1979, Herb Alpert started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Rise', giving the co founder of A&M records his second US No.1. It made No.13 in the UK.

1979, The Eagles started a nine week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'The Long Run', the bands fourth US No.1.

oh dear..... lol

Rise was a good song - I had the 12" on clear vinyl. The Eagles album was less impressive but it did have a couple of decent songs on it.

new entries

29 - Eton Rifles JAM .......... one of their best and most recognised tracks ...good stuff!

32 - Still COMMODORES ..... slushy soul... ok i guess.

42 - Knocked It Off B.A. ROBERTSON .... never liked this joke of a bloke... silly song.

45 - Tryouts For The Human Race SPARKS ..dunno this

46 - Bird Song LENE LOVICH ... track of the week! superb track!

47 - If You Remember Me CHRIS THOMPSON ...dunno this

48 - Spooky ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION .... is this the 'spooky' from '68?

50 - Can't Get Enough Of Your Love DARTS ... dunno this either...

Tryouts For The Human Race by Sparks was OK, similar in sound to Number One Song In Heaven and Beat The Clock but for the general public they had obviously grown a bit bored of that sound. I think Sparks changed their sound once more a year or two later as the hits once again dried up.

If You Remember Me by Chris Thompson was a ballad that was featured in a movie called The Champ. Chris Thompson had just left Manfred Mann's Earth Band after being lead vocalist since the mid 70s.

Spooky is indeed the same song that The Classics IV released in 1968.

I agree with you about Bird Song - it's a brilliant song!
