Hi all, as always I have compiled a Spotify Year End Chart for this year and have the results below. Before we start I will add the standard caveats that I can only track a song's streams when it is in the weekly top 200 so hits from the start of year which dropped out of that before year end (e.g. 'Abracadabra') will be disadvantaged compared to the OCC list. Secondly, songs with multiple versions contributing to its total (e.g. 'Show Me Love' & 'Rein Me In') are also likely to be disadvantaged as both versions rarely chart in the top 200. Finally, unlike the OCC, I use the full 2025 calendar year from January 1st to December 31st, tracking partial weeks at the start and the end of the year which could create slight discrepancies. To the surprise of no one, and matching the OCC result, 'Ordinary' by Alex Warren is the #1 song of 2025 falling just shy of 130 million streams for the year, making it the fourth biggest year of all time: The rest of the top 10 is very different to the OCC list, with 'That's So True' hanging on at #2 (#6 on the OCC list) and overperformances also coming from 'Man I Need' (#5), BIRDS OF A FEATHER (#6), 'back to friends' (#7) and 'Sailor Song' (#9). 'Golden' is the big loser here, only reaching #15, suggesting much stronger performances on other platforms as it got to #4 officially. 'APT.' (#12) and 'Beautiful Things' (#14) also miss out. Overall it was a fairly strong year for Spotify streams, although the top portion of the chart couldn't match 2024, where the whole top 6 crossed 100 million, the depth of the numbers were better than ever with the total for the #200 song being the highest ever, and every other point that I track (except #1) was either the highest or second highest ever: Wham! recorded the biggest streaming week of the year (and second biggest of all time) with 10.6m streams for 'Last Christmas' on the penultimate week of the year. Outside of Christmas songs, 'The Fate of Ophelia' had the biggest week of the year amassing 8.9m streams on the release week of 'The Life of a Showgirl'. In fact, six of the top 10 (non-Christmas) biggest streaming weeks came from that week with the five biggest songs from the album along with 'Man I Need' all amassing large streaming numbers on that week. 'Man I Need' appears four times in the top 10 (non-Christmas) biggest streaming weeks and 'The Fate of Ophelia' twice, with all of the top 10 weeks coming in the month between September 19th and October 16th. There were less #1's on Spotify compared to the OCC this year (mostly due to a number of songs getting to #1 officially due to ACR) as the dominance of 'Ordinary' and 'Man I Need' on Spotify could not be broken - a number of official #1's did not get a week on Spotify. 'Pink Pony Club', 'Survive', 'Dior', 'DAISIES' and obviously 'XMAS' all failed to have a week at #1 on Spotify. There were no extra weekly #1's on Spotify compared to the OCC and 'The Subway' was the only #1 to miss the top 100 of this list. Additionally, although 'Pink Pony Club' failed to reach #1, it did match its OCC Year End Position of #3, the third highest position for a song which did not reach #1 behind 'Roses (Imanbek Remix)' and 'Heat Waves' which both reached #2 on the Spotify Year End list in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Sabrina Carpenter has the most songs in the top 200 with 11, closely followed by Olivia Dean with 10, who amazingly charts five of these in the #176-#200 region. Seven songs from KPop Demon Hunters made the top 200, with the same five as the OCC list making the top 100, albeit only just in the case of 'How It's Done' (#98) and 'What It Sounds Like' (#99), with 'Takedown' (#133) and 'Free' (#151) also making the top 200. Out of the 100 songs on the OCC list, only one does not make the top 200 here, which is ironically the #100 song of 'MUTT', this is the lowest since 2018 when the whole OCC list made the Spotify top 200. Other songs which struggled on Spotify compared to the OCC are 'Someone You Loved' (#159) and Sapphire (#139). However, the difference that stood out the most to me was 'Nice to Meet You' which finished a staggering 61 places lower than its 23rd position on the OCC list at #84. The biggest overperformers on Spotify were 'The Night We Met' (#33) and 'Feel Good Inc.' (#40) which both finished over fifty spots ahead of their OCC position. The top songs to miss out on the OCC list entirely were 'Teenage Dirtbag' (#58), '505' (#61) and 'Dakota' (#65), although all three of those spent stints inside the Year to Date list this year and 'Dakota' likely finished at #101. 'So Easy (To Fall in Love)' (#93) is the only 2025 song to miss the OCC list and make the top 100 here, although both 'Sparks' (#67) and 'Let Down' (#79) debuted on the OCC chart this year. As with the OCC list, Christmas songs had a tough time in 2025, with 'Last Christmas' (#88) being the only one to crack the top 100, the lowest total since 2019. However despite overall streaming numbers being down, the same number of Christmas songs made the list as last year, with nine of the ten that reached it last year making it with 'Step into Christmas' (#200) (replacing 'Sleigh Ride' from last year) making it for the first time since 2021, with taste winning as it beat 'Wonderful Christmastime' onto the list by a mere 309 streams: Twenty One songs (22 including the White Noise track) charted for every week of the year in the top 200, these are highlighted in yellow on the sheet. Out of these 21 (22), eight (nine) managed to chart in the top 100 for fifty weeks, only dropping out during Christmas week. There were 12 re-entering songs this year, three of which were notable absences from last year's list, 'The Chain' at #46 making it a record year for Fleetwood Mac with three songs in the top 50, 'She Moves in Her Way' (#90), also a record year for the Kooks with two songs reaching the top 100 for the first time (Naive #37) and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' (#130). Wonderwall was #119 in its worst year ever position wise (tied with 2017) despite Oasis' comeback tour this year. Sam Fender also saw re-entries for 'Seventeen Going Under' (#69) and 'Hypersonic Missiles' (#155) following his album this year. Curiously, 'In the Stars' by Benson Boone also re-enters this year at #143, having not made it from his big album last year but having previously been #195 in 2022. The most noticeable drop outs this year are 'Blinding Lights' (first time since 2019), 'Don't Stop Me Now', 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High', 'No Role Modelz' and 'The Real Slim Shady' (all for the first time since 2020), with this becoming the first ever list without Eminem on. I will make a quick note on the White Noise track which would have been #16 combined (or #26 for the Loopable version if uncombined), but as per last year have not given it a place as it is not a proper song but left it on the spreadsheet anyway to show how it performed. Please see the link to the sheet below - there are two sheets, the first one is the table and the second one a selection of stats - as always I am more than happy to answer any questions or just discuss the list as a whole! :) Google DocsUK Spotify 2025
