U2's quay landmark goes

GUITAR legend THE EDGE told me how sad he was that the band’s productive studio in Dublin is about to be bulldozed.

The U2 star said Hanover Quay, where they recorded the album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, had a special place in their hearts.

He said: “It’s getting demolished as part of a redevelopment of the docklands. It is going to be turned into a tower block and we will make the penthouse into a studio.

It’s very sad, that place felt like home. I don’t know what it will be like recording in the new studio, we are so used to the other place.”

He also revealed U2 have been in Morocco and wrote some songs there. But he added: “We don’t have anything scheduled for a new album. It’s nice not to have that pressure.”

'Hands up anyone who owns a Zune...'

Edge was at the GQ Awards in London earlier this week, honouring Jonathan Ive the designer of the iPod.

'Okay! Hands up anyone who owns a Zune?’. A solitary arm was raised in reponse to Edge's question at London’s Royal Opera House. 'Who owns an iPod?' Surprise - almost every arm in the room shot up, which was Edge's cue to celebrate the achievements of his good friend Jonny Ive,

'The iPod is such an integral part of our lives that it's hard to believe there was a time when it didn't exist. But there was. Remarkably, someone went to work one day, stared at a blank piece of paper, and dreamed up this beautiful, clever, desirable piece of kit. GQ's Product Designer of the Year is the creator of the iPod, the iPhone, and quite simply everything we know and love about Apple. He brings beautiful objects to the masses, he is the truly gifted Jonathan Ive.'

Edge was joined at the event by Paul McGuinness and Kathy; also presenting awards were Helena Christensen, Madonna and Naomi Campbell - to recipients such as Kanye West, Paul McCartney and the Kaiser Chiefs.

'He's a man you must believe...'

That's Dr Robert, played by Bono in 'Across the Universe', Julie Taymor's new film, a love story set in the sixties and inspired by Beatles' songs . It opens this month.

The film tells the story of dock worker Jude (Jim Sturgess) who travels to America to find his estranged father. He falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) whose brother Max (Joe Anderson) is drafted to fight in Vietnam - which leads them into the anti-war movement.

Salma Hayek and Joe Cocker also feature, as well as Eddie Izzard playing Mr Kite.

Bono performs 'I Am The Walrus' with The Secret Machines.

I am the egg man ??  Oh cheers for the clip, looks great, must see it  Bono looks... rather interesting

Edge At The Races

Edge was backing the horses last weekend, supporting the work of Mencap Northern Ireland.

The learning disability charity was holding its first Race Day event at The Curragh in Co Kildare and Edge was among the special guests learning about their activities. The charity works with people with a learning disability and their families and carers, fighting to end discrimination and prejudice, and providing a wide range of quality services.

How Kate Moss was gazumped by U2

When Kate Moss spotted the £6million villa with garden studio and a gaggle of celebrity neighbours, she was quick to reach for her chequebook.

Unfortunately for her, however, another famous face was even more taken with the seven-bedroom property.

Adam Clayton, bass player with the rock band U2, decided to rule out any chance of a bidding war by putting in an astonishing offer of £12.5million - more than twice the asking price.

Not surprisingly Miss Moss declined to match it and the 47-year-old musician is said to be "delighted" with his purchase.

The property in north-west London has a rear lawn in the shape of a keyhole, with paving leading to the 1,200-square-foot studio.

Despite its hefty price tag, it is described as "in need of modernisation" by estate agents Knight Frank.

It was the home of royal courtier Lieutenant Colonel Sir Edward William Spencer Ford, who died in November last year aged 96.

He was assistant private secretary to George VI from 1946 to 1952 and performed the same role for the Queen until his retirement in 1967.

He was credited as supplying the Queen with the phrase "annus horribilis" to describe 1992, following the breakdown of family marriages and the devastating fire at Windsor Castle.

The celebrity auction started in July shortly after 33-year-old Miss Moss was shown the property with her then boyfriend, Pete Doherty, in tow.

The house that Kate wanted: This seven-bedroom property is in a road full of celebrities

Immediately taken with the 4,000-square-foot villa, the studio of which once belonged to Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, she put in an offer matching the £6million asking price.

With a flustered estate agent playing piggy in the middle, Clayton, a former fiance of Miss Moss's rival supermodel Naomi Campbell, responded with his offer of more than twice that figure.

The house boasts a key-shaped lawn with studio at the rear

"The house is truly spectacular, very spacious and homely," said a property source.

"Both Kate and Adam were shown the glossy prospectus and then given viewings, and both made all the right noises, saying how much they loved it.

Moving in: U2 star Adam Clayton placed an offer the owner could not refuse - a cool £12.5m

"It's on a really quiet, desirable residential street which is crammed with celebrities so Kate and Adam were told they wouldn't get bothered if they did live there.

"For the pair of them the main selling point was the garden studio. Kate initially hoped she and Pete could use it as a creative den. Adam, of course, simply saw it as a recording studio.

"As a result they put in offers within a week of one another. It was only then that things began to spiral out of control, with Adam, in particular, making it clear that money was no object.

"With several projects on the go, the last thing Adam wanted was to become embroiled in a catty bidding war. By offering way above the asking price, he wanted to get the purchase wrapped up."

The property, which has a garage and off-road parking, has neighbours including Lulu, Chrissie Hynde, Sir Richard Branson and Annie Lennox.

Adam Clayton was born in Oxfordshire but moved to Ireland with his parents at the age of five.

At a comprehensive school in Dublin he got together with Paul 'Bono' Hewson, Larry Mullen Jr and Dave 'The Edge' Evans to form the band which would eventually become U2.

My god, that's nearly €20 million, NO WAY is that house worth even €5imo. It is nothing special :o
