Posted June 27, 200619 yr Match Thread This is the game I'm waiting for, Portugal have 4 key players out of action, but Figo is playing, I don't think Figo is a problem, geting too old, runs out of steam, I think England have got it in the bag to go all the way now. Depends on the outcome of the French and the Brazilian match, I think we are better suited to play the French, but in football anything could happen.
June 27, 200619 yr This match in the current England's side & Sven's glass ceiling - against old nemesis Phil Scolari - if we get through this then I truly believe we are more than capable of winning come July 9th. We do stand a good chance with (in particular Deco) suspended. However I fear their cheating gamesmanship with the diving Ronaldo & the headbutting Figo could lead us to heartbreak for the 3rd time. But I predict England 3-2 Portugal aet.
June 27, 200619 yr I want England to win 3-1 and I think its possibile if England peak in that game and play well as a team, but I don't think it will that easy. I think England will win 1-0 aet.
June 27, 200619 yr Judging by the lacklustre standard that England have played so far.. I think it'll be a 1-1 draw & Portugal will win on penalties. If England want to win they need to play much better..simple as that. :)

If England want to win they need to play much better..simple as that. :) Thank you so much for saying that!!! After seeing what everyone else had posted I was beginning to think I'd been watching a different England side over the last few weeks! ^_^ I reckon 2-1 Portugal in normal time.
June 28, 200619 yr England have just done enough so far. I think Spain and Czech Republic have show it's better to start poorly than well as you can't keep it up. England should win!
June 28, 200619 yr England wont win. Portugal are a much stronger side (yes, even without Deco) and they've played all their games more convincingly than England. Portugal 2-0 England
June 28, 200619 yr England wont win. Portugal are a much stronger side (yes, even without Deco) and they've played all their games more convincingly than England. Portugal 2-0 England That certainley isn't true. England are a stronger side but we have a dodgy manager. We should have beaten them in the euro's but a dodgy ref disallowed our goal  .
June 28, 200619 yr Humm, I see this going to penalites myself after being 1-1 or 0-0 aet, and with penalties it could really go either way.
June 29, 200619 yr Thank you so much for saying that!!! After seeing what everyone else had posted I was beginning to think I'd been watching a different England side over the last few weeks! ^_^ I reckon 2-1 Portugal in normal time. Agree with you both. England's performances have been really poor in this tournament & they'll have to up their game if they are to progress any further.
July 1, 200619 yr I think that's pushing the boat out a bit Ozzy! It'll be a close game but I think we should win...
July 1, 200619 yr I think that's pushing the boat out a bit Ozzy! It'll be a close game but I think we should win... hmmm Portugal have a few key players out or very unfit and England have spent the entire tournament in 2nd gear so I really think will raise game today and beat Portugal pretty comfortably
July 1, 200619 yr oh this should be a good day it's lovely and hot outside :). Now I'm going with a 2-1 england win. I just feel that it's now or never to raise the game for england. COME ON!
July 1, 200619 yr From BBC Sport. Thousands of England fans have gathered in Gelsenkirchen ahead of the World Cup quarter-final match against Portugal. It is believed 80,000 are in the city but only 30,000 will get to see the 1600 BST game to be played under a closed roof at the AufShchalke Arena. Frank Lampard and Gary Neville will both start for England after shaking off injuries. Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo is facing a race against time to recover from an injured thigh. England (probable): Robinson, Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, A Cole, Beckham, Lampard, Hargreaves, Gerrard, J Cole, Rooney. Portugal (probable): Ricardo, Miguel, Carvalho, Meira, Valente, Petit, Maniche, Sabrosa, Figo, Ronaldo, Pauleta. Referee: Horacio Elizondo (Argentina) :( So the ref is not exactly neutral is he?
July 1, 200619 yr hopefully there won't be as many red cards as in the holland - portugal. that was ridiculous. i predict England to win 2-1
July 1, 200619 yr Author An Argentinian ref, oh great, we didn't need that after their brawl against the Germans yesterday
July 1, 200619 yr What is the beneift of playing Hargreaves?. The Portugease go down at the slightest touch, and Hargreaves is not afraid to go in for a ackle and the Portugease go down like they been shot  . Both defences look extremley skakey and Ferdinand can be a little too calm for my liking sometimes. England should bring on Crouch at some stage in the game.
