The 'Green, Green Grass of Home' singer has been living in Los Angeles for 35 years but increasingly misses life in Britain and is planning to return before the end of the year.

He said: "I've had a great time living in Los Angeles but after all these years we think now is the time to move home.

"My wife Linda's been getting homesick lately and we have talked about it for a while. Britain has always been home. I love coming here and miss it more and more when I go back to Los Angeles. It's the people and humour you can't get anywhere else."

The 69-year-old star revealed his decision to move was speeded up by his friend and former Los Angeles neighbour Robbie Williams returning to the UK.

He added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I decided to move before Robbie but he got here before me. I said to him, 'I've been talking about it all this time and you've gone and done it.'

"We'd like somewhere in the country, but I think we'll get a place in London first to ease back into it."

"UNITED FOR NEDA"-- MAMS TAYLOR BRINGS TOGETHER IRAN'S SUPERSTARS TO PROTEST IRANIAN CRACKDOWN

(Los Angeles, CA – July 1, 2009)

Known for collaborating with U.S. stars like Snoop Dogg and T-Pain, Iranian-British recording artist Mams Taylor  turned his focus towards his motherland this week in response to the popular movement for political freedom in Iran. His song "United For Neda" brings together Iran's most elite entertainers, poets, thinkers, actors and singers in one harmonious voice pleading for freedom, featuring three of Iran's most iconic singers Dariush, Satar, Shoreh Aghdashloo, the Oscar - nominated actress from House of Sand and Fog, in addition to other notable rappers and poets.

"United For Neda" was written and produced by Taylor who also performs on the song. Taylor and Iranian actor Shila Vosough have produced a video for the song, recorded entirely on cell phones to pay homage to the protestors in Iran who have been reporting back the dire events taking place in the streets of the country's largest cities. The video was filmed in part during a protest in Los Angeles last weekend, where Taylor spoke.

Neda was a young woman protester who was fatally shot by Iranian shock troops called the Basij on June 21. After seeing the extremely disturbing and graphic video of Neda's death on Facebook, Taylor was moved to respond in the way he knows best-- through music. He's since spoken in front of 20,000 protesters at the Iranian-American rally in Los Angeles. His statement about the situation in Tehran has appeared on AOL's music news page and in the NY Post.

Additional artists featured on the song and video include Vosough, singer Sussan Deyhim, actor and poet Parviz Sayyad, Kamy R, the singer from Black Cats, Iran's most popular singing group, rappers Kamyar & Payam Jaffari and The Kid.

Taylor's album PERSONA NON GRATA, featuring T-Pain, Robbie Williams, Dave Navarro and others drops this fall. "Girl Gotta Girlfriend" with Snoop was just added to MTV Jams. It's on regular rotation on scores of rhythmic radio stations across the U.S., and his online presence in hip-hop's most influential websites has been massive. Listen to "United for Neda" at mamstaylor.com. Find him on Facebook, iTunes, Myspace, Youtube and Twitter.

X Factor Betting Odds Include Robbie Williams To Replace Simon Cowell As Judge

Friday 03 July 2009 at 10:41

X Factor starts again next month and bookies are already betting on who will replace Simon Cowell on the judging panel after creator of the show hinted he may turn his attentions to other business interests.

Robbie Williams Could Take Simon’s Seat

The favourite to land Cowell’s job on the judging panel is Robbie Williams who can be backed at 8/1 with Paddy Power. Williams has repeatedly been linked with a role on the show and since he is a big personality who has been in the music industry most of his life he would seem a good choice so he could be worth a bet at 8/1 with Paddy Power.

Lily Allen Would Be Interesting Choice

We have three joint second favourites in the betting with Paddy Power, Victoria Beckham, Lily Allen and Charlotte Church are all 10/1 at Paddy Power. The latter two are particularly interesting as they are both very opinionated and would not be afraid to let people know what they think. If we were backing one of those at 10/1 with Paddy Power we would go for Lily Allen.

Sharon Osbourne Has Been Touted For Return

Sharon Osbourne has been repeatedly tipped for a return to X Factor, often as a replacement for Dannii Minogue. She is 12/1 with Paddy Power, as is American Idol judge Paula Abdul and also Will Young, who won Pop Idol, a very similar TV talent show.

Susan Boyle Could Be Next Judge

There are loads more interesting names in the frame, Gary Barlow is 14/1 with Paddy Power, Madonna is 20/1 with Paddy Power and Amy Winehouse is 25/1 with Paddy Power. To find out the odds on Kelly Brook, Britney Spears, Kylie or even Susan Boyle, visit the Paddy Power website and click on Novelty Bets.

Susan Boyle's cat would be the better option

It won't be the same without Simon though :nocheer:

Cowell signs big names for The X Factor

Simon Cowell is reportedly in talks with Madonna, after deciding that he wants the Queen of Pop to appear on this year's X Factor. Simon is determined to outdo last year's line-up, which included Mariah Carey and Britney Spears. He is keen to sigh chart sensation Lady GaGa, and is also said to be interested in Rihanna. One man who Cowell also desperately wants is Robbie Williams, with one show insider saying, "This year is going to be bigger than ever. Madonna and Robbie would be sensational. Simon is also hoping Beyonce will return, as she will be in London during the live show stage of the talent show. The X Factor will return on 22 August – are you getting excited yet?

David Platt to play in Sir Bobby charity match

Jul 10 2009 by Alastair Craig, Evening Chronicle

HIS memorable volley set World Cup Italia ’90 alight for England fans.

David Platt was on the bench for all of the group games, but was sent on as an extra-time sub in the second round against Belgium.

He responded by scoring a stunning volley on the turn in the very last minute of extra time – his first goal for his country and the latest goal ever in World Cup history.

Now, the midfield legend is the latest star to sign up to play in the Sir Bobby Robson Trophy game later this month in aid of the Newcastle legend’s cancer charity.

The game is on July 26 at St James’s Park, with the England side coached by the ex-Newcastle United boss.

Platt told the Chronicle: “I don’t play in many games like this, but this was one that I could not shy away from. When I knew it was for Sir Bobby, I signed up straight away.

“I made my name with Sir Bobby at Italia ’90 because for me it gave me a platform to build on.”

And talking about “that” goal against Belgium, the star added: “Even now people come up to me and ask me what it was like to score it. They tell me where they were and what they were doing at the time.

“It was the last minute of extra time and suddenly from being nervous and taking penalties we were in the quarter-final. It was my most important career goal and that was down to Sir Bobby.”

Former Newcastle midfielders Paul Gascoigne and Rob Lee, Steve Hodge, defenders Des Walker and Paul Parker and goalkeeper Peter Shilton are already confirmed.

And Geordie TV personalities Ant and Dec, singer Robbie Williams, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris and former cricketer Alec Stewart are all expected to feature in the squad.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children, available from www.nufc.co.uk or 0844 372 1892.
