Right, I'm sure a lot of you must have noticed that we've had a sudden influx of newbies to the contest, in the lead up to this contest especially, however, this poses a risk in that we could end up passing the absolute maximum number of contestants that we could have to feasibly continue with two semis (i.e. 55 entrants, with 3 autoqualifiers and 52 in the semi-finals, with 13 qualifiers from each semi of 26 - which is pushing it as it is with just a 50% qualification rate! :P). So, what proposals do people have? Several ideas I can think of (and would like thoughts on):

- Place a restriction on countries joining - for example, they must have been a member of BuzzJack for three months, or they must have at least 500 posts, or something along these lines

- Have a first-come first-served registration period for the next contest running in the same thread as the reservations etc. (basically, reserving registers you for the contest) until we reach the 55 limit, with any who missed out being guaranteed participation in the following contest and getting first-option on entry to the next contest

- Have a waiting list for countries to join as over at the NSC, whereby any new countries fill the places of regular countries if they do not participate in an edition of the BJSC

Three semi-finals unfortunately would not work in a mathematically fair manner - to have finals at maximum point (i.e. 28 to 30 finalists), we would have to have 9 qualifiers from three semis + however many autoqualifiers. I don't see having any more than 18 in each semi going down too well, and three semis would logistically be too difficult to manage, and would present an absolute nightmare in terms of potential winning songs being drawn into unfavourable semi-finals etc...sadly, I don't think three semis would solve the problem at all and if anything only create more problems.

So, ideas? Discussions?

I'll copy my idea from the other thread...

One idea would be to have a maximum amount of countries allowed. Say it was placed at 51 entries per contest. This gives the hosts an automatic entry and two semis of 25 songs. Countries that did not participate in the previous contest get priority. If there are more than the limit of countries that want to take part the ones that finished lowest in the previous semi's would have to sit out (but could still vote). They're then guarenteed a place in the next contest, this would then avoid anyone missing out more than twice in a row. However it might encourage more people to play safe/uninspired.

I have to say though that any more than 30 countries in the final and/or 3 semi's and it's highly unlikely I'd participate. It'd be far too big and watered down.

actually I quite like this one but what if the member posts 1000 per week :o...not a solution IMO

hmmmm I wouldn't like a contest without Mdice/Kopecka/Rontvia etc etc.

THE BEST IDEA...and it can work very well.

I say 2nd one. The 1st one is a great idea, but it isn't going to stop many people signing up. The third one, the waiting list, I just really dislike the option. So, the second one would be the best solution IMO.

I think you misunderstand - that would only happen if somehow we weren't amongst the first 55 to sign up :P Or perhaps you could have a first-option availability to the most successful/longest running countries in that case? First-option being that a place is offered to them and they can respond at any point during the registration period - all others are first come, first served, and places would only be confirmed once a response had been taken - although they would be able to enter if someone who accepted (and this option will exist with potential auto-qualifiers (i.e. 1st-3rd) BTW) withdrew their registration. How would we extend this to the longest running/most successful though - what would be the boundary for entry?

I fully understand, but would that drive crazy the new countries :kink:

I'd say neither that involves countries being forced to not participate.

Like Rich suggested - make pots, i mean we all know the music likes of almost every member on here. It could work imo.

They'll still have the chance to enter, in the first-come first-served option - this would only be about 10-20 countries at the most, so there would still be 30 places up for grabs, and we're currently only just projected to break 55 - and those that miss out get guaranteed entry to the next contest ;)

And btw, would me participating from IV, count as this longest-runner of the contest? :kink:

How would that at all solve the problem of having too many countries to fit in fairly?

No, but amongst the longest runners...

We'd be having 3 semis.

No, but amongst the longest runners...

I hope this won't be enforced. :(

We'd be having 3 semis.

I just said at the top that three semis wouldn't work...and if anything, that would increase complaints. Countries don't send the same kinds of entries all of the time, and I don't think 'friendly voting' particularly exists in the contest, so it's a null point regarding the BJSC...

It's projected very well, but as always not everyone will agree...and there is always a possibility to join for example...Liam type, and lead us to unlimited debates in each contest for not having an equally rights.

No, but amongst the longest runners...

I entred in IX, I'm one amongst the longest runners?

How about relegation? If you DNQd your country and song would have to be put to vote against the other countries who DNQd (as well as newcomers)?

FOR EXAMPLE (using the last contest)

Semi Final 1 DNQers

14 | New Rivermaya | 48 [One 10, Two 8s]

15 | Ashton | 48 [One 10, One 8]

16 | Utopia | 47 [One 12, Three 10s]

17 | Xyland | 47 [One 10, One 8]

18 | Palmyra | 45

19 | BaNG | 42

20 | Tapatilandia | 33

21 | Land Of Jack | 27

22 | Simondly | 25

23 | Camdonia | 18

Semi Final 2 DNQers

14 | US Of Russiatron | 54 [Less 12s]

15 | Espen | 44

16 | Lotopialand | 40

17 | Kylienips | 38

18 | FNT Nickodonia | 37

19 | Greenfroze | 28

20 | Sangria | 21 [More Votes]

21 | Inner Massivia | 21 [Less Votes]

22 | Fervorosia | 20

23 | FSR Farahtyn | 15

And then each DNQ country (if they choose to participate) will pick an entry and would be put to vote (secretly so we don't see who has the biggest support). If there are 10 DNQs from each semi + (lets say) 5 newcomers , we could pick 3 DNQs and 2 newcomers. When they are picked, they will be placed in a semi and then the contest begins...?

Did I make any sense? APOLOGIES if not.
