BONO is still mulling over his embarrassing old looks.

The U2 frontman said: “There’s certain periods of the band I’ve erased. Like the mullet.”

He also confirmed he’s not the easiest person to work with.

Bono, THE EDGE, LARRY MULLEN and ADAM CLAYTON have been locked in the studio the past few months recording their new album.

Bono said: “It’s been the same old, same old, just looking for the perfect pop song.

“Edge is in denial of his genius, I’m a little too sure of my own, Larry’s suspicious of both and Adam sees merit in both.” :D

Strung along for €2.8m, Clayton welcomes verdict

Sunday July 01 2012

U2 star's 'trusted' former PA Carol Hawkins, who has been found guilty of fraud, went on an 'orgy of spending' over a four-year period before thefts came to light

U2 Star Adam Clayton warmly shook hands with some of the jurors who convicted his former personal assistant Carol Hawkins of fraud last week.

"I welcome today's outcome and I wish to thank the jury, An Garda Siochana and all those involved with the case. I'd like to thank all of my family, friends and colleagues for their support," he said after the case.

Ms Hawkins, the "trusted" former assistant of the U2 bassist still maintains she is innocent of stealing nearly €3m worth of cheques from the rock star, despite being convicted of the offences.

Ms Hawkins, whom the U2 bass guitarist met by chance on a Caribbean island in 1992 where she and her husband were running a small hotel, played on the good nature and trust of the 52-year-old musician. This chance meeting was to prove detrimental 16 years later as not only did the Grammy award-winning musician lose €2.8m but he lost his trust for a woman he let into his life.

Despite being given a house to stay in rent-free and a salary of €48,000, the "trusted employee" went on "an orgy of spending" with Mr Clayton's money and, according to prosecution counsel Colm O'Briain, she "proceeded like a whirlwind down Fifth Avenue and Bond Street," funding her secret lavish lifestyle.

Ms Hawkins, 48, who secretly purchased and maintained up to 22 thoroughbred racehorses, an apartment in New York, holidays and educated her children Joe and Eleanor with Mr Clayton's money, showed no reaction last Friday afternoon at Dublin Criminal Court when the jury returned a unanimous verdict on all 181 charges of theft after five hours of deliberations.

The mother of two, who looked pale and drawn, sat motionless with her chin resting on her hands and glanced up momentarily at Judge Patrick McCartan each time the "Guilty" verdict was read out by the jury foreman.

Mr Clayton, who had attended most days of the 18-day trial, maintained throughout the trial in his evidence that he had given her signing rights to cheques from his account for his legitimate expenses but she had no authority to fund her secret lavish lifestyle using his money. He arrived into the court room just as the jury were reading out their verdicts. Afterwards the musician briefly spoke to awaiting reporters and welcomed the outcome.

Judge McCartan released Ms Hawkins on bail for sentencing next Friday. Flanked by her solicitor Ms Lauren Martin, she covered up her face in the olive-green scarf as they exited the courthouse -- continuing in the way she had arrived and left the Criminal Courts of Justice each of the 18 days of the trial.

The trial, which Judge McCartan described as having "overwhelming evidence" heard how Ms Hawkins embezzled €2.8m over a four-year period by writing cheques from the musician's accounts in her name and lodging them into her accounts.

There were references in prosecution counsel's closing speeches that she had "an uncontrollable surge of spending," and her attempts to live the life of the likes of JP McManus and John Magnier with her overseas stables and first-class flights.

Ms Hawkins, of Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin, had pleaded not guilty to the 181 counts of theft from two of Mr Clayton's Bank of Ireland accounts from 2004 to 2008. The thefts totalled €2,862,567.

The thefts only emerged in 2008 when she went to France to confess to Mr Clayton that she had accidentally taken up to €15,000 from his account to pay for flights to visit her children in the US and London.

She was "suicidal", according to Mr Clayton, due to the breakdown of her marriage.

Mr Clayton said he was "extremely rattled and astounded" by this revelation as he had seen a side of Ms Hawkins he had never seen before.

Mr Clayton removed her as a cheque signatory but kept her on as a PA after he sought her assurance that she had made full disclosure of the theft. Investigations later revealed that it wasn't €15,000 she had taken but €2.8m.

Defence counsel Ken Fogarty maintained that Hawkins paid for items on her credit card to protect the privacy of Mr Clayton and that she had his consent to do this.

Mr Fogarty claimed Ms Hawkins was more than a housekeeper and bought items such as art work and furniture for his homes.

Mr Clayton completely dismissed this claim saying "I would buy the things I wanted around me. Carol Hawkins bought cornflakes."

Mr Fogarty also proposed that no one told her what she was doing was wrong and no one ever told her to stop. He also compared the situation to the sinking of the Titanic, saying that Mr Clayton was the captain but that there was no one to sound the warning signs.

"Mr Clayton was the captain of the ship and this could have been dealt with in 2004 but there was a decision not to have a warning system in place or a look out and this cannot be visited on the person lighting the flares," said Mr Fogarty.

Prosecution said there was "no element of accident to it" that it was a "cold, calculated act, perpetrated over a period of tim

O'Carroll wants U2 for Mrs Brown's Boys

Speaking to Kathryn Thomas on this morning's John Murray Show on RTÉ Radio One, O'Carroll said Bono and co are his dream choice to play the wedding band.

"That was just an offhand comment because I was asked about celebrity guest stars on the show," he said. "On the TV series the potential is there for celebrities to come in and out of the show and we decided not to go that route but in the movie we have that choice.

"There's a wedding in the movie and at the wedding scene if I had a choice of a wedding band I'd love U2 to do it, singing That's Amore. I'd say that would be great fun. Ali (Bono's wife) is probably listening to this somewhere going `what!?' I haven't put it out there but I think Bono might have a hard time saying no!"

As well as a second Mrs Brown film there is also an animated series of the IFTA and Bafta-Award winning show in the works. The next series of Mrs Brown's Boys begins shooting in late September

O'Carroll is back in Ireland to spearhead Ireland 25, a new charity drive that aims to raise money for 25 seperate Irish charities.

2 Bassist's Former Assistant Gets Seven Years in Prison

After being found guilty of 181 counts of theft earlier this week, a former assistant for U2 bassist Adam Clayton has been sentenced to seven years in prison, reports the Associated Press. Hawkins had stolen around 2.8 million euros, or about $3.5 million, from Clayton between 2004 and 2008, using the swiped funds on exotic holidays, designer goods, 22 horses, a Volkswagen Golf and other expenses.

"Nothing, frankly, could explain away the scale of this dishonesty other than the greed in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle that was no responsibility of Mr. Clayton's," said Judge Patrick McCartan. "These were crimes rooted in greed and nothing else. Whether she was a fool or clever person really matters very little."

Hawkins must also relinquish profits from a sale of a New York City apartment to Clayton. She worked for the bassist for almost 17 years after meeting him in 1992.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ Covered By Bono For Daughter’s Birthday Surprise

As if being U2‘s frontman is not notable enough, Bono attempted to impress one of his biggest fans this weekend, his daughter Eve.

Celebrating Eve’s birthday this past Sunday at 1OAK in Las Vegas, the Irish-born artist shocked the birthday beauty and partygoers alike by slipping the DJ a recorded track of a duet between he and his wife Ali Hewson.

The song was a unique version of Lady Gaga and Beyonce Knowles’ hit “Telephone”, the New York Post reports. The track has yet to be leaked. In addition to the recording, the music mogul dad sent two bottles of Dom Perignon Champage over to his daughter in celebration of her turning 21-years-old, the legal drinking age in the U.S.

The surprises did not stop there.

Rapper Fabulous also gave a special shout out to the birthday girl and dedicated a song in her honor. Eve tweeted a photo from the night, writing: “This Happened!”

Bono and Wife Serenade Daughter With Duet of Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’

Ali Hewson, Bono

Let’s offer a big happy birthday to U2 singer Bono and wife Ali Hewson’s daughter Eve. She celebrated turning 21 Saturday in Las Vegas with a big night out with her parents that included dinner at Tao Las Vegas, a couple of magnums of Dom Perignon champagne delivered to a private table at 10ak at the Mirage — and Bono and Ali slipping the DJ there a CD of them singing Lady Gaga‘s ‘Telephone’ to accompany the champagne as Dad got on the mic to wish his daughter a special one.

We haven’t been able to find video of Bono’s speech — or, more importantly, footage of him and wife singing Gaga — but perhaps that’s not so surprising. They were, after all, at a posh club full of celebrities like wild child Wilmer Valderrama and Laker star Kobe Bryant, a place where such things as privacy are generally respected. We kind of doubt footage of this fantastic experience ever will get out, as much as we would like it to.

Eve, by the way, is the second oldest of Bono and Ali’s four children. She briefly attended New York University before dropping out to pursue an acting career, appearing in Paolo Sorrentino’s ‘This Must Be the Place’ in 2011.

U2 hotel owes €57k as city council waits for €4.8m in unpaid rates

DUBLIN City Council still hasn't found what it's looking for from U2's Clarence Hotel.

THE local authority revealed it is owed more than €57,000 by the top hotel, which was bought by Bono and The Edge in 1993. <_<

The council named Brushfield Ltd, trading as The Clarence, on a list of 50 companies which owe a combined €4.8m in outstanding commercial rates from last year.

The levy - payable by business owners for the provision of council services - is a key source of revenue for local authorities across the country.

Clarence general manager Clinton Attwell told the Herald: "The hotel has been in existence for a long time. In that time, we have always paid our rates.

Occasionally, a balance would go through to the next year. We have a long-term relationship with Dublin City Council which has always worked well."

The Clarence, on Wellington Quay, has an outstanding bill of €57,823.75 from 2011.

Brushfield Limited lists Bono and The Edge as directors.

Surprised

City officials said the top 50 companies owe a total of €4,885,831.34, with Tulane Business Management listed as having an unpaid bill of €892,956.08.

Tulane operates the hotels formerly run by developer Sean Dunne's MJBCH company in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.

But Pat McCann of Dalata Hotel Group, as associate company of Tulane, told the Herald the sum is actually owed by MJBCH and not Tulane.

He pointed out Tulane only took over the operation of the business in January this year.

Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam sought the information ahead of a meeting with City Manager John Tierney about the council's budget for 2013.

"To be honest, I was surprised there was that much outstanding," he told the Herald. "I want to know what the council is doing to accrue these outstanding rates."

The details show that NAMA owes the council €132,789.21 relating to 38-40 Grand Canal Street Lower.

Labour councillor Dermot Lacey called on the State loans agency to "pay its bills" to the local authority.

Jennifer Lopez Wants Bono on American Idol

Jennifer Lopez wants U2's Bono, Jon Bon Jovi or The Rolling Stones' frontman Sir Mick Jagger to succeed her on 'American Idol'.

The singer announced she was leaving the show after two series last week, and thinks they should target a huge rock star, such as the U2 and Bob Jovi star, or The Rolling Stones' Sir Mick Jagger, to replace her.

When asked who should take her place on the show, she told ABC news: "I think Bono or Bon Jovi or Mick Jagger. You know me, I think big."

Bono for new American Idol judge? Well J-Lo does always get what she wants

FORMER American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez has revealed who she thinks should take her place on the struggling talent show’s panel – U2 front man Bono.

When the ‘On the floor’ singer was asked who she feels should replace her on the judging panel for the new series, she said “I think Bono or Bon Jovi or Mick Jagger. You know me, I think big”.

Lopez claims she left her $15m (€12m) job after fellow judge Steven Tyler left the panel, despite persistent rumours her departure was linked to stalled salary negotiations – she is rumoured to have sought an addition al $2m (€1.5m) to take her earnings higher than rival talent show judge X Factor USA’s Britney Spears.

Aerosmith front man Tyler left the show to concentrate on his music with the band, however Lopez says: “We had magic. I don’t know, with him gone it might be a different formula”.

However Bono may not be available to follow up Lopez’s suggestion – U2’s much anticipated follow up album to ‘No line on the horizon’ has been slated for a release next year according to record company executives.

The departure of Lopez and Tyler mean that Randy Jackson remains the only judge left on the panel from the last series, indeed it is a seat he has occupied since the show’s first series with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.

Speaking on his fellow judge’s departure, Jackson said: “Steven and Jennifer are truly two of the most talented and consummate professionals I’ve worked with”.

“I was friends with them before we hopped on this crazy journey together and I have no doubt our friendships will continue long after. I will love them for life”, he continued.

U2itude Launches Mobile App Development Fund-Raising Effort on indiegogo.com

On a mission to unite U2 fans world-wide to determine the greatest U2 song of all time, two executive entrepreneurs and co-authors of U2itude, The Ultimate Handbook for U2 Fans, are raising money on indiegogo.com to build U2itude, the Ultimate Mobile App for U2 fans. This revolutionary mobile app will let fans listen-to and rate every U2 song and connect fans around the world to share and compare scores and initiate passionate discussion within the U2 fan community.

"What we learned from U2 fan feedback to our book was that there was a very active and vocal community of U2 fans who need a forum to rank and discuss U2 songs. We want to give U2 fans everywhere this forum, but as U2 fans know, sometimes you can't make it on your own," said Chris Sorgie 'Sorge'. "We are happy to announce that our fundraising campaign video is now posted on Indiegogo, giving us a unique platform to explain this App and seek support to make this dream a reality."

Click this link to fund raising campaign to watch the video and learn more about U2itude: http://www.indiegogo.com/u2itude. For those who donate, rewards include use of the app prior to the official release, autographed copies of U2itude, the Ultimate Handbook for U2 fans, U2itude T-shirts and towels and an exclusive invitation to the U2itude launch party.

U2itude is a revolutionary mobile app that will let fans listen-to and rate every U2 song on five specific criteria: Music, Lyrics, Message, Energy and U2itude. Once rated, U2itude will connect you with other fans around the world to share scores and engage in discussions with this enthusiastic fan community. The App includes unique playlists like U2 Anthems, will feature over 25 playlists and U2 fans will be able to create their own adding them to the U2itude collection.

"The music rating revolution will start here, with U2itude. When U2itude is a proven success, our vision is to apply this mobile application to other great music artists," said Sal Petronella, 'Sal'. "U2itude's expansion plans include artists with large song catalogs and ultra-passionate fans, such as Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and The Black Eyed Peas."

Basic design elements and the framework for the app have been approved. Technical expertise to build an engaging mobile app experience is needed and U2itude's goal is to raise $40,000 on indiegogo to hire a world class mobile app development team to bring this project to life.

"We have been in discussions with a few experts in this field and are confident we will hire a company that shares our vision and passion for this project. We are dreaming out loud! Help make this dream a reality," added Sal and Sorge.

Bono – Most Famous Mullets

Though he’s been known more in the last two decades for his trademark “Fly” sunglasses, the most distinct look of Bono‘s early days was his ’80s mullet. Much like the rockers of his day, his hair was rather poofy up front, but part of what made the U2 singer’s “Sho-Long” distinctive was his ability to grow out his hair in back and have it curl back toward his neck and shoulders.

In later years, Bono would apologize for the unfortunate hairstyle, but we say, Bono, take some pride, in the name of love, of that look. It worked for you at the time.
