    low top 20
  2. 1. LADY GAGA :w00t: 2. Elly Jackson 3. Gwen Stefani -------------------------------------------------- 4. Duffy 5. Ashley Tisdale -------------------------------------------------- 6. Kylie Minogue 7. Dusty Springfield 8. Kate Bush 9. Hayley Williams 10. Pixie Lott -------------------------------------------------- 11. Leona Lewis 12. Marina Diamondis 13. Shakira 14. Fergie 15. Anastacia 16. Jennifer Hudson 17. Sophie Ellis-Bextor 18. Dido 19. Ellie Goulding 20. Gabriella Cilmi 21. Katy Perry Bitch Slap: Beyonce A lot of thought went into my list. Lady GaGa was, for me, an obvious winner, not only because I love both of her albums, but because, in my opinion, she is the best we have at the minute in terms of being an artist and musician. She is versatile and she isn't afraid to take risks. Others worthy of mention include Ke$ha, Corinne Bailey Rae, Dannii Minogue, Jordin Sparks, Kate Nash, Kelly Rowland and KT Tunstall, however I was unsure who to give points to so I cut my list off at 21. Interestingly, I couldn't decide whether I should put Beyonce in my Top 5, or Bitch Slap her. In the end I went for the Bitch Slap. I loved Beyonce until 'I Am Sasha Fierce'. She was really cool and interesting. However (apart from the FANTASTIC 'If I Were a Boy'), I couldn't stand that album. Her videos were almost identical throughout and the songs were too similar. Her work on 'Telephone' made me see in her the way in which I used to, but it wasn't enough. Fingers crossed her next album will be better.

the cheek of this post. hahaa. i really don't care what you say about northern irish football. to be honest, we know we're rubbish (although the afore-mentioned george best is better than any footballer england have ever had). can't doubt that. furthermore, rankings have nothing to do with it. teams can be made up of decent, but not world-class, players and gel well together. england do not. you can throw statistics at me for as long as you want, but the facts stand: germany 6 pts, goal difference +4 england 5 pts, goal difference +1 shots on target are worthless if they don't go in. you can't deny that. at that, england struggled to get out of the easiest group in the tournament. the 8th best team in the world (OFFICIAL FIFA rankings)... what a load of $h!te. i don't blame you for your opinion though. i assume u r english (although i can't be bothered to go back and check) and you are all brainwashed. hahaa. go to any other country, you'll see support for germany, brazel, argentina, spain... but very little for england... why?? because you always think you are better than you are. you don't ever try to let us see in your team what you can see, because you don't see anything. you follow in blind-faith... also... i grew up with gambling and betting and i know bookies VERY well. the favourite doesn't necessarily mean the most likely to win. the more people who place bets, the lower the odds go. because all of england are brainwashed into thinking this team can win the world cup and can beat germany, they place more and more bets. the bookies have NO CHOICE but to lower the odds into a favourite position. but the bookies' favourite isn't always the most likely to win the match. they just can't afford high odds with the immense number of england supporters voting for them. but clearly you're naive to that. so i'll excuse that one. some people just don't know gambling... my goodness, if we went by the bookies, diversity wouldn't have come top 3 in BGT!! as for iTunes, i would like commander to get top 10. it's such a fresh song and it has an AMAZING music video, hahaa. would love alejandro to make top 5, but it doesn't seem to be getting the tv channel support it deserves...

one-sided?? i do believe it's england who are one-sided. the rest of the UK judge on performance. nationality of the pundits?? thought so. i believe they care about being at the world cup. but i know football well enough to know that the germans are looking much stronger. you said based on yesterday's performance. yesterday's performance was against a country with less than 500 professional football players and the english capitalised ONCE. that is NOT good. they couldn't string passes together either. face it, the pundits say what they said to keep the hope alive. but germany are a much stronger, more organised and more skilled team than england. if they don't win, it'll be a MAJOR upset. let's face it, england are huge underdogs going into this match. but don't ever again call me f**king one-sided. i judge the football based on what i watch. heck, in 2002, i was going to support england all the way. but this year, they don't have the same kind of heart and spirit. their football isn't as good or exciting to watch as the other teams either. it's a tad hypocritical to call me one-sided though. although i do forgive you, realising how blinded you are by the truth. iTunes-wise, i don't really care about all the football songs. it doesn't bother me. the only thing that bothers me is the constant plays they get on music channels when i just want to have a nice sit-down and watch some good music.

hahaa it kinda seemed that way!! diana was hugely famous, a wonderful woman and charity worker and the TRUE meaning of the nation's sweetheart, not like cheryl tweedy. she was a celebrity of a different rank!! she was loved worldwide as well as in the UK and worked extremely hard. an amazing lady to be perfectly honest

I'm sorry, but I just rolled on the floor laughing at this!! In a way I pity you, for having such faith in a football team which bases all of its success on hype. From a Northern Irish and UNBIASED point of view, England were not great yesterday. If England play as 'well' as they did yesterday against Germany they'll have to be horrendously lucky not to be beaten by more than 2-0. They seriously need to up their game... Otherwise (and the most likely situation), the younger and fresher German bulldozers will knock the $h!t clean out of them!! Back on topic... It's interesting to see Waka Waka climb so high and very refreshing. No offence, but all of the other football songs are simply atrocious... At least Waka Waka represents a celebration of Africa and the World Cup in general rather than the blind support of a team of pampered millionaires who couldn't care less about winning the World Cup because they don't have their nice juicy paychecks!! Waving Flag I don't like, but I accept it to be for a good cause. Shout is just aggrevating and utterly appalling. I'm also wondering if there are any artists other than Lady GaGa who can actually climb from low positions on iTunes into the upper limits of the charts, or if everyone else has sales based on hugely frontloaded first-week purchases!! Long live Lady GaGa, with her we can actually see sleeper hits; climbs to number one. Otherwise... We fall further into the system of TERRIBLE number 1's, like Tinie Tempah and B.o.B., who debut at number 1 and stay in the upper limits of the charts for a minimal amount of time... RANT OVER :)

It's a real shame really, because, as I said before, I always read these threads to keep up to date and MrLovett has always been a member who I have always admired and respected. But being so quick to target others who are merely implying that their opinions are obvious, while making bold statements such as 'Lady GaGa will burn out soon and flop' is nothing short of hypocrisy. I am sure my opinion does not matter to him, I would just like to mention that a bit of openmindedness goes a long way. But whatever. Will Lady GaGa burn out? Gee, I really couldn't say. Just wait here a wee second while I go look in my f**king crystal ball. If you find someone who can predict the future, good on you. But I'm sure Madonna faced the same criticisms in her early days and proved them wrong. Why can't GaGa? Also, I have to add that I read and really appreciated the detail and information in thisispop's post. That's the foundation of an intelligent and mature debate.

I haven't posted in ages (due to exams  ), but I always keep updated with the threads and posts (often for general entertainment) and I find it necessary to say how I feel about the whole thing. Firstly, I would like to stress the fact that, while I am a huge GaGa fan, I also have a lot of love for Madonna, so my opinion is pretty much unbiased. I'd like to start by addressing the issue of the whole 'delusional GaGa fans'. Lady GaGa is my favourite artist. Do I believe she's completely original? No. Do I believe she invented the music video? No. It is unfair to generalise when it comes to GaGa fans in believing that we are all idiots, that we are all sheep and that we all hate anyone who may be seen as competition to her, because that is not true at all. Part of being a fan is defending your favourite artist. Another part is understanding the criticisms others have of them. So we're not ALL completely immature. The day I first began to love Lady GaGa wasn't when Just Dance or Poker Face come out, wasn't when The Fame hit number 1, wasn't when she started having worldwide success... It was when I saw the videos of her at Glastonbury and heard Poker Face acoustic. That was when I first realised; this girl's good. Secondly, when it comes to the issue of her being a copycat, I think it's unfair to generalise based on one video. Yes, it is clear that this video is heavily influenced by Madonna, but which of her other videos apart from about 10% in Telephone, in which she just happens to look like Madonna. But there is nothing wrong with being inspired by someone. I doubt every thought going through GaGa's head is 'how should I copy her next??'. It is unfair to have that opinion of her. Although she is a little before my time, I am sure Madonna also had her influences and copied others also. It's horrible as well to compare her to Grace Jones and Roisin Murphy just because she wears weird clothes. Not everyone who wears something that is out-of-the-ordinary is copying Grace Jones. I can admit a lot of it is done for attention, but that is just part of the concept of 'GaGa'. Finally, while some have, not all GaGa fans believe her to be 100% original. But to say she is completely unoriginal is also unfair. What GaGa is doing has, in part, been done before, but she does have the ability to bring such ideas to the 21st Century. Clearly, she's quite good at it. I am sure also, to those who think that she will burn out, or hit a brick wall, that GaGa has those exact same fears. Every artist does. I accept that there is a chance she could flop at anytime. I also accept that there is a chance that she could become a pop phenomenon to span decades, like Madonna and Michael Jackson have been. There is nothing to say that either couldn't happen. To say, however, that there will never be another Madonna or Michael Jackson is pure $h!te (and I don't swear). What a pessimistic view of the world to think that there will never be anyone else as good as those, or with their longevity, in the history of the world. I am sure at the time of Frank Sinatra, the Beatles and Elvis, they were also saying that no-one would ever be as big. Then came Michael. Again, no-one will ever be as big. Then came Madonna. No-one will ever be as big as those... Perhaps then along came GaGa? To discuss the future is something that we should not do. No-one will ever be able to predict the trends in musical style and popularity over the next few decades. That is silly. Why don't we all just live in the present and accept GaGa for what she is right now (the biggest singer in the world AT THIS TIME) and accept Madonna for what she is right now (a true icon) and see what happens. To the GaGa fans - she is not an icon. She has only been around for two years and while her rise to fame has been phenomenal, we have to see how much longevity her career has before we give her the coveted 'icon' label. With regard to Alejandro - love it. Video is fantastic. Would love it to go to number 1, but given the huge album sales I think top 5 is most realistic. PS - to those who say that we cannot have a true grasp on how much of a copycat she is because we are young, perhaps you should just let us have our GaGa for being something brand new in TODAY'S market. Historically, not even Michael Jackson was truly original. He was just the best at what he did. At this moment in time, so is GaGa.

    wow @ SFG pop bar!!
  14. Darren-5-08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
SFG have a huge lead, regardless of multiple entries for GaGa and PB. in addition, SFG is increasing at a greater rate than PB, i don't see it being caught come sunday...
  15. Darren-5-08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
SFG could overtake TT before the BigTop40 play the iTunes Top 10... SFG will go to #2 before PB hits #10, or perhaps even #11, given the rates at which they have been increasing.
  16. Darren-5-08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
@ SFG #4 PB at #12... thank goodness he's not increasing at SFG's rate :)

i would be inclined to say 'how dare you' and refer to a certain Tinie Tempah and his two week reign...
  18. Darren-5-08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
all in all, it is telephone that i would like to see with another week on top... out of PB and SFG, though, SFG... they deserve it
  19. Darren-5-08 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
it's GaGa, so it could easily hit the top spot, one week of powerful sales after the release of an awesome video isn't unheard of. like i said though, it's GaGa, so the video is pretty much everything :) most likely top 5, with a similar chart run to Paparazzi

Never liked Diana on X Factor, but think Once is rather good Defo prefer it to Chipmunk guff, sorry guys, but British rap just isn't at the level the Americans can do it at and, frankly, Chipmunk is our worst in my opinion Can't stand Plan B and have always liked Scouting for Girls, hope they can out-do this Plan B guy... Diana Diana SFG SFG
  25. Telephone domination :) Glad to see videos like IWEMA and Starry Eyed sticking around, wish that JLS rubbish would go away though... One Shot is over now!!
