Last week we got 7 in the 10, 14 in the 20, and 23 in the Combined top 30 albums. In the singles we got 9 in the 10, 18 in the 20, and 28 in the top 30...Meaning this is the first place, to have a good preview of the new singles chart first...with no expense spared! Just ahead of Tom`s singles preview...Back in 1983, Radio Luxembourg came up with this: (As introduced by Tony Prince in July 1983) 01 01 BABY JANE - ROD STEWART 02 02 FLASHDANCE (WHAT A FEELING) - IRENE CARA 03 16 MOONLIGHT SHADOW - MIKE OLFIELD/MAGGIE REILLY 04 19 IOU - FREEEZ 05 04 EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE - POLICE 06 03 I GUESS THAT`S WHAT THEY CALL THE BLUES - ELTON JOHN 07 10 DEAD GIVEAWAY - SHALAMAR 08 08 WHEN WE WERE YOUNG - BUCK`S FIZZ 09 26 WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT - PAUL YOUNG 10 05 CHINA GIRL - DAVID BOWIE 11 18 TAKE THAT SITUATION - NICK HEYWARD 12 24 ROCK N`ROLL IS KING - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 13 28 COME LIVE WITH ME - HEAVEN 17 14 06 WAITING FOR A TRAIN - FLASH AND THE PAN 15 12 BAD BOYS - WHAM 16 07 WANNA BE STARTIN`SOMETHING - MICHAEL JACKSON 17 22 WAR BABY - TOM ROBINSON 18 21 CONFUSION HITS US EVERYTIME - DENNIS GREAVES/THE TRUTH 19 NE THE TROOPER - IRON MAIDEN 20 14 DREAM TO SLEEP - H20 21 09 LADY LOVE ME ONE MORE TIME - GEORGE BENSON 22 NE FORBIDDEN COLOURS - DAVID SYLVIAN/RYUICHI SAKAMOTO 23 30 IT`S OVER - FUNK MASTERS 24 23 I WON`T HOLD YOU BACK - TOTO 25 11 DARK IS THE NIGHT - SHAKATAK 26 15 NOBODY`S DIARY - YAZOO 27 NE ALL NIGHT LONG - MARY JANE GIRLS 28 27 SHE WORK`S HARD FOR THE MONEY - DONNA SUMMER 29 NE TANTALISE - JIMMY THE HOOVER 30 NE DON`T TRY TO STOP IT - ROMAN HOLIDAY 28 in the 30, for Radio Luxembourg compared to Radio One...208 only missed Malcom McClaren`s "Double Dutch", and Eurythmics "Who`s That Girl". A hot summer in 1983 (when over on Radio One, Andy Peebles presented the top 40). Rod reigned supreme with his biggest hit in years. There was Flashdance, in which Irene Cara did not appear. Maggie Reilly was the uncredited vocalist with Mike Oldfield, as we remember the follow up to Moonlight Shadow was "To France". Freeez gave us the longevity that became the vowel song "IOU". The Police returned, and back with avengence too, was Elton. Shalamar were about to descend into obscurity, a bit of a "Dead Giveaway!" Buck`s Fizz were headind down the same road, as one of my favs by them "When We Were Young" hit the top 10. Paul Young covered a Marvin Gaye B side circa 1969. It was the B side of "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby". David Bowie had a bit of a naughty video to "China Girl". Nick Heyward had his 2nd solo hit. ELO were still going strong. Heaven 17 finally got off the ground in 1983, after a few years battling with flops. Flash And The Pan finally got a big UK hit. The band from Oz, made a stab at the chart in 1978 with "Down Among The Dead Men". Wham went down. Michael Jackson was "Startin`Something". A song that hasn`t over done it, on the spate of re-bursts in this last week. Tom Robinson returned without the band. The Truth, and H20 both had smallish hits. David Sylvian popped out of Japan for a duet. George Benson got his best time, between 1981-83. Everyone stared at the Mary Jane Girls on TOTP! Donna Summer "Worked Hard" for a small top 30 hit. Jimmy The Hoover could not follow up "Tantalise", despite releasing a handful of singles. The nights were drawing in for Shakatak and the days too, come to that. Roman Holiday just scraped the top 20, but that was about it. Just before Tom get`s here, for the Singles this week, let`s have 3 more "Pops To Flop". Three songs, I tip to bomb out. There`s "Messages" by the Filthy Dukes. Music from the Synthpop band who formed in London, back in 2005. 5Is6nqTzSa4 Honor Blackman "The Star Who Fell From Grace". 84 on 22nd August, P*ssy Galore in Bond/Cathy Gale in The Avengers...a no chancer this time. W-1DGOuEWNk What about Richmond Fontaine "You Can Move Back Here". An alternative country band from Oregon, Portland U.S, who formed in 1995. To which, we can`t find a clip! So, moving swiftly on... Take it away, Tom! ;)

A big climb for Pitbull...the spanglish dance track I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho). JLS - Beat Again are sure to top the chart in a couple of weeks, maybe! Still the biggest tip for the top. og07i_Qwwp0
July 4, 200916 yr So it looks like the Jacko mania is fading out. But the memorial service on Tuesday should keep it aound a little longer. After pipping MJ to the post on the official chart yesterday, Cascada looks like getting a second week at number one, which means that The Big Top 40 might have finally got it right. Then again, it seems that show is making an impact... Everyone I work with was saying that Man In The Mirror was number one last week... hmmm  Here is new entry from VV Brown, finally making her commercial breakthrough with the gorgeous summery Shark In The Water. :cheer: wRXhs-_SVwo Here is "Chip Diddy" Chipmunk, bringing some grime and lime to the charts with Diamond Rings :puke2: -IB2ataUX-A And climbing into the top 40 are the Black Eyed Peas with I Gotta Feeling. Maybe that should be I Guetta Feeling, as David is on production duties, making this infinitely superior to Boom Boom Pow IMHO... Ete7o7IHMhA So what's the chart going to look like in coming weeks? Well here are some Picks To Click which should be getting their piece of the action in a few weeks time: The Twang - Barney Rubble (comeback of Sound Of 2007 indie band from Birmingham with a summery dance-rock track using a sample of The Goodmen's Give It Up, presumably so Pitbull doesn't get there first!) Lwmbkb_ZYgE Green Day - 21 Guns (pop-punk veterans in anthemic pop-rock mode - am I the only one who thinks it sounds a bit like Take That? :kink: Well, and Mott The Hoople...) foqxQmQA4SU Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend (he's not alone, he's with Mary Pearce! #1 on Sunday 16th August, maybe!) GeCTLS4chfA Is that it then Dave? :)
July 4, 200916 yr Author Thanks Tom...In honest truth, we can say that "Man In The Mirror" did top the chart for 5 days, last week! So, no one was wrong (really). Although those nuts at Big Top 40, conned us because last week, they did not use any Airplay data. All made up, as ever...and this week surprise, surprise...Independant Radio`s fav artists Take That suddenly leapt up 22 places to #12! Dodgy, or what!
July 6, 200916 yr Author Also, just remembered that the top dvd this week, looks like it will go to Marley And Me.
July 6, 200916 yr Come on Florence! #1 album gogogog! :D Pleased to see Youth And Young Manhood / Aha Shake Heartbreak / Because Of The Times making an impact even though it's just a boxed set of two really old albums and one everyone already owns.
July 6, 200916 yr I don't know why this JLS song is a big deal. I think it's not bad but nothing special either. Rather a little bit bland.
July 6, 200916 yr I find it a bit bland too, but Reality TV + commerical RnB + attactive men (not my type but hey) = SMASH.
July 6, 200916 yr I find it a bit bland too, but Reality TV + commerical RnB + attactive men (not my type but hey) = SMASH. I think it's more Reality TV + Boyband + Generic American pop sound (done well here imo though) + Video with generically 'boyband' dance moves + People who a load of people will find attractive = 15 weeks at #1
July 6, 200916 yr JLS track isn't bad - and a whole lot better than I was expecting. In fact, its actually quite catchy and I'm starting to really like it. :o
July 6, 200916 yr Interesting predictions, however I think Chipmunk will go (at least Top 5), and surely the Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning will challenge for a Top 10 spot. Whilst if the MJJ funeral rehearsal rumours are true I predict Jackson 5 - Who's Loving You to have a major impact on the chart countdown on Sunday as well. J2xc8xZ0tV0
