This game = the exact reason Mike Dean should not be allowed to referee the Premiership. Absolute joke.
Arsenal are drawing :nono:  if they dont win this they can kiss goodbye to the premiere league :(

^ They won 1-0 against Wolves in the end. I would have expected a more convincing scoreline earlier in the season, but given Wolves recent form I am not surprised by the narrow margin of the victory from the Emirates.

Tottenham got beaten by Sunderland. Got a feeling that a regular of this thread might be doing imaginary celebratory cartwheels at some point. :cheer: Makes the fight for fourth place interesting and hopefully ensures Sunderland's survival in the Premier League.

Cartwheels? I barely had enough energy left to make it home after that

What a match though, right up there with the best i've been to. We're 11 points clear of the drop zone now, I think I can safely say we've ensured another season in the Prem. It's all about finishing as high up the table as we can now.

Next 3 are Wet Spam (A), Burnley (H) and Hull (A), hoping for at least 4 points - no way we're going to win all 3 but so long as we beat Burnley at home i'll be reasonably happy.

Well, I did say imaginary. Best of luck with your team.

Congratulations to Newcastle on getting promoted. I wonder how long they will stay up for this time? Any ideas on this?

Poor Peterborough though. Just one season up.

As for Carlisle, I was expecting a bad result against Charlton. According to the match report, they were confined to 1-0, it could have been a heavier defeat than that. Next fixture is away to Brighton for Carlisle.

Right, i'll try to be as unbiased as possible with this...

I think they've got a lot of work on to stay up. They have a good Championship squad, but they'll need to add to it in order to stay up (Especially up front, Ameobi, Best and Carroll won't get them the goals they need). But of course this all comes down to whether or not Ashley puts his hands in his pockets and gives them the money to strengthen.

Another factor is who will be their manager next season. Do they replace Hughton who's done a good job under difficult circumstances but wouldn't attract the type of player they need, or do they gamble on a bigger name who may be able to bring in players of a higher calibre?

I think the thing with Newcastle's season this season is that it's been very much like the one we had in the Championship under Keane. We ground out results and picked up points without ever playing particularly well. A few Newcastle fans i've seen have berated Hughton for his very cautious, defensive approach, and while it's got them back to the Premier League it's unlikely their defence will be able to cope with such pressure in the Prem and they'll end up leaking goals left, right and centre.

It's a big summer for Newcastle, and while it's obviously far too early to predict how they'll perform, wholesale changes will have to be made if they're wanting to stay up imo.

Putting my Sunderland fan hat back on: I don't care if they go down or not, so long as we hammer the bastards at home and at SJP :funky:

Newcastle should stay up, probably around 15th. West Brom will probably continue to yo-yo. Whoever goes up will be garbage in the Premiership. Considering we've been the third best team of the season we have about 3 players who are what I'd call Premiership quality. When we had Shorey he was only here for a handful of games but you could tell he was a Premiership player, he was leagues above everyone else in the team.

I won't be at all fussed if we have a 3rd play-off heartache, the teams coming down have no quality and we have money so another summer of strengthening we'll rightly be clear favourite for the title.

Newcastle should stay up, probably around 15th.

With their current squad, if nobody was added/sold? No chance. Not enough goals, not enough in midfield, gaps in defence. Like I said, depends how much money they get to spend in the summer (If any).

They'd be lucky to finish 17th. They need to add quality to their squad or they've not got a hope in hell.

Agreed about West Brom and whoever else goes up, mind.

The bottom of the Premier League at the moment really is pretty dire though. Bolton, West Ham, Wigan, Wolves, Burnley - two of those will go down, but the others are still relatively weak. I'm not sure how well they'll be able to strenghten, and that's without them losing some of their best players.

Not sure how well Newcastle will do. Probably be involved in the relegation scrap as there is a bit of quality in their team, just not a lot. Not sure about Houghton, but I guess next year will be his real test. I think Newcastle's off-field problems and the Management issues really effected them when they were in the Premier League. Now the wind seems to have blown down a little and they've got settled they seem a lot better. Not sure what they'll be like next year mind, still pretty undecided. It's just a case of finding the right balance and getting soem good quality bargins in. I mean look what McLeish has acheieved with Birmingham, or even Hodgson has with Fulham. Can be done, but you've got to be a good manager to do it. Houghton may not fit that bill.

Exactly. The squad Newcastle have now is better than the squad Birmingham had a year ago. Birmingham have added what, 4/5 signings to their starting line-up. A goalkeeper, two Championship defenders, a midfielder who hardly set himself alight in his previous stint in the Premier league and a striker who's not exactly been a massive success. I'd also add Blackburn and Stoke to your list, they're not as bad as those teams but they're never going to be anything more than mid-table and could easily slip downwards...

Only 2 games in the Prem today, due to the FA Cup and Europe, big day for the teams at the bottom of the Prem :o

I should be at Posh what with having a season ticket, but I woke up not feeling great, so I've given it a miss. Hopefully we can pick up at least a point, apparently the lowest points record in the division is 37 points, we're hoping to beat that really although it'll be tough. Ordered my season ticket for next season the other day, hope we can get off to a good start under Johnson in League One and can give it a real go at getting back up :D

RFC......... what's going on with Boyd at Forest? Apparently a Posh fan saw him in town a few days back and asked him how it's going, and he didn't seem too happy about it all really. Seems a bit of a waste that we could have given it a real go at staying up, but instead loaned Boyd to Forest who haven't played him much.

A win for Carlisle away at Brighton. Bit of a surprise as Brighton have improved their form as of late.

Stockport are relegated back to League 2. That is, if they survive. If they start next season in administration, they could be expelled from the League. Hope it doesn't come to that as I used to live near Stockport nearly 20 years ago, so I do have a soft spot for them.

Major upsets in League 2. :o Rochdale, the league leaders thumped 5-0 by Torquay who are not quite safe from the trap door yet. Also a 5-2 victory for Cheltenham over Bury who were at one time in the automatic promotion spots. :o Lincoln beat Bournemouth 2-1 in a bit of an upset there and Grimsby keep the pressure on with a 1-0 win over Hereford. Morecambe also beat Rotherham, which is not surprising in one sense and is in another. Morecambe's home form has been good and Rotherham were at one point, also in the automatic promotion places. Struggling to maintain their place there.

Today was the first time I've caught a glimpse of him as he came on for the last 10 minute plus 6 minutes injury time!

He started the first three games when he came here, we won one in the last minute and lost the other two. After that we were at home to Peterbrough so he was ineligible, we won that and then understandbly made only one (enforced) change at left back for the next game which we also won. He started against Bristol City last Saturday but was one of a few changes four our game two days later. I'm a bit disappointed he hasn't played more but it seems to have spurred Nathan Tyson on a bit, the last three games has easily been his best of the season and he's now keeping him out of the team. Sod's law really. I work with a Posh fan and he's disappointed he's not played as much. He certainly looked good when he came on today and almost scored within 30 seconds of coming on, but again Tyson was one of our best players again.

BTW, when we went down Rotherham had only 29 points.

20 Brighton 46 7 7 9 24 29 6 5 12 16 36 -25 51

21 Crewe 46 6 8 9 37 38 6 6 11 29 48 -20 50

22 Gillingham 46 10 6 7 22 23 2 8 13 23 43 -21 50

23 Nottm Forest 46 7 10 6 26 28 2 7 14 16 38 -24 44

24 Rotherham 46 2 7 14 17 34 3 7 13 18 35 -34 29

Anyway, West Brom confirmed their promotion to the Premier League with a 3-2 win at Doncaster. Forest's 3-0 win means they can't finish lower than 5th and need to lose their remaining three games whilst Leicester win theirs to have the home leg first.

If we play like we did in the second half today, then we'll beat anyone. If we play like we did in the first half, we'll be fortunate to avoid defeat against anyone. Big game at Blackpool next week, really don't want them in there. Please Swansea, win a game!

The big result of the day (was of course) in Division 1 with Swindon Town losing at Colchester so meaning they fall from 2nd to 4th behind Millwall & Leeds Utd.
POMPEY! :D

Indeed Up Pompey!

But it's surely game over for 4th place and ECL football 2010-11 for Liverpool. :(

Barring some major miracle, yep, unfortunately. I just hope over the summer we can get some investment, and then hopefully progress next season.
