I’ve been watching past episodes of The Weakest Link in Challenge recently and realised looking back just how cruel Anne Robinson was in some of her remarks to contestants, which made me think that there would be no way to revive this show in 2021, and if they did it would have to be someone who can engage in gentle ribbing without crossing over to downright cruelty. I thought that Robert Rinder would be the ideal person to fit that purpose, but it’ll be interesting to see how different the show is with Romesh Ranganathan.
  2. Good. Better late than never.
  3. SACK THE ADULTERER.
  4. There was a BBC News article about this only a few weeks ago. John Oates himself seems to think that it was its inclusion of "500 Days of Summer" that turned it into a streaming titan.

Already have. Stuck £10 on it with 9/4 odds.
  6. I do, but I do travel to border towns every now and again (where it's easy to cross over to O2 Ireland even if you haven't crossed the border), plus I intend to travel down-South more regularly once "the event" fully subsides.
  7. Happy 5th Anniversary of the Brexit vote. A great day for O2 to inform me that they are re-introducing roaming charges outside the UK if you use more than 25GB of data whilst abroad (£3.50 per 1GB above that limit). Those with a long memory will remember that it was the worry about roaming charges being introducing due to living on an island where you're likely to inadvertently find yourself crossing into another jurisdiction was one of the things that made me vote "Remain" in the end. I doubt I'd go over the 25GB limit even if I was roaming, but it does leave a sour taste, and it could be the start of bringing them back regardless of how much data is used.

I'm still going to predict Batley & Spen as a win for Labour. Even though I've been reading stories all week about George Galloway pulling away support from potential Labour supporters all week (and I think he will finish in a better-than-expected 3rd place), I think that there will be enough support to get Labour over the line.

Watched The Father. What a gut-punch of a film it was. Was beautifully made and well acted by Anthony Hopkins (who definitely deserved the Oscar), with good supporting turns from Olivia Colman & Rufus Sewell. Was almost like a psychological horror in some places. 1) Nomadland 2) The Father

Will be interesting to see the streaming numbers for "Flowers of Scotland" tomorrow.

So if it's still 0-0 after 90 minutes does it go to Golden Goal? (yes, I know).

Have the rules for the kick-off changed in recent years? Normally I remember two players from the same side kicking at the centre, but at this match there's only one player who passes back a lot further.

  16. Imran Ahmad-Khan, the Tory MP for Wakefield, has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year old boy. He has had the Tory whip suspended.
  17. I’ve worked from home or less from the moment the pandemic started and absolutely hate it, although given that I live on my own and have no dependants at the moment there are more drawbacks than benefits for me - I love the coffee-pot conversations that can trigger interesting developments, and I like being able to turn my head to ask a colleague a question, rather than sending an email that can get garbled or hope they’re available to take a call. But I recognise that a few years down the line when I have kids I’d savour being able to work from home to spend more time with them, so I am glad that there will be a greater flexibility going forward plus it allows those people who would have been excluded from work due to having dependents or having mobility issues to keep on working in a way that more suits them.

It's the default biggest story when I open up the BBC News homepage. It is also the main story when I open the BBC Homepage as well.

Looks like the Lib Dems will have to upgrade their parliamentary offices from a phone box to a small caravan. Definitely got this prediction wrong, another one to add to the list. I imagine there were a lot of local factors in play here - The Great Realignment cuts both ways.
  20. It’s going to be realllllly fun summer here. It’s the first July in a long time that I truly do fear that something terrible is going to happen during the season, like a powder keg is about to explode. Plus, if we do get a new election to the next few months, that won’t help things either.

Very niche question that Buzzjack should know the answer to, but what is that song that the England fans have been chanting the past few minutes? Don't recognise it.

    *sobs in Jack Charlton*.
  23. Seems sensible, at least it's a delay rather than a return. Would've prefered if it were 2 weeks rather than 4 with the option to extend, but fair enough. I can't see ParkRun being affected - the reason its return was delayed from 5th June to 26th June was due to them not having enough permissions from land owners, but they've now secured this, so even if there's an extension they can still have up to 500 people taking part as long as they carry out a risk assessment first.
  24. *Puts disputation hat on*. I'd agree with Sit Down, but I'd say that their other best-known song is instead "Laid", being their biggest streamed song on Spotify (indeed, a few years ago it was the biggest streaming song released the year it came out on the service), and it's probably better known in America than "Sit Down" is.
  25. Fantastic news from Northern Ireland as for the first time since the pandemic started there isn't a single person with Covid in an ICU unit here. Covid patients are now down to just 15, and although there has been a slight uptick in amounts of admissions compared to last week, the fact that the total number of Covid patients have continued to fall would suggest that those who are admitted are staying in hospital for shorter amounts of time. Vaccines are awesome.
