One of the two primary reasons I pushed for a post count/join date limit on joining the contest was because the contest is really getting too large for its own good...I really wouldn't want to have to go to three semis as it severely intensifies the chances of something ending up in an unfavourable semi. I'd say the absolute maximum number of entrants we could have would be 55 with 3 autoqualifiers and 13 qualifiers from semis of 26...I'm very very reluctant to allow three semis unless we come up with an effective way in which people could vote in multiple semis.

the funny thing is, 6-9 months ago 4Ever would have been an amazing BJSC entry but now that this will be the 5th appearance for The Veronicas, and their next UK single, it seems to have a lost a bit of it's potential charm as an entry

 

the song is still one of my favourite songs of all time though, I just still think that Secret, Everything I'm Not and When It All Falls Apart are massive missed opportunities

I've just realised by the way...having three semi-finals would solve nothing. It gives us another few potential entrants at the most. Think about it - we'd have to have 9 qualifiers from semis of 18 each at the most, with autoqualifiers going on top, which would only allow us 55 to 57 contestants and still leave us with finals of 28-30! I don't think it's worth the effort of trying to come up with a rule-change...

who picks the number of songs in a final (is it the mods again or is the host allowed to) because I'm really keen to drop it back to 27 this month, it just seems to be creeping bigger and bigger, before you know it we'll have a 35 song final

 

of course, if we had two semis of 27 (assuming hypothetically that 55 countries confirmed this month), then only 13/27 going through from each would see more people going out at the semis than staying in...at least the final wouldn't be so diluted though...

Why? :huh: I've just shown that mathematically it doesn't solve a thing, and the chances of potential winners being drawn into unfavourable semi-finals is just too great (given that winners typically only receive votes from half of the finalists)...and given we have enough trouble getting people to vote in one semi, I don't see many feasible ways of getting people to vote in multiple semis to avoid this problem. It would cause far more trouble than it's worth...
