It's not a nice thought but the fact that Destiny, Senhit and Jeangu all underperformed expectations with the televote sets off my racism spidey sense!
100% I thought the same! Especially Destiny with an empowering feminist kind of song, not saying all of Europe is racist but it really does feel like a moment of implicit bias, when you look at it that way :/ Then Jeangu's song was very much rooted in his culture.

I think down the lower end, I'd argue it's kind of less cruel to them to be given 0 right away, it kind of rips the band-aid off. There's really no way to sugar coat us getting 0 on juries and televote, and getting 0 overall, but at least when you've already got 0 from the jury, just get it over with  I guess either way, you have to sit through 39 juries giving you 0 though.
But I think it was horrible for Destiny to be riding high from the jury, and then be singled out with what felt like a real televote bomb. I guess it doesn't matter, she still came 7th, but to be like "oh you're doing well but anyway you bombed the televote" was kinda sad.

Ultimately, it comes down to BBC not caring about winning. They could flash the cash for ANY artist if they wanted to do well, but they don't.
Think about it, they pay a few hundred grand a year for a 4 hour Saturday night ratings winner. All they need to do is be in the final. What other 4 hour show could you make for that money??
Yeah 100%, people are saying "how embarrassing, they'll withdraw" but I honestly don't think they care either. They got 8 million views having put minimal effort in, just sending the same person again as they were going to last year.
-
As I am not from the UK I would like to know, does the discussion around UK doing badly each year ever go anywhere? It seems like the songs are always empty and pure filler.
Nope, the BBC just do not listen. Even after bombing so many times, they just carry on as they are.
Eurovision is very unpredictable but I think mainly we do need to take a risk and send something that stands out. I don't think that really can go too badly, like the bottom end is usually safe pop songs that just don't really stand out.

Embers was not the worst song, however it was probably the most forgettable or among them, especially having a meh slot. People may have liked it well enough, but it's just not impactful enough for anyone to bother picking up the phone and voting for it. We are sending the most bog standard safe songs, I mean look what just won - an Italian glam rock adrogynous group. In the top 5 was Ukrainian techno-folk  Why do they think Europe would be into a Sigala B-Side.
However, he also was just not a good performer or really a good singer, they keep going on about how he's a Grammy nominated songwriter etc etc, but maybe there's a reason he's just a songwriter! He is not good enough to carry a song on his own, this was clear last year, so really we had a chance to sort that, probably getting someone else! The problem is, the BBC's attitude towards the contest has been so bad for so long, who will want to do it? Honestly getting James again I doubt was even out of obligation to him or because it was fair or whatever, I expect they were just ecstatic they didn't have to put effort in and select someone else  They've made it such a joke, even though it is a huge opportunity.
But I agree we do need to manage our expectations, I can't stand the entitled attitude from locals thinking that we should win every time just because we're the UK. Locals love to whinge that it's political but like... if it was why would Israel be top 20 with what's going on rn? It only takes one song to reverse fortunes, look at Portugal for example getting the most points ever after years of flopping.

SO SO happy for Maneskin!! My winners won, and they absolutely killed it. I didn't doubt they could do it but that was a nerve wracking couple of hours
I was so nervous for them I couldn't process that WILD voting but what stuck out to me was poor Destiny! To have killed it the way she did, won the semi, then chucked in 6th and tanked the televote. Also Senhit I was surprised at, I did think she was being overrated by predictions (if you about a lot of Europe, a random person in say Albania isn't going to care about Flo Rida) but I didn't think by that much! All those televote 0s as well!!
Not surprsed at all at us getting 0, it SCREAMED last place to me. A really safe and basic song that was really never go to set anyone's affections alight. I cba with any of this "it's all political" discourse from casuals, how can anyone expect that song to do well? I expect a lot of people didn't mind it but if you're people's like 17th fave, that won't do anything!

Gonna lock in a final prediction of:
01 Italy
02 France
03 Switzerland
04 Ukraine
05 Iceland
06 Malta
07 San Marino
08 Bulgaria
09 Russia
10 Portugal
11 Serbia
12 Norway
13 Azerbaijan
14 Finland
15 Lithuania
16 Israel
17 Netherlands
18 Belgium
19 Cyprus
20 Greece
21 Sweden
22 Germany
23 Albania
24 Spain
25 Moldova
26 United Kingdom
I feel like the top 7 or so could basically be in any order it's wild, but I do think it's between France and Italy for the win.

That's what I feared! I wouldn't mind if she seemed apologetic about it, Karen From Finance for example while I'm still not a huge fan, seems sorry and appears to understand what she did, but Scarlet's social media apology pre-season just was not it. And she'll never learn if she still does well or even wins here.
Australia still has a LOT of problems with racism but it really should have no place on a show like Drag Race.

I think Ukraine is just a bit much for the juries, that could be the case for Italy too but both of the two are performed so perfectly for the songs imo. Maneskin have such amazing showmanship and Go_A just go for it and make you feel like you're right there at their concert having a rave and the time of your life. I may be biased because I love both but I think if the juries tank two great performances by very different songs by Eurovision standards, the criteria with which they're ranking needs to be looked at?
I still have faith in Maneskin as they smashed Sanremo which traditionally is full of ballads, it was huge for a rock band to win that and it would be huge for a rock band to win Eurovision too.

Ok just watched the episode, the drama!! I think this was more entertaining than the past few by virtue of that, didn't necessarily expect Etc being a shady bitch but I love it
I'd actually have given Maxi the win, that was really unexpected from her! She had a harder material to work with but it was really well constructed with a great concept, definitely her best runway so far! Otherwise I agree with the tops, Art's outfit was great, really well constructed with a good balance of character without losing the outfit and the fact that it actually is a design challenge. I think had she had better hair though, I'd have put Elektra top over Art! Scarlet's outfit was great too, campy but glam, but you kind of expect that from her. I don't why they're pushing her quite so much, from the two wins in a row to shoving her down our throats with all the confessionals. Her runways are great, she's clearly got a great eye, but knowing what we know, I can't believe that they have edited it this way and are pushing her like that. It's not like she has a big personality, even without the racism for me she is just a generic bitchy twink you often get on the show.
I'm torn on the bottoms, I'd argue that Etc should have been there instead of Anita. Anita's wasn't constructed SUPER well but imo it wasn't as bad as the judges made out? There was less character or concept than others, but she did kind of sell it with her runway presentation and I think she was a bit more ambitous than Etc or Karen. With Karen's I LOVED the concept, that could have been so funny if she'd constructed an outfit better and then supplemented it with the camped up character, but she *relied* on the camp instead. Etc's was just not good, it was kinda like she did half of it and then ran out of time so just had to roll with it.
Sadly I do think Anita lost that lipsync, I think it would have been easier to take her elimination (even though she was my fave along with the other Kiwi girls) had she outright been the worst in that challenge and it was unavoidable, but she wasn't.

I think Kita must win the whole thing tbh, if Art really does get no wins they can't really crown a queen who was outright eliminated at one point and had to be brought back on a whim for no particular reason. Scarlet they just cannot crown, that would tank this arm of the franchise and leave a dark cloud over Drag Race as a whole. Karen I just can't see, she's been wobbly at best for 3 out of 4 challenges now, arguably deserved bottom 2 last week and was very lucky not to be there for Snatch Game. Of course it depends how she does for the rest of it, but that's a performance challenge, a comedy challenge and a look challenge she's tanked in now.
I could see Kita with her rumoured one bottom 2 (either for the branding challenge or whatever is after), then a few highs and she would have to win at that point really. I guess if Art is like high on EVERYTHING from now, maaaaybe, but I think that would kind of come across as if they just planned her winning from the start no matter what happened. Bringing her back like that without a challenge to return or a vote from the queens, any kind of illusion of fairness, and then her winning despite not winning a challenge, I feel like it would just be rigga morris, as great as Art is. I guess Yvie won on just a shared win and loads of highs.

I'm seeing a lot of hate for Maddy Morphosis (the cis straight man) but... I'm not sure I'm fussed?
Maddy's drag looks great to me which is the main thing, and I think it may be an interesting take or perspective to have on the show. I would a rather a great drag queen who happens to a be a cis straight male than say Silky.
I do get though that the show is built on and thrives on queer culture, and we've got some of our community still not represented on the show.
-
I think that's a decent cast tbh, I think if you had the real obvious ones like Bob or Alaska for example, it gets to be one of those obvious casts where you can see who's gonna win. That potential cast I feel is pretty balanced and a good mix! Especially excited for Raja, Yvie and Pri again.
I doubt if it's filming soonish that Envy would be on because she is in charge of make-up on DRH2 which I think is also filming soon but I guess it depends on the dates for both.

Twenty One Pilots - Scaled and Icy
in Indie, Rock and Alternative
I expected this to be much worse than it is from what I've heard, Bounce Man and Good Day are baaaad but there's some good stuff! The Outside *.*
The album works as a whole but it's their weakest for sure imo.
