We're delighted to announce that Alesha Dixon has been asked by the BBC to be part of the Strictly Come Dancing Judging panel in the autumn. She will be appearing live on BBC1 for 16 weeks every Saturday night.

TBH I think its pathetic.

Im no fan of Arlene (or infact the whole show) but theres no denying Arlene is a professional who knows her stuff.

It's totally insulting to replace her with someone younger, more attractive who as even the OFFICIAL BBC press office said will "be judging the dancers on their performance rather than their technique".

If I were a professional dancer I'd be insulted to have her judging me. Lets face it anyway she will just say nice things anyway.

I'm an Alesha fan but I'm really disappointed at this.

If she was replacing Tess I'd be thrilled.

BBC trying to do an X Factor with Cheryl and they fail miserably.

Blatant attempt to copy XF but Alesha is even less qualified than Cheryl on XF, especially as SCD seems to take itself more seriously in the judging area (less so as the years have progressed but still more than XF.)

How could any contestant take her critique (which won't be very critical) and score seriously? Isn't Bruno there to talk about the performance aspect?

Awful awful awful decision! This is going to be another Cheryl Cole scenario where despite having no interesting opinions and just calling everything amazing, the public will love it!

Bring back Arlene!

Bring back Arlene!

I doubt this will even be as popular as Cheryl.

At least with Cheryl she had some relevance as being a "singer" yes the term is used lightly, who came from a reality tv show...

This just feels all wrong.

And then shunting Arlene off to The One Show instead of letting her join Claudia is just plain ridiculous!

I hope you right and this does backfire on them tbh.

She's going to the One show. Dear god, id tell them where to stick there one show if i was her

Aww I hope it doesn't backfire. I'm kinda glad for Alesha, though when I first read it in her newsletter I skimmed past the judge bit and assumed she was filling the shoes of Tess this year.

Not sure how I feel about them ditching Arlene for Alesha but I hope it doesn't put Alesha out of favour with the public as I think she's seems like a really nice lady, deserving of success. But, yeah, woud have rather seen her hosting than judging. Not that I watch this anyway.

Yep - trying to copy X-Factor. SCD is a lot more different to XF. Anyone can basically judge on XF. If you have an average joe pop voice then you're through SIMPLE! GODDD EVEN I COULD DO A BETTER JOB!

Anyway back to SCD - it's quite predictable what Alesha will be like. She will praise everyone she sees and give high marks. I can't see her being brutal. Compare Arlene to Alesha - Arlene has choreograph many shows over the past years and is professional dancer and Alesha is an amateur dancer that was a contestant on SCD. Why didn't they replace Arlene with one of the professionals dancers? Even Brucey is a pro dancer!

An awful awful decision. I think the X Factor is going to wipe the floor with SCD this year is this is how it's going to be.
Occured to anyone maybe Arlene WANTS to leave Strictly? She is 66 after all, and Strictly is a tough gig when you add in all the ITT appearances. Maybe she'd prefer one or two nights a week on The One Show instead...

But why replace her with an amateur! If they want to replace Arlene then why not replace her with someone who knows their stuff?!

I'm not disagreeing with that (personally, if I had my way, I'd have Karen Hardy replace Arlene, and Brendan replace Len), I'm disagreeing with people who are suggesting Arlene has been kicked out ... I personally think she's been on the verge of leaving for a while now.
Well she has made out she is shocked by it all so thats what I'm basing it on. Saying she is "disappointed" suggests its not her choice imo.
How can she possibly be shocked  Even I knew at the end of last season she wouldn't be back this year. I thought it had been all-but confirmed months ago that Arlene wouldn't be back...

Lol god knows. :heehee: She cant complain too much I suppose with her new role, its not like shes being chucked off TV for good.

And worst comes to the worst she can bring back Britannia High :kink:

I don't see why the rest of us should suffer

talking about the BBC kicking older women off the air, Moira Stewart needs her own show  She was great on Have I Got News For You :kink:

And as for SCD, we're all just going to have to wait for the ratings to land later this year.

Well Personally I think this the equivalent appointment as adding Cheryl Cole as an X Factor judge.

In expertise terms the decision is an absolute joke, undermining one of the major factors SCD had on X-Factor in so far that their judges were far far more credible than the ITV show.

However, even though I thought Cheryl Cole's main point was to make Dannii Minogue look more insightful, intelligent, knowledgeable and old looking the ratings increased for X-Factor, so I could easily see the more likeable Alesha Dixon achieving the same thing.

If she does then it will surely be just a matter of time before John Barrowman joins the judging panel in 2010.
