Robbie Williams 'nervous not drunk' during comeback performance

By Cameron Adam

BRITISH pop star Robbie Williams has lashed out at criticism of his comeback performance on UK TV show The X Factor.

Viewers questioned Williams' "wide-eyed" and "erratic" appearance of his new single Bodies last weekend.

"I know people are alluding to the fact I may have been high on something but I can only say I wasn't because I wasn't," Williams said.

"Unless someone spiked my drink and I would have noticed - I know what various drugs feel like. It's the same as the deer in the headlight, the deer's not on anything other than fear. I'd had a few coffees before I went on, that's all."

Williams revealed he was crippled with nerves at his first major TV appearance in three years playing to 14 million people.

"The veil is finally falling," Williams said. "I'm always nervous, but in the past I've been able to look cocksure through the nerves. I'm not sure if I'm able to mask it anymore.

"I got on there and had a bit of a wobble. It was overwhelming, the love in the room was palpable but I just didn't know what to do with my arms. I didn't feel like the seasoned pro I am, it just felt a bit alien.

"I maybe should have done a few other TV shows before I did that big one. In the script people have written for me there's a lot expected of me. And I expect a lot of myself. One of those things is to look natural. At the minute it just feels a bit unnatural."

Williams said stagefright means he will not tour new album Reality Killed the Video Star.

His last world tour, which ended in Melbourne in 2006, led to Williams going into rehab for prescription pill addiction the following year.

"It was a bad year all round really," Williams says of his nine month world tour. "Before I went into rehab I was very close to death. It's getting more scary since people have been popping their clogs. I can absolutely relate to Michael Jackson or Heath Ledger."

Williams' next major TV performance will be playing Bodies at the ARIAs on November 26.

The singer will be accompanied by girlfriend Ayda Field, and is prepared to put his music career on the back burner to start a family with the US actor.

"I don't know where I stand yet on touring. It's very early days. I've got a missus now, I'm loved up, we're thinking about babies, that'll be coming soon. It depends if they get a daddy who's always on tour or a daddy's who's in the house. It all depends on the next couple of months. I'll see how the ARIAs feel. If it's not taking my fancy anymore it's not taking my fancy."

Williams said he and Field have discussed eventually moving to the Australian outback.

"The missus and I really dig it down there and could possibly be a place we end up. She had a feeling about us living in the outback.

"Coming down to the ARIAs, it's going to be a big gig. Obviously I put a lot of pressure on myself because I'm an international worrier, so I'm not looking forward to the worry, I'm looking forward to getting it done and seeing a few things with the wife."

Watching Whitney tonight, I think she actually did Rob a favour I think and proved he wasnt on anything but adrenalin. She was def on something or drunk. Whitney sang about 40% of the song  She spent more time posing than singing. It really goes to show, take all of those dancers away, and the backing track, then she wouldnt be able to take all those breaks between even small portion of time she actually sang. I am sorry but anyone who thinks she was better than Rob's performance last week is delusional. He did it on his own with no distractions, no dancers and no backing track doing all the work. Saying that though, Whitney is a legend and overall gave a much better performance than I was expecting. She wont get the negetive press like Rob, because she is American. They prob wont bother. Also, I loved the way she just basically said all the contestants were crap. Not in those words but that is what she meant.

Cheryl was good suprisingly, but still would've been nothing without all the dancers. And next week Westlife are on

ROBBIE’S FINAL BID

News Of The World

Robbie Williams is in talks to make a shock return to X Factor after his disastrous comeback performance in October.

The superstar is locked in secret discussions with show bosses about appearing on next week’s final – expected to be watched by 20 million viewers.

Robbie, 35, blamed his panned previous appearance on the show on being “thrown off his stride” by the doors not opening properly as he performed new single Bodies. He has since lost out in the singles and album charts and show insiders say he is keen to join George Michael and Sir Paul McCartney on final night in the hope it will put his career back on track.

One said: “Robbie wants to put things right. He’s hoping he’ll get to sing with Olly.”

Typical NOTW ignorance saying he needs to put his career back on track. His album is #1 in Europe for a 3rd week and was the world #1, same with Bodies

I wouldnt actually be suprised if this actually happened though and Rob did duet with Olly seeing how much he liked him. They would prob do Angels together. Cant see Macca doing it though

Id love him to perform YKM though, then it would go top 5

I read on Digital Spy the 3 duet people were going to be Macca, George Michael and Chris Martin
Cant see Macca doing it and I dont think he should tbh. Chris Martin to sing the Scientist with Stacy, George to do Dont Let The Sun go down on me with Joe and prob Rob and Olly to do Angels. That would be fine :D

Macca might do it I think. Olly has sung a couple of Beatles numbers hasn't he?

I agree with the others though

Chris Martin = Stacey

Georgie = Joe

Odds on

There are all sorts of rumours. The latest being Macca will do his MJ duet of 'Say Say Say with Joe :o Olly with Rob, no song rumours though and George with Stacey :o

Xpose here in Ireland said they confirmed the official duets of Macca, George, Robbie and Michael Buble. Don't know why there is 4 though, what will Buble do? ::lol:

Also Leona will be back on yet again to perform her latest single

Say Say Say should well and truly scupper the Child Joe's chances

Maybe Mr Bubble is dueting with Cheryl Cole. He'll need to sing her part as well of course. -_-

Anyway, I'm off out on Saturday night so I don't care. <_<

Yes !!! Robbies management kicked him to one side....

can you really see Robbie doing this again

Hey, nothing would surprise me

Maybe he's just appearing to sing YKM rather than duetting with a finalist?

Robbie is X-rated By 3am 8/12/2009

HE'S BACK ON FACTOR WITH THESE THREE

His last X Factor appearance was a sweat-soaked shambles... with his bug-eyed dance routine even prompting whispers he was off his head on drugs.

But full credit to Robbie Williams - he's going back on the show this weekend.

And he had better raise his game this time round because he is in mighty fine company.

Sir Paul McCartney, George Michael and Michael Buble have all agreed to appear as well.

Williams is lined up to duet with Olly Murs, Buble will perform alongside Stacey Solomon and George Michael will sing with Joe McElderry.

Beatles legend Sir Paul will then perform a solo number on Sunday night.

The A-listers are expected to attract an audience of over 20 million and a show source said: "In previous years we have had some great acts but nothing beats having FOUR of the great male solo acts in one weekend. This has all the makings of the biggest X Factor show ever. It will be the only thing people will be talking about at work on Monday."

Speaking on Sunday night's The Xtra Factor, Simon Cowell confirmed the acts would perform duets but refused to identify their partners.

Robbie's return is a massive coup for the show after he was panned in October for his performance of his single Bodies.

He shocked audiences with his jittery rhythm-free routine and hyperactive interview with Dermot O'Leary. However he blamed nerves and said: "I'd had a few coffees before I went on, that's all." And he is said to be keen to go back on the show to give Essex boy Olly a chance of winning. A pal said: "Robbie is Olly's hero and it's great he's back again to finish where he left off."

Michael Buble has been on several times before, and even helped Leon Jackson win three years ago.

But Cowell's ability to coax reclusive George Michael on to the show is a real surprise. A source added: "Cowell pulled that one out of the bag. George jumped at the chance to go on. He's a huge fan and was chuffed with the Wham and George Michael week."

Lads, let battle commence...
