It was always "Angel". Not ashamed to say, I still own 20 Fantastic Hits (the Arcade comp), and 20 Dynamic Hits (the K-Tel comp). Never was a fan, myself. A case of being in the right place at the right time, me thinks! :teresa: Robbie will top the pre-orders on albums, next week. Though, he says he will never do a live concert again, because of stagefright. There we were at the Leeds Festival last week, and that poor girl got her head stuck down the loo. She was down there, for 20 minutes after she dropped her handbag and mobile. She became the laughing stock of the week, after her "mates", put it all over Facebook...Time to change friends, love! ;) Remember, never flush a dead parrot down the loo, because they breed in the sewers, you know! Someone was on about the pre-orders for JLS...Well I haven`t yet got any info, on the pre-orders for the album. The new single will be released on 2nd Nov, and the album on the 9th Nov. It will probably show up next week. Slightly different outlook today, because I need to rush. September 4, 200915 yr Thanks Dave 20 23 TOO BUSY THINKING ABOUT MY BABY - MARDI GRAS...A cover for Shrove Tuesday! You may probably never hear this version ever I've got it on a K-Tel comp :kink: They were a French group, and competed at the same time with a cover by perrenial 60s-70s no-hoper Gene Latter, and the sales ended up being split, so neither version was big... Madonna preorder higher than Cliff. :o But Porcupine Tree above both
September 4, 200915 yr Cribs #3 on physicals :o its not even in the official top 40 chart, that can't be right, unless physicals are very low.
September 4, 200915 yr Madonna and mika doing well on pre orders. Not good for mini viva though. I think they might only scrape top ten.
September 4, 200915 yr But Porcupine Tree above both  I was referring to singles, but a good point there. :o Cribs #3 on physicals :o its not even in the official top 40 chart, that can't be right, unless physicals are very low. How can The Prodigy be today's mids #36 if it is #10 physical + top 110 and top 200 on iTunes, yet The Cribs are #3 physical and nowhere? Baffling.
September 4, 200915 yr How can The Prodigy be today's mids #36 if it is #10 physical + top 110 and top 200 on iTunes, yet The Cribs are #3 physical and nowhere? Baffling. And Booty Luv, something does not add up,  And Cribs is above them both
September 4, 200915 yr WOW Prodigy only number 10 on physicals, outside the top 100 on iTunes but still top 40 combined. This must be a miracle (or some kind of extra sales from their website maybe?)
September 4, 200915 yr Madonna and mika doing well on pre orders. Not good for mini viva though. I think they might only scrape top ten. IMHO that'd be OK, the Saturdays started out by peaking at #8. If they could do that, then given a year they could be the second (third?) biggest girl group in the country...)
September 4, 200915 yr Author Well B-rye so rightly points out the fact that Madonna is ahead of Cliff on the single pre-orders. Meaning the glamorous granny vs the grandaddy...both will fight for a top 5 place, on Sunday 20th Sept. Meantime, here comes the big song finish. September 4, 200915 yr Dave = A Beatle hater. :o I'm shocked. The Beatles changed music in just over 7 years recording together (Love Me Do June 6th 1962 to I Want You (She's So Heavy) Aug 20th 1969), so that up until the late 1980s Stock Aitken & Waterman era Pop Acts were largely responsible for creating their own music, when beforehand they were merely puppets of svengalis recording other people's material. "Before The Beatles there was nothing" Paul Weller (© NME 1979) This is why I hated Stock Aitken & Waterman & I hate Simon Cowell; Louis Walsh & whatever $h!t comes out of UK's X-Factor with a passion, because music should be about art & creativity and not formulaic lowest common denominator record sales.
September 4, 200915 yr Thanks Dave :) Sucks for Dolly Rockers :snif: Tbh those KOL songs really don't need to be back in the chart, but at least Little Boots is kinda holding her own...
September 4, 200915 yr tbh I can't stand many Beatles songs. They were just there when no one else was tbh. Rolling Stones however are amazing.

I was too much of a BBC boy, back then! Strange enough, as the BBC were backward with music in the 60s...Both the Beatles and Rolling Stones early hits were never even featured on the new release spots on "Pick Of The Pops!" As Derek Chinnery produced the show, back then. I was very much built on the easy listening side of things...heading out of the Light Programme, and the original sound of Radio 2. Though things would have been very different without the Fab Four. Saying that though, during those "Flower Power" heady days of the 60s, the biggest sellers of 1967...all came from easy listening artists, and the likes of Englebert Humperdinck/Frankie Vaughan/Tom Jones. So, I do think we would have got through the decade somehow. I mean the Beatles practically smashed the careers of Joe Brown/Marty Wilde/Lonnie Donegan to bits...but the Cliff kept going. The Beatles took Britain to America though, and gave them the the whole top 5 in the States in a week in 1964. Coincidently on the 14th March 1964, the whole of the UK Top Ten was made up, of entire British artists. It was only Gene Pitney, that kept that feat away from the top 15. The Beatles...You either love them, or loathe them. The plus side to not having the Beatles would mean no Cilla Black! :yahoo:
September 4, 200915 yr tbh I can't stand many Beatles songs. They were just there when no one else was tbh. Rolling Stones however are amazing. :o No one else was doing what The Beatles did before they did it. That is why they are rightly regarded as the most important act in musical history whether you like them or not. 1.1 Billion sales for just over 7 years recording together and just over 9 hours worth of recorded music is nothing short of phenomenal. Too many Brits today completely fail to realise that without the Beatles, British music would be nowhere near as important as it is regarded today, as from 1940 - 1963 the total number of British number ones in America: 3; yet the Beatles had between 1964 - 1970 20 US #1 hit singles. That is why today the world takes an interest in the next big thing to come from the UK music scene. All The Beatles singles were original Lennon/McCartney compositions (with the one exception of the other half of Come Together - George Harrison's Something). As for The Rolling Stones their first five singles were covers (Chuck Berry's Come On; Lennon/McCartney's  I Wanna Be Your Man; Buddy Holly & The Crickets' Not Fade Away; Bobby Womack's It's All Over Now & Willie Dixon's Little Red Rooster); their first single written by Jagger & Richards was "The Last Time" early in 1965; by which time The Beatles had already scored 6 UK#1s. The Rolling Stones were a fantastic band; but their last great album was 1972's Exile On Main Street; and their last very good album was 1978's Some Girls. Nowadays they are reminder of what U2 will be in 10 years time. Sure, a great live act who can put some new rock acts to shame with a fantastic back catalogue; but their glory days are a long long way behind them.
September 4, 200915 yr Wow, selling 80k for the first week and then falling to #4... :) Dizzee hasn't got great staying power for the second time: Bonkers fell down pretty quickly for its first week's sales too.

I do hope that you do include "Please Please Me" in the #1 frame...because without any doubt it was #1 for 3 weeks in 1963, and like the BBC Chart says, it kept Frank Ifield from the hat trick. Unfortunately for Rolling Stones fans...the first #1 was actually "The Last Time", because the BBC says "It`s All Over Now", and "Little Red Rooster" were kept from the top, by you know who! Tell you what...Let`s run a game here. The first person that guesses what the highest charting re-mastered Beatles Album will be...
