I'm surprised to see that there appears to be no topic for this. :o Just seen the new version in the cinema and OMG I really enjoyed it. Far better than the 1972 original which I have on DVD. That's tame, even in the uncut version. The remake is very violent but very enjoyable too. You'll never look at a microwave in the same way again! Anyone else seen it?

I really enjoyed it too, it was good fun and suspenseful. My only problem with it was

the rape scene was a bit too much for me, disgusting

. Other than that it's a really good horror film ... perhaps one of the best I've seen this year! ^_^

Yeah I agree with you about that scene. Two girls walked out during that and came back a few minutes later! Have you seen the 1972 original Jack? Crap compared to this new one but for the time I suppose it was shocking.

It was pretty okay up until the absolutely LAUGHABLE climax..... Sorry, but I just pished myself laughing at the final 10mins or so

(death by microwave oven indeed    ),

which was surely NOT the intent; completely ruining what had actually been a pretty gritty, horrific and knuckle-whitening thriller up until that point, the rape scene was just horrible, and you actually almost felt the poor girl's terror and pain (which you really should in scenes like this, rape is NOT a nice thing and should not be be dealt with in some ridiculous, fluffy or dumbed-down manner in a film, IMO...), and immediately put me in mind of the absolutely horrific rape scene in the French film "Irreversible", which truly is a gruelling and unpleasant thing to watch..... There were actually times when it was almost as good as Scorcese's remake of "Cape Fear", with Garrett Dillahunt making an incredibly effective, and scary villian out of Krug, almost going into 'Max Cady' depths of evil and depravity at times.... His acting was superb for the most part, really standing out, but he was badly let down by a final act which was absolutely ludicrous.....

So, from me, it gets an 8/10 for the first two thirds, and a 4/10 for the laughable and needlessly drawn-out final act......

It's simply NOT as good as Wes Craven's original, because that was a lot more consistent and didn't totally go off the rails at the end, the bad guys in the original actually felt a bit of self-disgust and shame about what they'd done to the girls in the original film; there's simply no such subtlety or ambiguities in the remake, which I feel lets the remake down a bit, it's too obvious, the villians are simply too obviously villainous and evil, even though it's well acted, the acting just about manages to cover the discrepancies in the script, particularly Dillahunt's efforts.... Chris, it's only "tame" by today's standards, you're simply not thinking about the 1972 film within the context of the time at which it was made, which, I feel, you really have to take into account....

it was good and enjopying though..i like the scenarios..:D

What, even the rape....?

Dude, seriously.....? Actually think about what you're saying here, please......

One of the most $h!tty horror movies ive ever seen.

You're right Scott. For 1972 it must have been shocking but for me watching the original in 2009 for the first time, then the remake next day, I know which I thought was tame and which I preferred. I didn't think the rape scene was THAT BAD but as I say, two teenage girls walked out and were very upset at that scene. They came back in 5 minutes later. Had read about people walking out during that scene but was surprised to see it with my own eyes!
