(inb4 she's "doing it for attention!11!1" bc she can't win either way x)
This is pretty huge, it might seem like the bare minimum for some artists but when she's stayed out of politics for so long and has gotten so much for being "secret Republican" or "KKK music" bc she's white and pretty and they'd love her, it's a LOT. Any of you who've followed her even for just the pop eras will know what I'm talking about
On Instagram:
I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent.I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway.
So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting!
I have so so much love for her for this, after so long of taking the shit that came with staying quiet, now in the wake of Brett Kavanaugh and the shit that's going on in the US, it's the time for everyone to use their voice and use their vote and stand up against it, and stand up for the victims of sexual abuse, racism, homophobic, transphobia, sexism etc. that is sadly so prevalent in the current climate. I think it's a time where it isn't helpful to not speak up or sit on the fence becasue you "just love everyone as a a human no matter what they think" or whatever, we need as many voices as possible and as much action as possible to help the cause, and mobilising voters and using a vote is one of the best ways to actually effect a change. For some with such a platform and such a reach I'm so proud of the importance of this statement and the fact she is using her voice to make it.
In wider terms it's a small part of a rapidly growing number of people rising up against all the shit that's happened politically and socially in recent years and realising that they collectively can change it, which is so brilliant to see

I'm not really getting Danny at all either, I thought his Paso was average at best and he was on that bloody podium for half of it
And Charles/Karen just aren't working as a couple, there always seems to be a discord between them that leads to some form of mistake. Of course most couples miss a step or two, but with them it always seems to be something to do with their connection, chemistry and timing as a pair. Whereas with say Faye and Giovanni or Stacey and Kevin or Joe and Dianne you can see they get on and work together, you get none of that with Charles and Karen.
Omg at the Karen beef, I think Shirley has been needlessly snippy and harsh this year to a few, there must be something to her and Karen then! I didn't think it was that bad this week though, I think overall the standard was higher and scores more generous (apart from for the ones like Lauren and Joe who undeniably took a step down and deserved their lower scores), Charles was lucky to get what he did tbh!!

I'm lowkey liking Isabella but I don't think you can totally tell atm she just seems like she's in that little bubble of first entering and it all being new and fun, whereas Hussain has slipped straight into awful
EDIT: Christ I'm really get what someone said the other day about Zoe's Coleen Nolan vibes, I get that Hussain seems to be awful so far but how petty to dismiss new housemates just because of her fanny flutters for Isaac :drama: All she does is sit in the smoking area with a face like a slapped arse. What is her problem with Cian etc. trying to make friends with newbies? You don't own someone after knowing them for 3 weeks....

First two episodes are solid (I'm at UK pace), not sure I'm as taken as everyone seems to be but I think it's just taken time to set up the premise etc. and when the Coven lot come in it'll pick up. I think this premise has a lot more scope than Cult, that started off stronger but tailed off so hopefully this builds up instead of peaking early.
-
4 from each category? I couldn't pick 3 for the boys and overs
I knew Bella would go through though, there's strong singers in the form of the other 3 and Bella is something a bit different with her rap angle. I still don't think she's that good though, she'd be fine in a girlband but it's just not there on her own. Not sure the winner will come from the girls, Shan is brilliant though. I love Scarlett but feel like she'll do a Lauren Murray.

Contrary to what the judges said, I think Joe is a bit of a one trick pony at the moment  He has the energy for the quicker/more energetic dances and so his Charleston and Jive shone but the American Smooth was just quite flat in comparison. It was a bit more laboured, he clearly wasn't as comfortable and it showed. He may well grow into slower dances as time goes by and he gets better with more training but for now it was a real step back when a good few of them took a step up this week.
I'm loving that this series is wide open, Graeme and Seann might be dark horses if their routines weren't just anomalies because they were fun and really shone in a movie week, which I feel is the case for Seann becasue Katya's choreography was just outstanding so it was always going to be good. I'm just so happy for Stacey, 32 is a great breakthrough score after an iffy week last week, it's a big improvement but doesn't put pressure on peaking too soon. At this stage, Stacey, Faye, Joe and potentially Danny and Vick seem like really strong contenders. I'm sure Ashley will make the final but she'll Debbie/Alexandra it, if not Pixie Lott :kink:

The BB20 bunch might be a bit high due to being fresh on my mind along with BB6 which I just finished, but:
+40 Janelle(BB6/7/14) – iconic queen of comps, her All Stars run was astounding and she’s so likeable and hilarious, oops at her BB14 reign being a flop but I get the sense she wasn’t that fussed and didn’t fight
+39 Dan(BB10/14) – THE best game ever played, twice.
+38 Britney (BB12/14) – queen of diary rooms, she always made me cackle, underrated and intelligent social game too.
+37 Ian (BB14) – it was amazing to watch him grow in the game, such a sweet and likeable nerd.
+36 Vanessa (BB17) – astounding game, a real shame she never won.
+35 Will (BB2/7) – pretty much invented the game as we know it, an absolute master of manipulation.
+34 Rachel (BB12/13) – ok she can be annoying but her BB13 game was incred and she’s such a character.
+33 Haleigh (BB20) – such a sweetheart, idc that her game messed up she was just so likeable and I so want her to have another shot.
+32 Keesha (BB10) – a rare combo of likeable/bubbly and a great player; the Coven alliance was incredible.
+31 Danielle (BB3/7) – possibly the best player never to have won along with Vanessa, it was ridiculous!
+30 Johnny (BB17) – likeable king, always made me smile and was a joy to watch
+29 Elissa (BB15) – the ONLY star of BB15, such a horrific season.
+28 Omarosa (BB Celeb) – villainous icon, such a genius casting and she was worth every penny they paid her *.*
+27 Jun (BB4) – floater queen, she perfected it in a way nobody has since.
+26 Dick (BB8) – obviously far from the most likeable but to win when everyone hates you is playing a bloody great game and he was so entertaining.
+25 Natalie (BB18) – just so so lovely, I’m glad she got so far and is getting more chances to shine on The Challenge I believe.
+24 Victor (BB18) – DADDY and iconic underdog, normally I’d find 2 returns in a season ridiculous but I always rooted for him tbh and he really really fought.
+23 Daniele (BB8) – gets too much flack for riding Dick’s coattails, she proved herself in BB13 when she played alone plus neither would have made F2 without all her vetos.
+22 Nicole (BB16/18) – only for BB16 really, BB18 brings her down otherwise BB16 Nicole would easily be top 10.
+21 Zach (BB16) – REALLY needs another chance, one of the most entertaining houseguests for sure.
+20 Ariadna (BB Celeb) – such a sweetheart and really surprised me when she truly came to play *.*
+19 Ross (BB Celeb) – a superfan living his best life was great to see, brilliant ruthless game but I can see why he lost.
+18 Kaysar (BB6/7) – a really decent guy who brought a really different angle, one that was probably needed in BB6.
+17 Michelle (BB18) – I know she was a twat but god I found her hilarious, another I’d tip for maybe being a good pick for a second chance and maybe she can actually play this time x
+16 Jessica (BB19) – the ONLY shining light in BB19, our only hope for a time. Her and Cody are cute but Cody was never as likeable or rootable.
+15 Renny (BB10) – Her rivalry with Jessie is one of my absolute faves, relatable queen for taking none of his shit.
+14 Maggie (BB6) – AWFUL person, but her game was brilliant on BB6 and she’s underrated as a player imo, you have to commend her domination of the Friendship alliance and persuasion skills.
+13 Kaycee (BB20) – probably inflated for finally being a winner I was truly happy with after years :kink:
+12 Rockstar (BB20) – f*** it boosting her up, I just love love love her as a person.
+11 James (BB6/7) – a veto king, he was just so likeable in a way many many hot guys before and since really failed at.
+10 Libra (BB10) – the Coven was iconic because of her tbh, one of my fave BB alliances.
+9 Chima (BB11) – had to chuck her in, her meltdown is one of *the* best moments of BB
+8 Kaitlyn (BB20) – hot mess queen, god she was SO entertaining.
+7 Derrick (BB16) – brilliant player, almost up there with the greats in my top 10, but I just never really cared or took to him as a person.
+6 Danielle (BB14) – I have to chuck her in for being such a mess, allowing herself to be blindsided so bad with Shane
+5 Donny (BB16) - Sweetheart, easy to see how he got AFP.
+4 Victoria (BB16) - iconically shit bless her, I stan her doing nothing and getting top 3 (would've been top 2 if Cody wasn't dumb af)
+3 Helen (BB15) - one of the only worthy ones that season.
+2 Da'vonne (BB17/18) - a f***ing TERRIBLE player and a tad overrated but I love *her* as a person, always love seeing her social media posts etc. and she didn't take shit which I always love.
+1 Brett Robinson (BB20) - probs because he's fresh but he was so charming despite being arrogant af
Astounding that BB14 featured my top 4 players ever, even if Janelle wasn't at her best, no wonder it's my fave season!!

Davina by far, Emma has absolutely nothing on her and is a really overrated presenter. As I said she can be really biased (and the only time that's really been to her adavntage was Roxanne), I get that it shows she is into the show but it can detract from some interviews and I just can never really take to her. Plus Davina saw the show through its golden era, Emma has just had the dregs mostly  I just really don't tend to like her interviewing style a lot of the time and she's not as warm and likeable as Davina. At least she's not Brian x
Davina never took shit either but Emma is quite... cold with it. Davina at least still made sure we got a good interview out of some huge villains and let them say their piece and made them face up to it, but also appreciated that these people she probably didn't like were housemates who'd brought storylines to the show and deserved an interview no matter how bad they were. Well, apart from her infamous Makosi interview which made Roxanne and Emma look like bffs :kink:
-
I don't think Emma really helped, you could tell she really wasn't a fan (I mean, relatable, and it was amusing but still) so wasn't really giving him much or moving the interview on whereas with Lewis she was absolutely up his arse and the interviewed flowed a lot more so there was a lot more given by Lewis too. That's Emma's big flaw as a presenter imo, it worked with for example Roxanne who had to face up to what she did but it can really detract from a "normal" interview. I know he was hardly the life and soul and defining character and he did seem annoyed that he was evicted but I don't think she helped.

Loool Nick 4th, nice guy but bland af. I
Ryan 3rd :') I've said this so many times but no way should he have won, it's a bit ridiculous that he won off of one incident. He did not deserve it if you take that out of the equation, he did pretty much nothing to do so, wasn't entertaining, wasn't hugely likeable. I hated his dismissal towards Hardeep talking about racism for example, these things need to have a place on TV and be discussed but he was just immature and self centred and didn't care much to engage his brain in a conversation that meant something like that. Of course he handled the Roxanne thing well (and is totally right about the witch hunt being too much) and it was awful but I never like when one thing wins for a housemate. Kirstie was far more present and entertaining for the whole run.

Really disappointed by this, Blurryface was by far my album of the year in 2016 (ik it was 2015 but I didn't hear it until then and it conincided with SO being a UK hit etc. and me getting into them), it had so many layers too it and represented so many things in so many ways, I know I should judge this on its own but coming off of that and the hype it built, this falls pretty flat :( It all blends into one a bit, safe is definitely the word. It's by no means bad, they're all competent songs, but I found myself a bit bored listening to it :/ I'm thinking the album might need more listens though, it's all quite subtle and safe and chilled whereas with Blurryface there were risks and places where it was a lot more direct and aggressive to hit you.
Nothing touches Jumpsuit, the really rocky bit at the end is easily the moment of the album <3 Leave This City, The Hype and Chlorine would probably be my faves on first listen outside of the songs we already heard which are the best of the album really...

I follow a page on Twitter called @musicnewsfact which states Halcyon is the 9th best selling album of all time in the UK by a female. Surely this isn’t true. Is it the 9th biggest female record of the 2010s or something.
Sorry didn’t know where else to post this.
I'd imagine its of the 2010s, it's sold 1.2 million I believe and I just looked on Wiki and can see Adele x2, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Shania Twain, Leona Lewis, Dido x2, Lady Gaga, Alanis Morissette, Tracy Chapman and Norah Jones are in the top 60 of all time, so well over 8 other females, and #60 on that is 2.3 million so there'd be numerous others

120 Dixie Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice
Despite being released post Bush-gate and bombing on country radio, this pop money shot won Record and Song Of The Year at the Grammys (as well as Best Country Performance By A Duo or Group With Vocals), and is their finest moment. It was the perfect song for them at the time, following the shitstorm over basically saying they were ashamed of Texas over President Bush, they could have come back super safe or stayed silent, but they came out with this statement, a soaring country track that hits home that they aren't ashamed of using their voice, they're mad at what happened but they won't shrink back because of it. It all melds into an incredibly effective and emotionally packed song.
119 Beyonce - Listen
A song from one my fave films of all time, this has been attempted so many times, far too many, on talent shows but nobody can own it like Beyonce. I admittedly find Beyonce's vocals a bit cold sometimes, but this song in the context of being sung by Deena Jones in the film really anchors the character and adds depth to her, one of the best vocal performances of Bey's career.
118 Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over
A folky-bluesy-rocky indie marvel *.* This song is everything that's so great about the depth of Florence's powerful soulful vocals, they soar on a fairly sparsely produced but rousing track like this, bringing out the meanings of every phrase, every word. Nobody else could sing this quite the same and it's definitely go down as her classic.
117 Miranda Lambert - White Liar
This might not be a usual pick for her best track but it was the first song I heard by her and it was one of those instances where I was completely drawn to her as an artist because of it and immediately delved into her back catalogue. The strong female protaganist calling out her cheating husband is quintessentially Miranda, with all of the lyrical depth and storytelling genius everyone knows she's amazing at, and her vocals as always bring out dimensions of everything and weave a rounded story and a picture in your mind as if you're watching a TV show or movie of the events unfolding.
116 The Cranberries - Zombie
An incredibly powerful song, this has newfound prominence and poignancy due to the death of lead singer Dolores O'Riordan earlier this year :( As a protest song, this refers to a 1993 bombing incident by the IRA and two young boys who had died, highlighting how barbaric and wholly soulless the violence, bombings and actions leading to such deaths are using the zombie metaphor. Anchored by an unmistakable vocal, this is one of those really emotional and powerful songs that really hits you every time and forces you to digest every word and truly take it all in.
115 Nelly Furtado - Say It Right
The centre piece of a masterclass of a pop era, this was an enduring and omnipresent hit at the time and actually at the time I remember being a bit fed up of it being EVERYWHERE  But fast forward 12 years and it's really endured, it feels like one of those songs that totally summed up a time and a place in music, but equally if it was released today I think it would still be a bloody great song and stand out among the crowd. The hypnotic production, the tight and sexy vocals and the ambiguous lyrics just about pip the brilliant members of the Loose holy trinity Maneater and Promiscuous to being the best thing in her discography.
114 Spice Girls - Wannabe
One of the most notable debuts of all time *.* I can't imagine what it must have been like at the time, a mish-mash of so many genres and styles somehow compressed into a package quite unlike much of what the charts had heard before, a feminist anthem that marked a new period of Girl Power and unwittingly announced the entrance of a pop culture phenomenon in the form of the Spice Girls, but it certainly stands up as an iconic song today. It's just so much fun, it was rushed out in 30 minutes at recording but it fits so well you'd think it was agonised over for weeks, and the sense of authentic sense of personality and fun goes so far, sometimes that kind of energy matters so much more than being a perfectly produced and tight pop song.
113 Madonna - Frozen
The queen of reinvention came up trumps again with a turn at being an electronica queen, again proving her doubters wrong by showcasing her vocals like on Evita that came just before. William Orbit's production is the real star here though, the ambient atmosphere and beautiful strings slowly usher in additional electronic sounds that anchor Madonna's ethereal and airy vocals, making a magical ballad that really stands out in a discography full of brilliant pop.
112 Selena Gomez & The Scene - A Year Without Rain
This sounds weird to say about what is essentially a basic pop song but it felt... ahead of its time? This whole tropical-dance-pop thing going on right now has been driven into the ground, but this had flecks of that to make it fresh amongst the EDM-pop trend of the early 10s without being in a time where it was overused. The production is such a perfect fit for her airy and light vocals, this was an early precursor to her brilliant solo stuff where she used her voice much more effectively for what it could, turning its limitations into strengths. The end result is such a breezy, uplifting summery jam that's subtle enough to leave you wanting another listen, almost aching for more, but impactful enough to really worm its way into your brain.
111 Lady Gaga - Paparazzi
Following two uptempo smashes, this was a genius single choice and really showed her versatility as well as being the first of many incredible blockbuster music videos we would get from Gaga. It deftly tackles celebrity obsessed culture, like much of its parent album, and is as slick and glossy as it gets *.* This is just flawless pop delivered in a way that only the popstar of our generation could.
The Circle • Series 1
in Television
It's retained viewers really well, didn't it drop to like 400k on its second episode? I know even its top ratings isn't exactly stellar for Channel 4, but considering it dropped from 1 million to that, it could have fallen to a much more embarrassing number, so the fact it's risen and is even beating BB is brilliant for it. I mean I kind of thought it was going to absolutely bomb after that and end up cancelled before it ended
Also not that it's going to become as big as Love Island by any means, but the first series of Love Island only averaged 600k across the series and look how that built! It may end up on E4 but it'd be interesting to see how it builds. Overnight ratings aren't the be all and end all for a show like this, it's a new format that needs the word of mouth and buzz and obviously if someone hears about it now, they can't contribute to that but can go and catch up. There's also a lot of social media buzz which helps.
