Penn Praises Bono’s Party Planning Skills

Sean Penn has hailed his pal Bono as “one of the greatest party planners alive” after the rocker hosted his lavish 50th birthday celebrations in Dublin, Ireland.

The Oscar-winning actor reached the milestone in August 2010 while he was filming This Must Be The Place, alongside Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson, in the Irish capital.

He left his birthday celebrations in the hands of the U2 rocker, who organised a bash with guests including the actor’s children and country legend Kris Kristofferson – and Penn was delighted with the party.

The star tells Britain’s Telegraph magazine, “He (Bono) takes us to lunch, then on a literary walking tour, then up the stairs of some famous pub – and there waiting are (folk band) the Dubliners. They play for five hours, my son sits in on guitar, we drink Guinness…

“And he didn’t just sing me Happy Birthday. He sang me (Me and) Bobby MCGee (by Kristofferson).”

JOHN LYDON LAYS INTO BONO

This time it is Bono who’s on the receiving end of John Lydon's sharp-tongued comments.

Wednesday April 11,2012

HE has never been backwards in coming forwards when expressing controversial opinions and John Lydon appears to have been at it again. This time it is Bono who’s on the receiving end of his sharp-tongued comments.

The former Sex Pistols frontman has turned his attention to the U2 singer’s charity work, saying it’s about time he practised what he preached.

“If Bono really wants to save the world in that dreary way he puts it, Bono open your wallet! It’s big enough now,” the 56-year-old tells Sky Arts programme In Confidence during an interview which will be screened on April 30. However, Bono has been named on Forbes’ most generous celebrity list.

John also slammed Phil Collins over his 1985 Live Aid performance during which he played in London as well as New York.

“Why didn’t he just play the drums down the telephone and save the money? Utter pomp and idiocy.” Ouch.

U2's Bono Makes Surprise Trip to Israel

No Plans for Israel Performance

By JTA

U2 lead singer Bono is on a personal visit to Israel.

The Irish singer, whose given name is Paul David Hewson, was seen at a restaurant and bar in Jaffa port with friends, surrounded by tight security.

U2 last performed in Israel in 1997; Bono reportedly does not have any current plans to perform in Israel.

Bono, who is also a human rights activist, announced in February, 2010, that the band would play in Israel the following summer, but it was never arranged, following an outcry from pro-Palestinian groups that urged him to boycott the Jewish state. He had turned down an invitation to play in Israel two years before that.

In God's country, Bono finds what he's looking for

U2 frontman in Israel for a short visit to spend time with friends. Leaves large tip at a Tel Aviv restaurant • The legendary Irish band leader is scheduled to leave Israel in the next few days to continue touring the world with U2.

Famed U2 front man, Bono, arrived in Israel on Monday for a short non-publicized visit. The iconic singer-musician dined in a restaurant at the Jaffa port together with several friends.

After dinner, the leader of the legendary Irish rock band and his wife headed to the Ilka bar on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv, enjoyed an expensive tequila and left a generous tip for the waiter.

As he exited the bar, more than 150 people stood on the sidewalk nearby and cheered him.

Bono is staying at a well-known Tel Aviv hotel and is expected to leave the country in the coming days due to U2's concert schedule.

According to Israel Radio, Bono is also in Israel for a meeting of the technology company Dropbox - which has Israeli partners - in which he is reportedly invested. The U2 front man has been known to be a high-level investor in technology firms. Dropbox allows users to store information online.

U2 was formed in 1976 and by the 1980s had become a top international act. The band has released 12 studio albums to date and are among the all-time best-selling music artists.

U2's record sales have reached 150 million and the group is credited with 22 Grammy Awards. In 2005, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

To continue touring the world with U2?

Really?

IGotta Feeling... that U2 have heard it before. IT’S no wonder Will.i.am is a big fan of U2 – one of their tracks influenced the Black Eyed Peas’ biggest hit.

http://i40.tinypic.com/4kfh1u.jpg

The producer has been accused of borrowing the melody for I Gotta Feeling from I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight, which was on the Irish band’s most recent album.

Veteran music-maker and chairman of InterScope Records Jimmy Iovine has revealed that Will.i.am heard the track while producing parts of the 2009 collection No Line On The Horizon.

Jimmy said: “I sent Will.i.am over to the studio to do some remixes on I’ll Go Crazy.

“He works on them for two weeks, comes back and writes I Gotta Feeling.”

Fair play to The Voice coach, though — he had the nerve to admit to Bono himself that he had been inspired by the track.

Jimmy added: “The chords are U2 chords, 100 per cent. Will even told them.”

Will.i.am was pretty brave to reveal that he’d used the band’s tune.

I Gotta Feeling has sold more than 14million copies worldwide and is the most downloaded song of all time. In comparison, U2 sold five million copies of the album that featured their song.

In the unlikely event that Bono becomes strapped for cash, he’s got a good chance of shaking down his old pal for a few pennies in inspiration tax.

It would be a drop in the ocean for the Black Eyed Pea these days, though, thanks to his massive new TV role.

Not only is the star picking up a hefty pay packet from The Voice, but the show is also boosting sales of some of his old tracks.

John Legend’s song Ordinary People, which Will.i.am wrote, is going to have its highest ever UK chart position thanks to a contestant singing it on the show last weekend.

The tune is currently at No3 in the midweek singles chart after Jaz Ellington did a rendition of it.

His version left Will in tears.

No wonder — he was probably thinking about the new safe he’d have to have installed once all the fresh royalties start flooding in

Bono and The Edge go acoustic for charity

http://i41.tinypic.com/20sfvcm.jpg

A stripped down 'Original Of The Species' appears on thew new Every Mother Counts 2012 compilation.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 23 Apr 2012

Bono and The Edge contribute an acoustic ‘Original Of The Species’ to Every Mother Counts 2012, a second compilation album that Christy Turlington’s titular charity is releasing in conjunction with Starbucks.

“I went to friends first, as I did with the first CD,” the supermodel tells Rolling Stone. "Bono and Chris Martin were great supporters of the project the first time around, and when I knew I wanted to include men on this album they were obvious choices. They are also both fathers to daughters. Others, such as Patti Smith and Rita Wilson, I've known for a long time, and some, like Edie Brickell and Paul Simon, I only met briefly but was a huge admirer. I generally wanted a diverse group of artists who were parents, or in the case of Edward Sharpe, who will be soon. We wanted to reach a broad audience on this issue with this particular project and with a range of perspectives.”

Other original contributions include Alanis Morissette’s ‘Magical Child’, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros’ ‘Mother’, the Electric Picnic-bound Patti Smith’s ‘Somalia’, Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Instead Of The Dead’ and Beck’s ‘Corrina, Corinna’, which is streaming at http://www.pitchfork.com/news/46260-listen...corrina-corrina

“Beck is one of my favorite artists and I was really moved by his choice in song, 'Corrina, Corrina’ which is a cover of a 1928 tune written by B. Chatman, M. Parish, and J. Mayo Williams,” Turlington enthuses. “I don't know the inspiration for the original song but I am so moved by Beck's version as he chose it with Every Mother Counts' mission to reduce maternal mortality in mind.”

U2’s Bono leaves poetry in Israel hotel room - “A Dog called Hope”

http://i45.tinypic.com/2lasqyc.png

Bono spent some time in Israel earlier this month and was obviously moved by his visit – so much so that he wrote a poem and sketched a drawing for the staff at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem where he stayed.

The U2 frontman, equally known for his advocacy on behalf of the African poor, sketched a picture of a dog he called Hope. He characterized Jerusalem as a place where “hope springs eternal.”

Here’s what he wrote: "Hope is like a faithful dog, sometimes she runs ahead of me to check the future, to sniff it out and then I call to her: Hope, Hope, come here, and she comes to me. I pet her, she eats out of my hand and sometimes she stays behind, near some other hope maybe to sniff out whatever was.

“Then I call her my Despair. I call out to her. Here, my little Despair, come here and she comes and snuggles up, and again I call her Hope."

He signed his letter, "With great thanks for great room in great hotel in great city, Bono."

It’s likely that Bono’s wife Ali and their two sons Elijah and John were with them too, as the bottom of the picture contained their names.

Bono’s visit to Israel was under the radar until his note came to light.
