end up starving themselves, you get girls who are size 8 thinking they are obese due to these scum

Girls of all sizes ages heights backgrounds whatever, can relate to them. http://www.damnimcute.com/need-help/jordin...-american-idol/
June 15, 200916 yr I suppose in the mainstream, a good figure and average vocals will get you a long way. they're just a recyclable product. However like mentioned, there are musicians that go against this;; Shakira, Utada, Bjork, to name but three
June 15, 200916 yr I'm not exactly the target audience for female pop singers as I am a straight 17 year old male  . But I prefer the female singers that are not "slutty" as it were. I have Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" album and Katy Perry's album. And as for that fact that people say that singers like Christina, Lady GaGa and Britney are more sexy. I think Katy & Kelly are two of the sexiest females in music :naughty: . But that's a bit off the topic  Edited June 15, 200916 yr by tom03
