Manics set for chart charge

01 May 2007 - 11:05:25

Source: Music Week

The Manic Street Preachers’ Your Love Alone Is Not Enough (Columbia) will storm the singles chart this Sunday, according to early reports, with a place in the top three looking likely.

The duet with former Cardigans singer Nina Persson will provide stiff competition to Beyonce and Shakira’s two-week reign with Beautiful Liar (Columbia), having sold 3,000 more copies already, after entering the chart at 26 last week.

The highest new entry looks likely to be from Hellogoodbye with Here (In Your Arms) (Epic), charting at number 33. Beverley Knight’s No Man’s Land (Parlophone) is the highest climber so far, jumping 80 places to number 43.

But, after threatening to saturate the charts with a bunch of new songs from their new number-one selling album, the Arctic Monkeys failed to impact the top 20 last week. And this week only Brianstorm (Domino) and Fluorescent Adolescent (Domino) look set to stay, currently standing at 10 and 62 respectively.

Interestingly, sales for the huge first album hit single I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor have picked up, and the single now stands at 88.

The Arctic Monkey’s sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare (Domino) looks set to hold the top spot on the album chart, although sales have slipped by around 65%.

New entries come from Michael Buble with Call Me Irresponsible (Reprise), which is currently sitting at number two, followed by Ne-Yo’s Because Of You (Def Jam) at number three.

There are six more new entries into the albums top 40, including Tori Amos (Epic), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (Island) and Rush (Atlantic).

Seems The Manics maye hold on after all...

Meaning a possible #1 for Amerie, Linkin Park or Akon next week unless 2 or 3 climbs...

Actually, thinking about it.

Could McFly be #01 next week with some stupid promo tactic they had with previous singles? :puke2:

Looks to me like 1 week at number 1 & then dropping like a stone. :P

The last I heard was that their doing the same type of download trick with "Star Girl". Expect Tuesday sales to be about 22k and overall about 32k

Yep and they're heavily promoting the tactic during their 34 date UK tour

Don't rule out McFly who are to UK #1 hit singles what Liverpool FC are to the European Cup!
