Posted June 23, 200916 yr http://blog.jacarandafm.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/slipknot-02.jpg Slipknot is an American nu-metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995. Slipknot consists of nine members, the current band members are Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor. Each member of the band wears a unique mask. Slipknot formed in 1995 and underwent several line-up changes following the independent release of their first demo Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in 1996. That album featured original lead vocalist, Anders Colsefini. Their self-titled, major label debut, Slipknot, was released in 1999, featuring permanent new lead vocalist, Corey Taylor, and was followed by Iowa in 2001 and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004. On August 25, 2008, the band returned to release their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts. The band has released three DVDs, including Disasterpieces, which was certified quadruple-platinum in the United States. must hear tracks... Iowa http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/Slipknot_Iowa.jpg Iowa is the second album by American alternative metal band Slipknot. Released by Roadrunner Records on August 28, 2001, it was produced by Ross Robinson and Slipknot. The title derives from the band's home state, Iowa, which members have stated is one of their biggest sources of inspiration. With much anticipation for the band's second album following on the success of their 1999 self-titled debut, Slipknot, pressures on the band were high. Their relationships with each other suffered and was later described as the darkest time of their career. It was also the first time that guitarist Jim Root had been significantly involved in a Slipknot album due to his joining very late in recording of Slipknot (he only appeared on two songs on that album). Despite troubles within the band and with this album's development, Slipknot promoted it for almost a year. Iowa premiered in the top ten album sales charts in nine countries. Generally positively received, it includes some of their notable songs, such as "Left Behind", and an edited remix of "My Plague", each of which was nominated for a Grammy Award, in 2002 and 2003 respectively. Critic John Mulvey proclaimed the album, as the "absolute triumph of nu metal". While more technical than their debut album, Iowa is considered to be the band's heaviest. It has been certified platinum in Canada and the United States. tracklisting (key tracks bolded): 1. "(515)" – 1:00 2. "People = $h!t" – 3:35 3. "Disasterpiece" – 5:08 4. "My Plague" – 3:40 5. June 23, 200916 yr One of the best mainstream metal bands ever. Heard all 4 studio albums, not keen on 'Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses' though, bit too friendly or something (). IMO, 'Iowa' is the most enjoyable album, but their self-titled album is their best considering the drumming, riffs and production. :D 'All Hope Is Gone' goes at the middle. :D Funny bit though: At live, few of members do not use their instruments on few songs. Edited June 23, 200916 yr by FunMaker11
June 23, 200916 yr I think they ditched the nu-metal tag with Volume 3, to be honest. I'd say they're now a strange hybrid of heavy-metal, thrash and death-metal! Some cracker tunes, but I do think they're overrated. Still, it was great to see a truly heavy record (All Hope Is Gone) top the Billboard 200 - goes to show that metal still has an important role to play in contemporary music.
June 24, 200916 yr Slipknot are a band that I've gotten to like more and more with each album they released.... I started off seriously hating them and believing that they were just some Faddy Nu Metallers with a ridiculous image.... But, they've proven their musical worth over the years, particularly with the past two albums - Subliminal Verses and All Hope is Gone, which are seriously good Metal albums..... I think it all made sense to me when I saw them play live with Slayer four or five years back..... I dont even mind the image so much anymore.... Masks and boilersuits are hardly any worse the Black Metal Corpse Paint and studded leather...... And, frankly, the latter seems far more campy and silly than the former...... It makes my laugh that BM fans dont seem to get the irony of the inherent campness of Black Metal.....
June 26, 200916 yr Awesome, awesome band. And a rare case of a "nu metal" band actually getting better with every album (IMO) contrary to the likes of Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach etc. And Corey Taylor is one of the best male voices in rock today, IMO. Some favourites: Before I Forget: uPEWkZ54Fx4 Snuff: 3dTo48hSLsw A good example for their evolution over time, IMO. Who would have expected such a song by them after the first two albums? :D Duality (live @ Rock am Ring 2009): uD31M1UMbns Vermillion (live @ Rock am Ring 2009): 6O3oYRIC13E They were so great at RaR. The best live performance I have ever seen by them, tbh (on TV only unfortunately). And Vermillion was just epic. My favourite song by them, too.
