With lead singer Amy Lee leaving Evanescence to pursue a new path, fans wondered what the rest of the band would do.

 

Now, we know. They've fallen, or rather, changed their name to Fallen and have acquired a brand new leading lady: American Idol finalist Carly Smithson.

 

The Irish lass was a favorite among her Idol season and now joins the once adored rock group to create a new, yet familiar sound. Her band includes Evanescence guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody, drummer Rocky Gray, guitarist John Lecompt and bassist Marty O'Brian, the only other musician not in the original band.

 

We won't get to hear any of the goods until Monday, when they release a free download of their first song on their website. We can't imagine anyone else being able to keep up with the strength and power of Amy Lee's vocals, but we'd liked to be pleasantly surprised.

Carly Smithson. Irish? Never heard of her. :lol: I hope she can be as good as Amy but not the same as her, if that makes sense. Hopefully she'll make them sound different but still have the power Amy had.

 

I really hope Amy's solo career does well because she's seriously talented and I can't wait to hear both the "new" Evanescence Fallen stuff and Amy's.

I'm happy that it's not in the same name, because it will not the be the same if that was still in the name of Evanescence. (if that makes sense)

I don't know though if the band can keep their success as last time. ;)

Although i like Carly's voice, I think Amy is irreplaceable. I worship Amy Lee seriously. This new group = no success.

APPARENTLY "The Fallen" is Carly Smithson and the original Evanescence band (Ben Moody etc.), and then Evanescence is still Amy, Terry and Tim.

To be honest, I'm seriously not surprised that Ev are no more, in fact, the rate at which members kept coming and going, it was hardly as if they were all that cohesive a band anyway by the time you got past the second album..... The ex-Ev members calling the band "Fallen" though is a bit amusing, considering that "Fallen" was the title of Ev's first album......

I'm a bit sick of reading all the comments around the internet .. 'you'll never replace Amy Lee, what a bitch trying to copy her'. Whatever, sure, Amy was great, but from what I've seen in their actual LIVE showings, Carly $h!ts on Amy from a great height and I'd like to see her be given a chance at least. The first single is fantastic. Apparently they have said they won't be releasing albums though, just a few tracks every eight weeks or something.

Agree.... I mean, I saw Evanescence play live in '03... Frankly, I never thought that much of Amy's live vocals.... When you compare her live to the likes of Tarja, Sharon Den Adel or Cristina Scabbia, she's somewhat lacking in range and power....

Amy Lee is awful when she performs on a stage or somewhere where she has to run around and gets out of breath.

 

BUT she is amazing when she sits on the piano and does acoustic versions of the songs.

It's alright, but very derivitive and standard of that particular genre.... There's nothing that really sets it apart from bands like Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes or Theatre of Tragedy tbh......

 

I like the reference to Evanescence's 1st album. Other than that, meh.
