Posted August 4, 200916 yr from the Daily Express: THOUSANDS of the worst families in England are to be put in “sin bins” in a bid to change their bad behaviour, Ed Balls announced yesterday. The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes. They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals. Private security guards will also be sent round to carry out home checks, while parents will be given help to combat drug and alcohol addiction. Around 2,000 families have gone through these Family Intervention Projects so far. But ministers want to target 20,000 more in the next two years, with each costing between £5,000 and £20,000 – a potential total bill of £400million. Ministers hope the move will reduce the number of youngsters who get drawn into crime because of their chaotic family lives, as portrayed in Channel 4 comedy drama Shameless. Sin bin projects operate in half of council areas already but Mr Balls wants every local authority to fund them. He said: “This is pretty tough and non-negotiable support for families to get to the root of the problem. There should be Family Intervention Projects in every local authority area because every area has families that need support.” But Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said: “This is all much too little, much too late. “This Government has been in power for more than a decade during which time anti-social behaviour, family breakdown and problems like alcohol abuse and truancy have just got worse and worse.” Mr Balls also said responsible parents who make sure their children behave in school will get new rights to complain about those who allow their children to disrupt lessons. Pupils and their families will have to sign behaviour contracts known as Home School Agreements before the start of every year, which will set out parents’ duties to ensure children behave and do their homework. The updated Youth Crime Action Plan also called for a crackdown on violent girl gangs as well as drug and alcohol abuse among young women. But a decision to give ministers new powers to intervene with failing local authority Youth Offending Teams was criticised by council leaders. Les Lawrence, of the Local Government Association, said they did “crucial” work and such intervention was “completely unnecessary”. ----------------- Talk about complete invasion of privacy, god soon enough '1984' is going to become a true story, i find it quite disgusting that something like this would actually happen.
August 4, 200916 yr whilst id agree that it is a huge invasion of privacy, on the other hand there are sections in society that seem totally incapable of behaving in an adult, mature, responsible manner.. ps...this will NEVER go ahead.
August 4, 200916 yr I knew it... I FUKKIN' KNEW IT!!!!! This is the wet dream of those in power, the idea of the "Panopticon" prison, as previously thought up by Jeremy Bentham, taken to its logical extreme, and it was cr@p like "Big Brother" and other reality shows, as well as "celeb culture", web cams, etc, which softened up our resolve to the whole concept of such flagrant invasions of privacy.... No, the answer is NOT to go down this path, it's for Social Workers to ACTUALLY DO THEIR FUKKIN' JOBS and intervene a damn sight more than they actually do, and target those who are the problem in a far more effective manner, if this means taking kids out of a corrossive enviroment, then so be it... It's a damn sight better than going down this path which is needlesly intrusive and just downright ineffective.... This is the thin end of the wedge, this is the beginning of the Orwellian nightmare, the very real Police State is becoming more and more of a reality every time a fukkin' politician opens their mouths about this sort of thing.... This needs to be resisted by any right thinking person who regards freedom and democracy.... It's easy to just brush this aside and say "oh well, it's only a bunch of chavs"... Yeah, TODAY it's Chavs, tomorrow it's the rest of us..... <_<
August 4, 200916 yr What are the odds this is just more Daily Express scaremongering? Even the government aren't so idiotic that they think they wouldn't get absolutely mauled for this...
August 4, 200916 yr This is extreme and an invasion of privacy not to mention a perverts charter if cameras are going to be placed in bedrooms and so on too There is a lot of unused land in this country I would like to see Chav City created where the problem families and individuals in society are placed in their own city that is ringfenced with a massive wall round it with electric fencing so those that are confined to chav city can't infest the rest of the population, chav city would be like any other city with housing, shops, schools, roads, hospitals and so on but would mean that the problem individuals are confined to this city and are not allowed access to the outside world beyond that city that way it is not a prison as such but merely a city where scumbags are cut off from the law abiding population

Wouldn't really be much of a change from what these cities are already like.....
August 4, 200916 yr How the bloody hell would you assign people to this city Craig? Your whole plan sounds really quite sinister tbh...

August 4, 200916 yr The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes. So... I can't take a dump in my own bog  talk about extreme
August 5, 200916 yr So... I can't take a dump in my own bog  talk about extreme erm... are you a 'problem family' then?.... crazy chris might have summut to worry about!
August 5, 200916 yr A bit like the Jewish ghettoes in the 1930s and 40s you mean? Well, no, I mean, we wouldn't exterminate them or anything, or starve them, or deny them medical care.... And it wouldn't be done according to ethnicity either... Chavs are not some "ethnic minority" in their own right you know, because you get Chavs of all races, creeds, etc.....
August 5, 200916 yr So... I can't take a dump in my own bog  talk about extreme Well, you've hit upon a very serious problem here... I mean, how DO you do this...? You cant very well set up cameras in the bathroom (er, that being ever-so-slightly ILLEGAL), or in bedrooms (er, that being ever-so-slightly DODGY, esp. where kids are concerned, unless you're naive enough think that all Council Employees and the Filth are totally all "pure of heart" and wont be getting their rocks off by some "bedroom action" -_- ....), so, basically that leaves the living room and kitchen.....

Exactly If this thing is to stop them from behaving in an anti social manner what is stopping them injecting themselves with heroin and drinking loads of special brew in their bathroom where they can't be watched, unless of course they are going to be watched in bathrooms and bedrooms :puke2:

Exactly, they will live normal lives, would have the freedom of an entire city and have the same life as anyone else, just they would be confined full time to their city so as to not infest the rest of the population
August 5, 200916 yr tbh i dont know why so many are getting irate about this.. ITS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! wake up...its a tabloid bit of bollox scaremongering... people will be quoting the sport next <_<
August 5, 200916 yr tbh i dont know why so many are getting irate about this.. ITS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! wake up...its a tabloid bit of bollox scaremongering... people will be quoting the sport next <_< The fact that Ed Balls is even thinking about this is surely bad enough though, even if it doesn't actually come to fruition.... Frankly, Craig's idea of "Chav City" is less objectionable than this CCTV lark..... Isolate all them antisocial, criminal buggers who cause the sh!t in the first place and the rest of us wouldn't need to be followed around in the streets by CCTV cams, why the hell should I tolerate being spied on in the streets - I'VE DONE NOWT WRONG..... Unless of course the whole concept of CCTV has an underlying motive which has little actually to do with preventing anti-social behaviour or crime.....
August 5, 200915 yr You still have yet to answer how the 'chavs' would be assigned to this city...and before you mention ASBOs not all ASBOs are chavs :P If we're going on the basis of criminal convictions then Craig is being a little facetious and it actually IS a prison of sorts
August 6, 200915 yr You still have yet to answer how the 'chavs' would be assigned to this city...and before you mention ASBOs not all ASBOs are chavs :P If we're going on the basis of criminal convictions then Craig is being a little facetious and it actually IS a prison of sorts  Certain cities are pretty much already "Chav City"... Have you actually been to Paisley????? Deary me, absolutely horrific.....
August 6, 200915 yr I can't say I have been to Paisley, but I did have to sleep in a graveyard in Darlington a few weeks ago, which was a fairly unsettling experience for more reasons than the obvious
