Robbie records song for Jacko

By BECI WOOD

Published: Today

FORMER TAKE THAT star ROBBIE WILLIAMS has paid tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON in a moving track on his upcoming album.

Robbie's forthcoming Reality Killed the Video Star is scheduled to hit shelves in October and final preparations are underway for its release.

But Rob surprised record label executives at a meeting last week by announcing he wanted to add a last minute song to the track list to honour the late King Of Pop, who died in June.

He explains: "Michael Jackson died. It's all so very sad.

"I couldn't get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs, so when he passed away I rewrote it with him in mind."

Robbie Williams announces comeback album, Reality Killed the Video Star

Robbie Williams is to end his self-imposed exile from the music industry by releasing a comeback album this autumn.

The onetime Take That singer and solo chart-topper will unveil the first single, Bodies, on October 12 before releasing Reality Killed the Video Star on November 9.

Writing on his blog, Williams, 35, promised that his first album in three years will be “a killer” and would surprise fans as it contained the “old Robbie, new Robbie and a Robbie that neither of us have met”.

He also revealed that the album would contain a dedication to Michael Jackson.

“Couldn't get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs,” he blogged.

“When he passed away I rewrote it with him in mind.”

The Brit award and Ivor Novello-winner hasn’t toured or made an album since his 2006 effort, Rudebox, was rubbished by critics and won him the Worst Album of the Year at the NME Awards.

He had previously enjoyed a string of success, racking up six No 1 singles, including Millenium and Rock DJ, and selling more 55 million albums worldwide.

Worth an estimated £80 million, Williams, who is signed to EMI, has employed heavyweight help to ensure his latest album flies.

His team includes veteran producer Trevor Horn, who has worked with Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and Seal, and lyricist Don Black, who penned Bond themes Diamonds are Forever and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Recorded in London, after Williams returned to the UK following a stint living in Los Angeles, the comeback album will put an end to rumours that the singer had plans to rejoin Take That.

He walked out on the band in 1995 and the remaining four members split up shortly afterwards. Led by Gary Barlow, they reformed without Williams in 2005 and enjoyed huge success as the solo singer's career stalled.

Earlier this year, Williams said a reunion with the band was “looking more likely by the week”.

But if Take That fans were disappointed by today's announcement, Williams fans were anything but.

This afternoon his website was awash with fans wishing him well, the messages summed up best by one commenter, who simply wrote: "Yay! Robbie is back!"

Comments (7) Add to My Stories Only a few months ago he looked overweight, unkempt and - dare we say it - rather un-lustworthy.

But Robbie Williams has proved to his fans that he can stage a comeback as spectular as his former Take That bandmates.

In a new video released on his website, the Angels singer looks handsome, healthy, happy and ready to conquer the charts.

Back for good: Robbie Williams unveils his new look in the exclusive video

Bouncing back: The singer looks smart, sexy and ready for success

A newly-slimmed down Robbie has ditched his previous wild beardy look for a smooth, clean-shaven image.

And he's obviously sticking with his new chestnut look.

After being snapped with salt and pepper streaks earlier this summer, the 35-year-old star was seen looking distinctly 'refreshed' just days later.

The behind-the-scenes video posted on Robbie's website shows the singer messing around backstage while filming the pop video for his next single.

Enlarge Enlarge He's baa-aack: Mr Williams ditches the beard (right) and looks clean shaven and totally ship-shape for his comeback (left)

Cheese! Robbie pulls his trademark grin during a photoshoot featured on the behind-the-scenes video

He's also seen posing for photographs, playing with a puppy and wearing a lovely woolly jumper.

Other exclusive footage shows the singer riding a motorbike and pretending to pole-dance during a photoshoot.

More...Old before I dye: Has Robbie Williams been hitting the bottle?

I'm loving aliens instead... Robbie Williams thinks they've invaded his home and record bosses are worried about him

Robbie's gone on strike (and so has his razor)

The Circus rolls into town: Take That don clown costumes as £50m tour kicks off

Female fans may be frustrated to see he still looks totally loved up with girlfriend Ayda Field. Robbie has been seeing the American actress, 30, for nearly two years.

In the new video, the pair are seen laughing and joking in a grassy field and playing up for the cameras.

Loved up: Robbie and Ayda fool about in a field - breaking hearts across the nation...

Fields of joy: The couple have been dating for nearly two years and seem very happy together

But we're happy to see that Rob has finally beaten his demons.

In 2006, sales of his album Rudebox were much less than predicted and he was forced to cancel a tour of Asia after suffering from stress and exhaustion.

He also spent some time in an Arizona rehab clinic for an addiction to anti-depressants.

In February this year, the Mail revealed that the troubled singer also believes in aliens and had appeared on a website happily discussing what he believes were alien visitations to him while he was living in America.

Wrapped up: Robbie looks more like a knitwear catalogue model than a superstar singer in this get-up!

Puppy love: Susceptible women, look away now - Robbie takes time out from filming to play with a puppy on set

Now the star seems to be back on the fast-track to success.

His new album, Reality Killed the Video Star, is due out on 9 November, while the first single from the album - Bodies - will be released on 12 October.

Fans can download a digital version of the song from www.RobbieWilliams.com.

Let's hope Robbie can catch up with his former bandmates.

Take That have enjoyed a hugely successful comeback since they they reformed three years ago without the singer.

Suits you! Robbie gets a helping hand while preparing for yet another photoshoot

Smart guy: Robbie jokes around with his stylists during filming

The group, who split in 1996, released a new album, Beautiful World in 2007 and which became the fourth biggest selling album of the year.

They won two Brit Awards for the first two singles from the album, which also went to number one in the charts along with their follow-up album The Circus which was released last year.

Their Circus tour has wowed reviewers and fans alike with lavish performances.

Good luck Robbie and welcome back!

ROBBIE TO STAR ON X FACTOR

8th August 2009

By Peter Dyke

POP superstar Robbie Williams is to be an Angel to this year’s X Factor finalists.

As part of his comeback plans this autumn he will help mentor the TV wannabes.

Robbie will also perform songs from his long-awaited album Reality Killed The Video Star.

The ex-Take That hunk, 35, will pop up on X Factor when the ITV show reaches the live stages of the contest in October.

Show supremo Simon Cowell, 49, has decided to theme one of the week’s as Robbie Williams Hits Week.

Contestants will have to perform the star’s best songs, including Angels, She’s The One and Let Me Entertain You.

Robbie will meet the acts during rehearsals and give them tips on their performances as they prepare for the big Saturday night show.

Then fans can enjoy watching him sing his new tracks live.

A senior insider said: “This is a massive coup to get Robbie. We’ve had some great acts in the past like Westlife, Beyoncé and Britney come on the show.

“But Robbie will be a big ratings puller for us this year.”

Robbie is a huge X Factor fan and he has even admitted that he regularly dials up and votes in the contest.

The singer said: “I always phone in and vote.

“It becomes the most important thing in your life at that moment.

“I voted for three or four people on the last X Factor.”

However, TV judge Louis Walsh, 57, might shy away from meeting the star. He has said of Robbie in the past: “He’s just a karaoke singer.”

We can also reveal that last year’s winner Alexandra Burke, 20, will return to the show, which launches on Saturday, August 22, also as a mentor.

Alexandra is currently in Los Angeles putting the finishing touches to her new album, which is being produced by Jay-Z, 39, and Jay Brown.

Wouldn't exactly call this exciting news ...but :heehee: it's the best 3AM could come up with <_<

Robbie: Vote for BB Dave

Robbie Williams is so hooked on Big Brother, he is rallying his fans to vote for Dave.

He originally wanted Freddie to scoop the title, saying: "He's from my neck of the woods and he seems to have a good heart."

But he swapped his allegiance from his homeboy to Dave after last week's eviction.

He said: "As of now, I want Dave to win ... I love him. Please vote Dave to stay."

Rob for celebrity BB? We'd be watching you...

Madonna and Robbie Williams sign up for X Factor

Madonna and Robbie Williams will make appearances in the new season of The X Factor

The choreographer for the television talent show has reportedly let slip that the singers will act as mentors to contestants during filming.

Brian Friedman also revealed that Simon Cowell, the founder of the reality TV contest, has hired Whitney Houston and Rihanna, the Umbrella singer.

A source told The Sun that the details had not yet been officially revealed but Mr Friedman, 32, could not resist "blabbing" about the signings.

"Brian is really excited about this year's show because there are some great artists involved. He is proud to be part of it and admires Simon's ability to attract A-listers."

Madonna, Williams, Houston and Rihanna will give personal masterclasses to some of the contestants during the finals of the show, which starts later this month.

Last year mentors included the boyband Westlife, Take That's Gary Barlow and Mark Owen and R'n'B singer Beyoncé.

The revelations show that ITV producers have decided to dig deep into their budget as they compete with other programmes for viewers.

But the programme will no longer have to compete with Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday evenings. The BBC is to abandon its Sunday night results show for an extended Saturday slot to avoid any clash with the X Factor.

Couples will compete, face the public vote and have the dance-off all in a single show as the corporation attempts to make Saturday night ''Strictly night''.

It is understood that part of the reason for the change is the desire to avoid a possible clash with the X Factor results show, which may be shown on Sundays this year.

The new series of Strictly will begin in September with two special Friday night launch shows, but will switch to Saturdays only from then on.

This is brilliant, two of my fav artists

Couldn't agree more Spark...cannot wait.... :cheer: both of those shows should be brilliant :w00t:

I just hope he is not on when I am away in November or I will slit my wrists

Will Robbie Williams relight our fire in 2009?

Robbie's confessional pop was so late 90s. Will we still care,

asks Priya Elan

Two recent Robbie memories spring to mind: firstly, watching a wedding band waddle through Let Me Entertain You. The perfectly average performance centred the song into view. Stripped of Robbie's bare chest, Kiss facepaint and catsuit, the song stood out of context, out of time, and kind of cringey.

Secondly, sitting through an hour-long Robbie special on VH-1, watching him smirk through Millennium and move awkwardly during Radio. The gurning superstar who was playing at being devilish. At the time they were brilliant, slightly subversive pop moments. But the years haven't been kind to them.

The boy from Stoke returns with a new album - Reality Killed The Video Star produced by Trevor Horn - in November, his first for three years, but we can't help wonder if his success was all about the context. Looking back, it's clear to see that the period in which he scored five consecutive No 1 albums (1997 to 2002) was a weirdly flat time in popular culture.

Musically, we were living in a black hole; Cerys Matthews appeared edgy and Air seemed like the coolest things in the world. More generally, the culture of the confessional celebrity had come into its own. The seed was planted by word-vomit tome Prozac Nation (1994) and by the time Big Brother and Heat magazine arrived, we were ready to embrace the age of Too Much Information. We expected more from our celebrities and Robbie Williams was the perfect pop star to fill that need.

He was a celeb who unwittingly defined the era. Damaged, but therapy-speak honest, clownishly arrogant but self-hating and ready to get naked at any moment. Robbie's career was built around him screaming "please help me" to anyone who would listen.

This was the narrative that unfolded through his work. There were the winking album titles (Life Thru A Lens); songs which analysed the damage from his Take That days (No Regrets, The 90s); his insecurities (Strong); and his drug addiction (Good Doctor). Not to mention the videos (Eternity, featuring a Nicole Appleton lookalike; Come Undone and Rock DJ both showing Williams having very different sorts of celebrity meltdowns).

Robbie, more than any modern singer, calls to mind Warren Beatty's quote about Madge, "She doesn't want to live off camera ... Why would you say something if it's off camera? What point is there existing?"

He fled to LA when, in a career full of punchlines, the final joke seemed to be on him - namely the double whammy of the commercially underselling (but artistically triumphant) Rudebox and the surprise success of Take That V2.0. Robbie may have gotten hirsute and heavy in California, but there was sense he was finally at peace; in a city where everyone was a wannabe, he could go about his business unbothered.

The truth is, Robbie feels like a brilliant relic from a time that has passed. Can the 2009 model really say anything that hasn't been said before? Successful as the new album will be, we can't help but think Robbie would be happier UFO-spotting in Roswell than bothering with this pop star lark again.

Harris flattered by Robbie Williams email

Wednesday, August 19 2009, 15:16 BST

By Nick Levine, Music Editor

Calvin Harris has revealed that he was surprised recently to receive an email from Robbie Williams.

The Scottish dance star, who has previously expressed a desire to work with Williams, was especially pleased with the email's flattering content.

Describing the message to DS, Harris recalled: "He sent me a picture of him, the Spice Girls and Boyzone wearing ridiculous '90s pop outfits and said, 'Please stop being a popstar because you're making us all look bad'. I thought that was a really nice thing to do."

Harris proceeded to reply to Williams's email in equally complimentary terms.

"I said I was looking forward to his record and it's always nice when a genuine pop superstar comes back to show us how it's really done," he said. "His new album's going to be amazing. I can't wait for it."

Calvin Harris's album Ready For The Weekend is out now. Robbie Williams returns with new LP Reality Killed The Video Star on November 9.

Robbie Williams feared he had swine flu

Published:Aug 18, 2009

The ‘Angels’ singer sparked health concerns after revealing he was having a medical check up to discover if he had contracted the potentially-fatal virus after suffering from flu-like symptoms.

He wrote on his blog: "Off to the doctors to confirm if I have pig or not."

The posting was followed by several get well messages from concerned fans.

However, his spokesperson has now confirmed the singer – who is currently preparing to release his long-awaited comeback album, ‘Reality Killed The Video Star’ - does not have the illness, but is suffering from a heavy cold.

The representative said: "He was just being ultra careful by going to the doctor. He was shooting his video for the new single ‘Bodies’ last week and picked up a cold on the set."

Robbie isn’t the only celebrity caught up in a swine flu scare.

’Harry Potter’ actor Rupert Grint - who plays Ron Weasley in the hit wizard film franchise - thought he was going to die when he contracted the highly contagious illness last month.

He said: "It was quite scary when I first found out I had swine flu. I thought, ’Am I going to die?’ But it was just like any other flu really. I had a sore throat and I went to bed for a few days."

‘Get Sexy’ trio Sugababes were forced to cancel a concert in Leeds, north England, last month after singers Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah fell ill with a "severe bout of flu" - expected to be the highly-contagious H1N1 virus.

Last week, it was reported Kasabian singer Tom Meighan had been rushed to hospital in Sydney, Australia, where he was diagnosed with the potentially-deadly virus.

A day later, his bandmates guitarist Serge Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards and drummer Ian Matthews were left bedridden after coming down with the same symptoms.

Robbie Williams buys Zermatt ski apartment

Robbie Williams has bought a ski apartment in Switzerland. The former Take That star is believed to have invested in Zermatt.

Williams, who is releasing a comeback album later this year, takes regular ski holidays in Switzerland, according to The Mail on Sunday. Locals believe that Williams has now bought an apartment in the "A-list resort" of Zermatt.

The Zermatt purchase is the latest addition to the singer's property portfolio. He already owns properties in Wiltshire, the Hollywood Hills and London.

Madonna, Richard Branson and Nicole Kidman are also believed to be fans of Zermatt, which is "becoming the place to be seen in the Alps". The resort is also popular with royalty - Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are regularly spotted on the slopes with their mother Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

LET ME ENTERTAIN YOUR & YOU MUM '

http://i29.tinypic.com/6fxhyf.jpg

RELATIONS with the mother-in-law can put a strain on many people.

But that's not something ROBBIE WILLIAMS has to worry about.

The singer is so fond of girlfriend AYDA FIELD's mum GWEN he has invited her to move in with them.

Robbie wants Gwen to live in his country pile near Swindon for months at a time.

Brave move, Robbie.

I'm told Rob and Gwen bonded over a shared love of poker, and the rocker has been flying her over to the UK from her California home regularly since getting the keys to his £8.5million Wilts mansion in January.

A pal said: "Robbie has really hit it off with Ayda's mum. One of his hobbies is playing poker with a small group of pals including his mate JONATHAN WILKES.

"Gwen has joined in a few times, and on a couple of occasions Robbie and Gwen have carried on playing into the wee small hours after everyone else went to bed."

With Robbie and Ayda moving back to the UK full-time ahead of his new album release, he's keen for Gwen to come, too.

Robbie thinks it's good for American Ayda to have her mum around - especially if he's going to be busy promoting Reality Killed The Video Star.

And he is in good company. CHERYL COLE's mum JOAN TWEEDY often stays over with her and Ashley.

The pal added: "Robbie's new house is massive and it would be a lonely place to rattle about in on your own.

"But Ayda and Gwen will have a lot of fun together.

"There are tennis courts and a gym and some nice countryside.

"Plus there is completely separate accommodation so Gwen can have her privacy."

Knowing how mothers-in-law like to look after you so much, I'm sure Robbie will be spoiled rotten.

By David Balls, Music Reporter

Calvin Harris has revealed that he is eager to record a collaboration with Robbie Williams.

The Scottish producer, who released second album Ready For The Weekend on Monday, admitted that Williams was highest on his wish list.

"I want to work with Robbie, he's my number one target now," he told the Daily Star.

"I think he's just finished his new album with Trevor Horn though. Maybe he can come help me on my next record instead."

Speaking to DS recently, Harris confirmed that he had been in contact with Williams.

"I did get an email from Robbie Williams the other day, which was just mental," he said.

"He sent me a picture of him, the Spice Girls and Boyzone wearing ridiculous '90s pop outfits and said, 'Please stop being a popstar because you're making us all look bad'. I thought that was a really nice thing to do."

Harris recently confirmed that he was planning to collaborate with both Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue on their respective new albums.

 good observation
