Posted August 9, 200915 yr The Verve 'split up for third time' Sunday, August 9 2009, 20:46 BST Digitalspy.com By Anisa Kadri The Verve have reportedly split up for the third time. Band members Simon Jones and Nick McCabe have allegedly not spoken to lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft since performing at the V Festival in August last year. A source told the Sunday Mirror: "As far as Nick and Simon are concerned The Verve no longer exists. "They think Richard was just using the reunion as a vehicle to get his solo career on track." Ashcroft had previously claimed that he would not be part of The Verve if guitarist McCabe continued to drink. Despite McCabe having now quit drinking, the relationship between the two, and between Jones and Ashcroft, has soured. The source said: "There have been too many problems to put behind them. If Richard came back with cap in hand they’d tell him to f*** off." Jones and McCabe have since formed new band The Black Ships. If true are you surprised by this news, or could you not care either way?
August 9, 200915 yr no shock...Love Is Noise was good but from what else I heard from Forth, it was a waste of time of a comeback for anything other than nostalgia
August 9, 200915 yr I am saddened by this... I really enjoyed Forth, I guess it was inevitable though.
August 9, 200915 yr In their heyday they were brilliant, I'm not really surprised about the split, Forth was never inspring like Urban Hymns, but Love Is Noise is the best track on the album to be honest, funny enough I only have played the album once or twice
August 9, 200915 yr Not surprised at all... I always thought the "reunion" seemed a bit forced.... And tbh, I was never really that big a fan of The Verve after their second album anyway - 'A Northern Soul' and 'Storm in Heaven' were colossal records... Urban Hymns was a huge disappointment to me..... It just seemed so lazy.....
August 9, 200915 yr tbh the reunion has been crap, a very average album, and a epicly boring live show.
August 10, 200915 yr Really couldn't care less - actually, it's a good thing...who really ever wants to hear that infernal Bittersweet Symphony string sample ever again? Never enjoyed Verve ever really - always found them way behind everyone else around the time of "A Storm in Heaven" and "A Northern Soul" and they were just excruciatingly boring with "Urban Hymns". Never heard "Forth" and wouldn't want to.

Never heard "Forth" and wouldn't want to. Well, fair enough, I guess you could argue that Verve were a bit lagging behind the likes of Spacemen 3/Spiritualized/The Boo Radleys, etc, who were releasing these sorts of atmospheric/space rock albums years before Verve dropped "Storm In Heaven" on us... But I still say that "Storm In Heaven" is a damn good record....

September 9, 200915 yr Urban Hymns may have done amazing but in hindsight they've never been together successfully for a long period of time, they're like one of the more successful projects for Richard rather than a band in it's own right.
September 10, 200915 yr "one of the more successful projects for Richard" I've never heard anything more ridiculous in my life.
September 10, 200915 yr He obviously knows what he's talking about seeing as he was 4 when Urban Hymns was released. Actually Urban Hymns was originally intended to be an Ashcroft solo album until he got the jitters. Anyway I am fed up with people knocking it. Yes it is not a perfect album by any means but it has got some of my favourite Verve songs on it. And anybody who thinks they were a boring band, go listen to A Northen Soul or the early singles especially Gravity Grave (one of the finest singles of the early 90s). Oh and knock Forth all you like, that one really is boring.
September 10, 200915 yr Good riddance, although it means still having to hear that stolen-from-the Rolling Stones-bassline and painful violin-intro that sounds like a mouse being trodden on EVERY time England play on ITV. The drums in that song sound like someone lightly banging a hammer. Seen them in Blackpool and Ashcroft was drunk like a fart, lost all respect for them ever since. September 12, 200915 yr I actually really liked "Love Is Noise" I thought it was great me too - easily one of the best singles of that year. And as for 'boring live shows'...err... I suggest a look at their incredible Glastonbury closing performance from that year.... only someone with their ears surgically sealed could call that 'boring' Booooring album, though.
