  1. There's a trailer! bx-H-sZUTpo Glad they're starting it on Boxing Day. Been waiting for this since the last series ended. Hoping they can get some decent celebs this time around in spite of the pandemic - probably no or few Americans as a result.
  2. New restrictions in England have passed, but notably it's claimed that up to 56 Tory MPs voted against the party, which is quite a sizeable number. Those rebels could cause mischief going forward.

Have there been no restrictions on watching matches at that level, or is it because they're unlikely to hit a limit of fans that would require social distancing?
  4. Because it's viewed as a "low status", the sort of comedy that is popular with what would be unfairly viewed as the "underclass" of society. It's the sort of comedy that gets up the nose of the sort of people who write opinion columns at The Guardian, and is beloved by the sort of people who think that high art is the third page of The Sun newspaper. If you're comfortably middle-class, I am going to guess that you don't know anyone who's a fan of Mrs Brown's Boys because it's not being targeted at you. And there's evidence to back up my claims - a YouGov survey in 2018 shows that fans of Mrs Brown's Boys are more likely to be in the C2DE educational category, were more likely to vote for Brexit, and are more likely to not have a university education. More interestingly, and somewhat surprising to me, are that men are more likely to hate Mrs Brown's Boys than women, and that Labour/Tory voters are almost identical in their love/hate of the show (although this based on 2017 voting patterns, 2019 might have shifted this somewhat).
  5. I'm still seeing my personal trainer each week in the gym (although from next week it's likely to be via Zoom), and I schedule at least one 10 mile run in each week (as well as a shorter 5k if I can fit it in). My weight has started to creep up in recent weeks owing to eating a lot more than usual, but thankfully not by a substantial amount, and I've started to pull things back under control. Not sure if the long runs will continue into the cold weather, especially given that I can't do them in the gym now that they're closing from Friday, but I will try to do so.
  6. *puts pedantic Catholic hat on. Which is a lovely hat by the way*. Ahem. You can't "cancel" Christmas. What you can do is limit the celebration of the Holy Day. Christmas will be celebrated regardless of how many people you eat brussels sprouts with on 25th. *takes Catholic hat off*. Here's an out-of-the-box idea - for one year only, we agree as a nation to rename Christmas to Winterval. Then get the government to cancel Winterval. That way we can encourage people not to go mad over December, those of us who wish to celebrate Christmas can still do so in our own way, and the tabloids can turn their annual hatred of the alleged "Winterval" into a force for good. I'm still available for consultancy work for a reasonable fee.
  7. No symptoms like drowsiness or the such. My arm was a little bit tender the next day, but that was about it.
  8. I got it from my local pharmacy in North Belfast (they'd literally only received it that morning). I had to pay for it, but was happy enough for the peace of mind.
  9. Don't think I'll be getting it until February given the group I'm in (assuming that NI's rollout will be on a similar timetable to England). I did get a flu shot for the first time today, because the last thing I want is to get the flu & coronavirus at the same time.
  10. Vaccinations for England are due to begin for care home residents & healthcare workers at the start of December, then prioritising older people, with the youngest cohorts beginning to get vaccinated from the end of January onwards. Emma Corrin was fantastic as Diana, a real star-making performance for her. Gillian Anderson & Olivia Colman were brilliant in their respective roles so much that I forget they were acting (although I don't think Anderson got Thatcher's voice spot on). I'm surprised how much more likeable Tobias Menzies' performance of Phillip was compared to Matt Smith. I know a lot of liberties have been taken with the history involved, but the one moment that I though was made up was one that actually happened -
  12. Northern Ireland moving into tougher lockdown from next Friday. All non-essential shops closing, as well as gyms and churches, and restaurants will only offer takeaway. Which means we're in the farcical situation where cafes & hairdressers will be able to reopen from tomorrow, only to close again next Friday.
  13. Personally I'd prefer that they just don't play the song at all and expand the range of Christmas songs that they do play during the season. Would be nice to see Radio 1 (and radio in general) playing more recent Christmas songs and lesser known gems rather than going straight for the same songs each year.
  14. Ask The Host music for Christmas #1.

Liam Gallagher's releasing a song at the end of November, "All You're Dreaming Of", with a physical release due for the week before Christmas. It's for charity (Action For Children), and Liam appears to be aiming for it to be #1 for Christmas, although even making the top 40 on 25th December could be ambitious.
  16. COVID restrictions in Northern Ireland are being extended until the end of next week, after which hairdressers/salons and non-alcoholic eating establishments can reopen.
  17. The elevator stopped at the wrong floor when he was visiting BBC Radio studios.
  18. 1) Heck no. That grifter's got no chance. 2) I see Sarah Palin as sort of a "proto-Trump", so I think she might have done quite well, albeit not well enough to win the candidacy (she was making mint from her media career, which is why she didn't run at the time). I don't see this as the end of Trumpism for Republicans, I imagine their candidate will be Trump-y without his short attention span and thin-skinnedness, and a woman in the Trump mould would be even more popular among the base than Trump could ever be.
  19. I disagree. When I lived in Nebraska in 2010-11, the thing that surprised me was just how popular Sarah Palin was at the time among Republican-leaning people, female and male. There hasn't been a female Republican that put herself forward for the primary that was of the standard that could have won the party's nominations to date (Michelle Bachmann & Carly Fiorna ran objectively terrible campaigns), but in 2024 I can see Nikki Haley winning it, and there's quite a few Republican women who have entered the House of Representatives for the first time in this election cycle that are worth keeping an eye on. I've argued before that I think it is easier for conservative female leaders to win elections than it is for female left-leaning leaders, which is why at this point I think the Republicans will win in 2024 with a woman, and also might explain why the Tories in the UK have had 2 female leaders & Prime Ministers whilst the Labour Party have failed to have just one (and the Lib Dems' first one only lasted until she lost her seat).
  20. Also, second Catholic President of the USA, so yay for that.
  21. Well, another BJ prediction from me that was incorrect. Not that anyone will be particularly disappointed by that.
  22. The first POC to be Vice President was Charles Curtis back in 1929. He was of Native American heritage, a member of the Kaw Nation. But still, first in nearly 100 years.
  23. Just found out my girlfriend's grandad was rushed to hospital with COVID last night. He was diagnosed with cancer last month so the outlook isn't looking good (the treatment has left his immune system compromised). I didn't have any close family or friends that caught it in the first wave, but sadly it seems that many people I know personally have caught it this time around.
  24. Ooh, my favourite political-related klaxon. It's not a surprise, it was pretty well known that once Brexit happened that Farage would change the Brexit Party into the Reform Party, but I didn't think that coronavirus would feature in his offering. Then again, there is a sizeable minority that is becoming restless under lockdown, and he's got form at taking a minority political position and getting support behind it. Although the demographic that are most opposed to lockdown are 18-24 year olds (by quite a large margin), a group that are also more likely to be repulsed by Farage, so if there is an anti-lockdown party, it won't be one fronted by Farage.
  25. A National Lockdown is apparently on the cards for England from Wednesday. *Brenda from Bristol voice*
