October 9, 200915 yr Un-fukkin'-real..... Six months in prison...??? Christ, they'd may as well have heard this case in a Magistrate's court.... How utterly ridiculous.... What's the difference between their depraved indifference and that of the mother of Baby P FFS....??? <_ oh they middle class christians and baby p mother is just chav scum she> is, but that's not the point I'm making).... The end result is the same - Parents not giving a flying fukk about their kid's suffering..... Only difference is, one went on Facebook to ignore the suffering, the other read a fukkin' Bible..... <_ this makes me> beyond angry, is it any wonder very few people have any faith in the English "justice" system....? What has the English justice system got to do with a case in Wisconsin?
October 10, 200915 yr What has the English justice system got to do with a case in Wisconsin? What do you think the US system of Justice is based on....? France..? Germany...? Scotland...? Nope, it's all pretty much based on the justice system of England and Wales... And it's all come full circle now... We've even got a "Supreme Court" (the renamed House of Lords....)

The system itself is indeed based on the English system but I hardly think the English system can be blamed for some idiotic comments from a Wisconsin judge.
October 11, 200915 yr For me, this has to be one of the trickiest cases I've read about this year. If this guy genuinely thought what he was doing would save his daughter, is what he did really evil?
October 11, 200915 yr For me, this has to be one of the trickiest cases I've read about this year. If this guy genuinely thought what he was doing would save his daughter, is what he did really evil? There are plenty of people serving sentences of more than six months who I wouldn't describe as evil. Peter Sutcliffe (the Yorkshire Ripper) claimed to be acting on instructions from God. Whatever their religious beliefs, the parents should surely have been able to see that their daughter was dying and that their prayers weren't making any difference.

October 12, 200915 yr This isn't evil but it is bloody irresponsible hence the (rediculous) prison sentence. I don't think it's as black-and-white as that. If he genuinely believed that praying was the best option to save his daughter then in his mind it wasn't irresponsible. Don't get me wrong - even though I think I believe in God, if I was in this father's shoes I certainly would call for help before I started praying. But still... although this case is obviously a tragedy, and it is perhaps true that the daughter could have been saved had he called emergency services right away, this guy evidently genuinely thought he was doing the right thing. Comparing him to Baby P's mother is totally absurd.
October 12, 200915 yr In his mind it may not have been responsible but from society's point of view it was incredibly irresponsible, a total and fatal neglect of care.
