December 22, 200915 yr I agree with much of what's in this article -_- From http://www.gear4music.com/news/article/NME...r/PG/2009-12-22 NME editor criticises X Factor Posted on 22nd Dec 2009 22:00 NME editor Krissi Murison has accused the X Factor of becoming a corporate platform. Huge stars such as bass guitar legend Paul McCartney may be overshadowing the contestants by appearing on The X Factor, one music industry figure has suggested. According to Krissi Murison, the new editor of NME magazine, Simon Cowell believes the ITV1 programme can change people's lives. However, she told the Scotsman that it is actually a corporate platform rather than a leg-up to aspiring artists. This, she said, is apparent in the fact that stars such as Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston are very keen to go on the show. Queen's electric guitar player and drummer Brian May and Roger Taylor also appeared on the most recent series, as did singer George Michael. Ms Murison added that many of the artists now regarded as music legends, such as David Bowie, would never have succeeded if they had come up through The X Factor. "He'd have been voted off in the first round for being weird," she said. "It scares me how we're eroding the mystique of the pop star."
December 22, 200915 yr From http://www.rte.ie/arts/2009/1217/murso.html Olly Murs talks about 'pal' Robbie Olly Murs says Robbie Williams is his new best pal - and has even asked him over to play football at his US mansion. Olly, 25, became friends with the ex-Take That idol as they teamed up for their memorable  'X Factor' duet. The Sun reports that since then Robbie has bombarded Olly with texts and calls - including an invitation to play on the private soccer pitch installed in his Los Angeles garden. And Manchester United fan Olly, who missed out to Joe McElderry in the ITV talent show's final, is also signed up to play in next year's Soccer Aid with Williams at Old Trafford. He said: "Robbie's a really good mate of mine now. Great lad - we just clicked straight away. "He rang me and told me he was gutted I didn't win, but that he wishes me all the best. "He wants me to go to his house in LA after the X Factor tour. He's got a football pitch in his garden and wants me to come over and play football with him. "He's invited me to Soccer Aid as well, which I'm really chuffed about. I'm living the boyhood dream - I'm going to play at Old Trafford and I'm a massive Man Utd fan. Robbie was amazing to work with and it's been an absolute pleasure." Olly's duet with 35-year-old Robbie got him through to the second stage of last weekend's X Factor final, where he was ultimately pipped  by Geordie Joe. While thrilled for his 18-year-old rival, Olly admits he is devastated that he didn't get a chance to top the Christmas charts. With Joe's single The Climb battling for the top spot, Olly said: "The song's brilliant :manson: - and fitting for someone born of the show. "Listen, I was on The X Factor to win it and I wanted to have that single as my single. (Liar!) I wanted to get the Christmas Number One - I might never get another chance." :D
December 22, 200915 yr X Factor' final 'may be staged week earlier' From http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/xfactor/news/a...ek-earlier.html Tuesday, December 22 2009, 09:41 GMT By David Balls, Music Reporter 'X Factor' final 'may be staged week earlier' The X Factor final may be staged a week early next year to avoid another battle for the Christmas number one, according to reports. Show producers are reportedly considering an earlier final to allow the winner's song a better chance of making it to the top of the charts. This year's winner Joe McElderry reached number two with his single 'The Climb', losing out to Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name', which was the subject of a Facebook campaign to stop the X Factor winner getting to the top. "If a show that gets 19 million viewers can't muster enough support to beat an online campaign of music snobs, then maybe there is no point aiming for a Christmas number one next year," a source told The Sun. Meanwhile, judge Simon Cowell is reportedly determined to make next year's X Factor "bigger and better" and is said to be eager to recruit Robbie Williams as a fifth judge.
