Hi, welcome to the Almost Saturday charts, Part 1! Notice anything different? Dave Taylor couldn’t make it this week, so the chart this week is brought to you by B-rye. Don’t worry, it’s the same song and dance, but with slightly different layouts and a different presenter.

As usual, here are your top books, compiled from the best selling paperbacks in the United Kingdom.

[06] 01| John Le Carre – A Most Wanted Man

[04] 02| Jill Mansell – Rumour Has It

[02] 03| Jodi Picoult – My Sister’s Keeper

[01] 04| James Patterson – Sail

[05] 05| Jane Green – Beech House

[**] 06| Dawn French – Dear Fatty

[07] 07| Michael Connelly – Brass Verdict

[**] 08| Danielle Steele – Rogue

[03] 09| Bernard Cornwell – Azincourt

[08] 10| Patricia Cornwell – Scarpetta

All the Cornwells down at the bottom there, how bizarre.

And of course, the top 10 film DVDs, compiled by our friends DTR based on not just sales, but also rentals! You don’t even have to pay.

[**] 01| Young Victoria

[01] 02| Marley & Me

[02] 03| Gran Torino

[03] 04| Bronson

[04] 05| Confessions of a Shop-a-Holic

[05] 06| Che (Parts 1 and 2)

[**] 07| Driven to Kill

[06] 08| He’s Just Not That Into You

[07] 09| Slumdog Millionaire

[08] 10| International

What a boring chart! It’s just the same old top 8 moved down one or two places by newies at 1 and 7. And if for some reason you’re wondering ‘where is Hotel For Dogs?!?’, it is considered a kids’ film, and is not eligible for this chart.

Next up is the TV related DVDs top 5.

[01] 01| Prison Break (Series 4)

[**] 02| Torchwood (Series 3)

[**] 03| Ashes To Ashes (Series 2)

[02] 04| Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead

[03] 05| Red Dwarf: Back To Earth

Wow, they got that Torchwood DVD out pretty quickly! (I think…)

And the top films from the UK box office, compiled as usual by Screen International. Big surprise at the top here, no I’m just kidding.

[**] 01| Brüno

[01] 02| Ice Age 3: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs

[03] 03| Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

[04] 04| The Hangover

[02] 05| Public Enemies

[06] 05| My Sister’s Keeper

[06] 07| Year One

[08] 08| Night At The Museum 2

[07] 09| Kambakkht Ishq

[**] 10| Shortkut

I’m not the biggest film fan ever, so if anyone would explain to me what the hell a ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is I would be grateful. New Sacha Baron Cohen film up at the top there, remind me to watch it, Borat was brilliant.

Moving on very swiftly, here are the UK’s top videogames, based on sales from all platforms.

[01] 01| Guitar Hero 3

[02] 02| The Sims 3

[03] 03| EA Sports Active

[04] 04| Tom Clancy’s Endwar

[05] 05| UFC 2009 Undisputed

[06] 06| Pokémon Platinum Edition

[**] 07| Call Of Duty – Modern Warfare

[07] 08| FIFA ‘09

[08] 09| Guitar Hero Wold Tour

[10] 10| My Fitness Coach

I have no idea what GH3 is doing selling more than World Tour, but I guess the public are to blame. In an unchanged top 6, three-quels rule the top of the charts.

Here are the top 30 TV programmes. Compiled by ol’ BARB, an of course only the top editions of programmes are noted, business as usual on the Almost Saturday charts.

[05] 01| Wimbledon 2009 [8.54m]

[01] 02| Coronation Street [8.06m]

[02] 03| EastEnders [7.82m]

[03] 04| Top Gear [6.38m]

[12] 05| Ten O’clock News [5.91m]

[03] 06| Emmerdale [5.85m]

[04] 07| Casualty [5.84m]

[06] 08| BBC News Sunday [5.76m]

[09] 09| Holby City [5.46m]

[21] 10| Countryfile [5.25m]

[10] 11| Kingdom [4.94m]

[11] 12| The Bill [4.65m]

[15] 13| Royal [4.62m]

[13] 14| Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow [4.60m]

[18] 15| Celebrity Masterchef [4.52m]

[31] 20| CSI Miami [4.22m]

[22] 21| Secret Caribbean [4.03m]

[16] 22| BBC News Saturday [4.02m]

[RE] 23| Doc Martin [3.93m]

[23] 24| Hotel Babylon [3.79m]

[**] 29| Ladette To Lady [3.33m]

[20] 30| Mr. & Mrs. [3.26m]

And onto the interesting stuff! Here’s your top 30 (combined) albums based as always on sales Thursday to Wednesday with figures adjusted for the new entries.

[01] 01| Michael Jackson – The Essential

[02] 02| Florence + The Machine – Lungs

[14] 03| Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 – The Motown Years

[16] 04| Paolo Nutini – Sunny Side Up

[06] 05| Michael Jackson – Thriller

[05] 06| La Roux – La Roux

[03] 07| Michael Jackson – Off The Wall

[08] 08| Cascada – Evacuate The Dancefloor

[**] 09| Various – Massive R&B Classics

[17] 10| Various – Gatecrasher Trance Anthems

[10] 11| Lady GaGa – The Fame

[11] 12| Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

[09] 13| Various – Clubland 13

[19] 18| Kings of Leon – Only By The Night

[13] 19| Various – R&B in the Mix

[**] 20| VV Brown – Travelling Like The Light

[28] 21| Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You

[24] 22| Noisettes – Wild Young Hearts

[15] 23| Michael Jackson – King Of Pop

[RE] 24| The Killers – Day & Age

[23] 25| Various – Chilled II 91-09

[31] 26| Kings of Leon – Box Set [Youth And Young Manhood / Aha Shake Heartbreak / Because Of The Times]

[34] 27| Jim Reeves – The Very Best Of

[20] 28| Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band – Greatest Hits

[07] 29| Michael Jackson – Thriller 25

[27] 30| Daniel Merriweather – Love & War

Then just outside that at 31, let’s give it up for The Prodigy with Invaders Must Die. The Essential Michael Jackson finishes off with about 40,000 more sales than closest competitor Lungs by Florence + The Machine.

Here’s where I give up with reformatting – the flashback is boring, so these are the actual words of Dave Taylor! (Perfect grammar not guaranteed)

Motorhead`s biggest selling album deposed by Cliff! Love Songs was one of Cliff`s biggest sellers, which prevented Kim Wilde`s 2nd album topping the chart. She peaked at #2. The full album of Starsound...bit too much! Early days for Duran Duran, and indeed Toyah. Jim Steinman (many a song written for Meat Loaf) reaching the peak. Adam And The Ants kept "the wild frontier" up and down all year, and 12 weeks at #1, before Prince Charming came along in November. Siouxie And The Banshees had obviously been watching those old Johnny Weissmuller/Lex Barker films, as a JuJu was mentioned as part of the tribe in every Tarzan film going! Randy Crawford had her "Secret Combination". Never big in the States for Randy, but in Britain 3 top 3 hits, including a 1980 MRIB #1. UB40 were slipping, but the new single "One In Ten" wasn`t far away...so back up the album chart was a certainty. Michael Jackson, had the Best Of, which included the current re-issued album track "One Day In Your Life". Crass (heading from Epping) were a punk outfit, formed in 1977. They even had their own record label, which also released records for other people, such as Honey Bane in 1980. "Penis Envy" was their third album...a rather feminist album. Even in 1982, they caused a stir, when they did some fake recordings of apparently over heard conversations, with Thatcher & Regan during the Falklands War. The White House thought the tapes, were from the Soviet Union. Stevie Wonder road back up the chart as his new single crashed into the Singles chart.

Here’s the big finish, starting as always with the meaningless top 20 physical singles.

[**] 01| JLS – Beat Again

[02] 02| Cascada – Evacuate The Dancefloor

[01] 03| Lady GaGa – Paparazzi

[05] 04| Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo – Knock You Down

[03] 05| Jordin Sparks – Battlefield

[04] 06| Agnes – Release Me

[06] 07| La Roux – Bulletproof

[08] 08| Chipmunk featuring Emeli Sandé – Diamond Rings

[**] 09| Green Day – 21 Guns

[09] 10| David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over

[RE] 11| The Stone Roses – Made Of Stone

[10] 12| The Saturdays – Work

[11] 13| Jamie T – Sticks ‘N’ Stones [EP]

[12] 14| The Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow

[13] 15| Freemasons featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)

[15] 16| Pixie Lott – Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)

[**] 17| Melanie Fiona – Give It To Me Right

[14] 18| Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em featuring Sammie – Kiss Me Thru The Phone

[16] 19| Take That – Said It All

[17] 20| Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden – Bonkers

Also in the physical top 40 is a whole bunch more new entries. Reverend & The Makers, Master Shortie, Maxïmo Park, Filthy Dukes (featuring Tommy Sparks), Julien Jadre, Honor Blackman, 3OH!3 and Shovell are all in there (god knows who those last four minus 3OH!3 are though).

And here’s another top 20, but a bit more relevant – it’s the iTunes top 20 overall from Sunday to Friday!

[**] 01| JLS – Beat Again

[01] 02| Cascada – Evacuate The Dancefloor

[07] 03| The Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

[02] 04| La Roux – Bulletproof

[04] 05| Lady GaGa – Paparazzi

[**] 06| Chicane – Poppiholla

[11] 07| Pitbull – I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)

[05] 08| David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over

[06] 09| Chipmunk featuring Emeli Sandé – Diamond Rings

[03] 10| Michael Jackson – Man In The Mirror

[**] 11| Beyoncé – Sweet Dreams

[08] 12| The Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow

[09] 13| Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo – Knock You Down

[12] 14| Jordin Sparks – Battlefield

[13] 15| Agnes – Release Me

[15] 16| The Veronicas – Untouched

[18] 17| Daniel Merriweather – Red

[20] 18| The Pussycat Dolls – Hush Hush; Hush Hush

[21] 19| Florence + The Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)

[**] 20| 3OH!3 – Don’t Trust Me

So that’s sort of how the Big Top 40 should be, but it won’t, because the Big Top 40 is $h!t.

Here is your combined singles chart, from 11-50, but not upside down because that’s confusing. :P (top 10 after it)

And the MASSIVE TOP TEN, in reverse order!

[14] 10| Pitbull – I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) =10

[01] 02| Cascada – Evacuate The Dancefloor 2) =2

[**] 01| JLS – Beat Again 1) =1

) Position without downloads alone.

= Position on Chart Show TV.

that means I got the right ten songs in my Ben’s prediction game, but wrong order, like last week :kink:

Do note JLS – Umbrella has been removed to ensure accuracy (stupid OCC rules!) If we were to include it, it would be #23 behind Pixie Lott. Beat Again finishes a massive 50,000 ahead of Evacuate, in total selling 93,000. It will almost certainly go over 100,000 with Saturday’s sales.

Bubbling under, the top 60 consists of MJ (YANA), Ciara ft. Missy Elliott, Noisettes (DUTR), Paolo Nutini, Jackson 5 (WLY), MJ (TWYMMF), Kings of Leon (US), Nickelback, Flo Rida ft. Wynter and Eminem (Beautiful). Also in the top 70 is Sean Kingston, Taylor Swift, Benny Anderssons Orkester, Akon (WDC) and P!nk (Funhouse), and just outside the top 75 is Britney Spears (Radar).

DISCLAIMER: THESE CHARTS ARE NOT OFFICIAL BLAH ETC, YOU KNOW THE DEAL.

LOL! Thanks B-Rye, it's very you  TBH I think it's more confusing having the top 10 seperate from the singles, but all in all, not a bad job :)

Tough break for Melanie Fiona :snif: And :o @ Benny Andersson Band top 75 :kink:
