A review from The Guardian <_<

Robbie Williams's single Bodies: in perfect shape ! There's a lot riding on the first release from Robbie Williams's new album Reality Killed the Video Star. We put it through its paces

Last time Robbie Williams released a single it was March 2007. The failure of She's Madonna to get into the UK top 20 ended an album campaign for Rudebox, a record marked by an air of underachievement. Two and a half years on, Williams is back with new single Bodies, which was played on Radio 1 for the first time this morning. The stakes are significantly above average.

Produced by Trevor Horn, Bodies seems to have been grown in a jar as some kind of ideal of a Robbie Williams pop single. Every element has been honed for optimum performance. The faux-rock twanging guitars at the beginning. The pop cultural box-ticking in the lyrics ("all we ever wanted was to look good naked"). The magical way he can make a bland chorus sound more engaging by the power of his backstory alone. Bodies is significantly better than Lovelight, but not as good as No Regrets. And there's a definite whiff of Mr Brightside by the Killers in the melody.

It's an odd feeling having Robbie back in the world; the kind of uncomfortable reassurance of seeing a family member you never really got on with, or doing poppers at a festival. It makes you feel a bit sick, but you kind of like it.

Those big questions, then. Whose are the bodies in question !Has this been timed in perfect Machiavellian fashion to drop at the exact moment that we lose Oasis? And is it just me, or is that a sample from Sadeness by Enigma at the beginning?

So Bodies, then. What gives !

:)

but not as good as No Regrets.

There are few RW songs that are :P

And there's a definite whiff of Mr Brightside by the Killers

WTF? No there's not, that's so stupid. <_<

Yet more inccorrect statements from the media. She's Madge got to #16 in the UK which is good for a third single. I recall the 3rd single from TT's album going to #17 so it is a pointless comment to make and irrelivent. Besides She's Madonna was a huge hit in Europe, hitting #1 in 8 countries and topping the Europe charts for weeks and weeks.

I've merged both Bodies threads now.

Fans divided over Robbie single

Robbie Williams' single has received mixed reviews

Robbie Williams' comeback single provoked extreme reactions when it received mass air play on Friday, although, love it or not, the song is tipped to head straight to No 1.

Many of the singer's fans hailed Bodies as a triumph, while the tune received a more lukewarm response from other quarters.

Over a chunky, fuzzy bassline, Robbie raps lines like "Jesus didn't die for me" and "Bodies in the bodhi tree, bodies making chemistry," before building to a euphoric chorus, reminiscent of past hit Feel, backed by a string section.

Writing on his blog, the 35-year-old said: "The response I'm getting for Bodies from people has been really encouraging... It all seems to be very genuine, too. I didn't expect to be welcomed back with such enthusiasm."

Ladbrokes have put the single at 1/2 to go straight in at No 1. The bookies have also chalked up the Stoke-born singer at 20/1 to provide this year's Christmas chart-topper.

But the single did not go down so well with Absolute Radio listeners.

Breakfast Show DJ Christian O'Connell also played the single on Friday morning, and said: "I think it's a good pop song but the majority of our listeners texted in to say no to playing Robbie."

Capital FM presenter Lisa Snowdon, who also played the song on her show, said: "He's got these songs that grow on you. Before you know it, it's in your head and you're singing it...

"The sound is really good. It always takes a bit of getting used to when you start a new sound because it's a little bit electronic."

How annoying when I see the words " Robbie's Come Back "

He had a break, so what! He's been working his ass of for so long, just needed some time to find his true love.

HUGE promotion is what's needed, every time I turn the TV or radio on I wanna hear Robbie related talking.

OMG I freaking LOVE it!!!! I've played it about 20 times so far!

:yahoo:

Anyone got a link to a mp3 version :teresa: If so..could you PM me please!

The media would love him to fail though. They're going to make a big deal out of it whatever though which means more false factoids. I despise people who get information about song positions and such wrong whatever the artist! It doesn't take much to 'Google'. Especially when you publish it in actual newspapers and such

I came to say how good the song is though! It sounds so mixed up to me which actually works really well. The big epic chorus and the almost reggae parts that creep in some times. Plus the whole electro, dark, Depeche Mode vibe and of course the lyrics are quite hilarious.

I'm sure it'll grow on me more.

Grami! You hate Robbie! :o :o :o

I agree with you about the Media. Shoddy journalism really irritates me.

Glad to see people are liking this so much. :D Alot of people are saying it sounds like both Depeche Mode and Ian Brown, neither of which are bad things for a song :smoke:
