When alecia was 9 years old her parents divorced. There was tension in the family because Judy had to work long weekends and they found it hard to do things as a family. There were also disagreements about finances and the children and it got to a point where Jim and Judy moore no longer talked but argued instead. They “just grew apartâ€. Although Judy didn’t want to be a single parent, she thought it would be best for the children if Jim and herself went their separate ways. It was a difficult day for all the family when jim decided to leave, they sat the children down and assured them that it wasn’t their fault that they couldn’t live together any more. Alecia and Jason were incredibly shocked at the news and were extremely upset, it was a very tough time for them. Alecia had a harder time dealing with the divorce than Jason did and music became her escape from reality.

After the divorce alecia became more and more into music and when she was 10 she trained with a vocal coach for about a year. One of the very first performances alecia ever did was when she performed Madonna’s ‘Oh Father’ to a crowd of 1500 people when she was just 10 years old. Alecia was confident and loved being infront of the audience. After seeing her daughter perform, jim knew she was going to become something big.
