I went to see this not too long ago as a last resort pretty much. It had one of the latest showings.

Anyways, I was told the movie wasn't that bad until the end because the twist was stupid. I actually thought the twist was pretty creative in a way that most people wouldn't think of that at all. Overall thought the movie was a bit better than I first thought since I had pretty low expectations to begin with. Loved the "I'm not your f*cking mommy!" bit as the same exact thing is said at the end of The Ring 2! Pretty sure the same producers did both movies so I thought that was kind of cool.

Nic Roeg's magnificent, atmospheric and truly eerie and scary film "Dont Look Now"....

TBH, I thought the worst thing about it was when

the actress playing the little girl (and it was obviously her at this stage) was all kind of "tarted up", overly made-up, wearing a mini-dress, etc, and trying to get into "daddy's" pants

... Oh dear, that was just a bit iffy..... I know you didn't really see much, but it was still kinda..... :puke2:

^ Agreed Grimly.

Just got back from watching this, I really enjoyed it except for a few odd/unrealistic/iffy parts, most notabley the one listed above. I thought the 'secret' was really creative tbh, I most certainly didn't see it coming.

It sat a bit uncomfortably with me, not because it was unrealistic (I hadn't gone into it expecting something believable) but because something so unrealistic should've been a bit more camp or over-the-top stylistically, just to let the audience know that it wasn't trying to be intensely serious. It felt like it was trying to be taken at face value as opposed to as something deliciously silly.

That said, it was very scary in parts and I didn't see Esther's secret coming which is quite unusual for horror flicks like this. The acting all-round was brilliant and that house is now the object of my dreams. 8/10 for being an enjoyable, engaging, gripping romp. Loses the other two points for not quite knowing where to land in terms of tone.

I'm really surprised that people are saying they didn't see the "twist" coming... Frankly, for me, it was all to glaringly obvious from about the 40-odd minute mark.......

Nah, Sam Raimi's gloriously, super-unrealistic, OTT, campy and just plain FUN Horror romp "Drag Me To Hell" absolutely pishes over this film.... Because Raimi is in control and totally aware of what it is he's doing at every turn (because he's a great film-maker..), there is absolutely no uncertainties of tone, it's consistently enjoyable throughout and moves along like a greased weasel.... Whereas this just drags and drags.... For almost two hours.... FAR too long for a film of this type.... 90 minutes would've been right.... The cast do save this film from falling totally on its arse though, it has to be said, but they all give far better performances than the totally perfunctory material deserves.... In that sense, it's very like the "Last House on the Left" remake, which also has far better acting than it deserved....

Well, you know my feelings on 'Drag Me To Hell' :heehee: Overrated. That's not to say it wasn't good, but it wasn't the FILM OF THE YEAR or whatever other crap critics were claiming. Everybody I know who saw it was underwhelmed.

Well, it was deffo "Old Skool Horror Film" of the year mate.. By a long way, Raimi knew what he wanted to do and just did it, whereas the director of this film suffered a very definite lack of focus, lack of experience perhaps.... I had seriously high hopes for "Orphan" tbh... I wanted it to creep me out like a Japanese or Korean film of this type almost certainly WOULD... But, it didn't.. Not even close... Take a gander at "Dark Water" (the Japanese version of course..) sometime and see how this sort of thing really ought to be done... Horror films centred around children and around awful things that happen to children or awful things that children DO, should really be the most eerie, disturbing and emotional of all the sub-genres of horror, "Dont Look Now", "The Orphanage", "Hansel and Gretel" (I'm talking about a rather bizarre, eerie, modern-day Korean take on the old fairy tale here by the way...), "A Tale of Two Sisters", "The Omen", "Sixth Sense", "Ringu", "The Innocents", etc, are all examples of fantastic film-making of this type, "Orphan" doesn't even come close to matching any of them....

Frankly, I'd place "Orphan" in that category of forgettable tripe that includes that godawful Macauly Culkin-starrer "The Good Son" from the mid-90s.... Trash....
