Most remakes of older films are usually really bad, or average at best,Occasionally they are on a par with the original, but can you think of a film remake that was actually far superior to the original.

"The Hills Have Eyes" recent remake is one that did actually impress me. It had the griminess and real horror of the original. The cannibals' attack on the motor-home was genuinely quite horrific. There was a real air of terror in that one... It managed to retain the atmosphere of Craven's original film... My only problem with it was some of the prosthetics did look a tad ridiculous...

Nope. I really hate remakes.

even when its an alright cast and director?

or Brett Ratner's Boys from Brazil , where the novel might be used as the source material rather than the film, or the film might be quite obscure?

Ocean 11 was much better than the orginal

Nah, it wasn't really, didn't really have that 'legendary', zeitgeist-capturing factor that the "Rat Pack" original had. Was pretty darn good though, not saying it was a bad thing to do it. Steve Soderbergh is someone who usually delivers, in anyone else's hands it would've been utterly crud...

"Solaris" was a solid remake as well, very enjoyable, but lacked the sheer complexities of Tarkovsky's original....

Director Steven Soderbergh insists Ocean's Thirteen will be the last installment of the lucrative franchise led by an all-star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The director confirmed the news during a question and answer session with reporters at the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland on Saturday night. Soderbergh told the crowd they decided to make another installment because "George wanted to go out strong" and that Ocean's Twelve was too complicated, according to film website Dark Horizons. The filmmakers wanted the series to return to its comedic roots this time around and they've also added Al Pacino as a villain. Soderbergh adds, "This guy's a monster!" The announcement comes just days after the film's producer, Jerry Weintraub, told the Hollywood trade papers, "I want them (the cast) all back for Ocean's Fourteen."

so hopefully you might get a double pack with ocean's 11 and 13 in with that muck-a-bout 12 film thrown in as an extra. Oceans Twelve might have been alright when it was a different film, maybe someone should go back to the original film and make that, instead of shoehorning into the world of danny ocean like they did.
