Streaming Services Chart Discussion
It's funny that the top 5 on Spotify and Apple Music are the same right now, and at other times they can be very different.

The Hot 100 also has a 3 year-old rule, songs that are more than 3 years old aren't allowed to chart in the bottom half of the Hot 100 (they are automatically considered to be recurrent) so they have to be in the top 50 before being allowed on the chart. So Sophie will probably need to be like top 20 on Spotify to chart there as she's got no airplay.

If all the songs 3+ years old can get reset then maybe Perfect Exceeder has enough to be top 40?

There's also Kanye West - Heartless and Drake - Practice which I think are in the same situation as Sophie basically. It would be ashame if they miss out just because they happened to surge at New Year.

OCC: Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Official Biggest Songs
I thought Groovejet and Me and My Imagination would be higher. But I think Groovejet isn't on Spotify so that's probably hurt its sales a lot. And I'm surprised how high Crying At the Discotheque is. It's a new song and also a cover, I wouldn't have thought it'd be so high.

The funny thing is that Mike Posner lamenting that nobody remembers Cooler Than Me just ended up reminding everybody of it. I saw Sophie in one of the New Years playlists so that probably helped her a bit yesterday too. Hopefully her label will get her on more playlists now. As for her career, I don't find it that surprising, because yes she only had 2 massive hits really but she had a lot of normal-sized hits stretching over an entire decade. Groovejet in 2000 all the way to her last hit which I would say was Heartbreak in 2009 and that helps so much for a pop star. For example, imagine if Aloe Blacc or Iggy Azalea were getting regular hit songs every couple of years from 2014 to 2023 they would be SO much more famous now, even if none of them were as big as the ones at the beginning.

2023 year to date estimates
It's strange to think Cold Heart will probably overtake Candle in the Wind one day. Maybe as soon as the late 2030's or 2040's.

It's quite strange that We Found Love is so high on both playlists. Does it mean that Rihanna will be releasing new music soon? I remember a while ago I suddenly started hearing JLS songs everywhere, and then a couple of months after that they announced their comeback. And I realised that hearing their old songs a lot in a short time was obviously no coincidence and something their label had done. So maybe this is a sign Rihanna is coming back soon.

The Buzzjack Chart of the Year 2023 Thread: 29th December
I think a system that would work is to only include songs where the majority of the sales come from 2023. That would allow songs like Sure Thing and Die For You, and songs that became hits late in 2022, but the mega hits like Bad Habits, Someone You Loved, etc, that just hang around for years as well as Christmas songs and classics like Wonderwall would get removed. But I would prefer that to be an alternative chart (for people like us to look at and it's better for stations like Radio 1 to use if they want to do a year-end show), but I think the actual official year-end chart should be the one with everything included equally like it is now. And I would like to see retroactive ones for the past few years too because it's been getting like this for a while now. And they need to think of an alternative for the decade-end chart. I'm a bit worried that Last Christmas will get the decade-end #1 it after seeing how high it was this year. Not that it doesn't deserve it, and again it is more accurate so fine, but it would be a shame if most of the 100 decade-end chart positions will be songs from before, so an alternative one with old songs excluded would be nice.

I think these resets are automatic now so it doesn't matter how silly the reason is. But I'm worried that its streaming increase happened in a Christmas week so it will miss out? With Murder on the Dancefloor its long-term success I think depends on whether it gets on the streaming playlists, Capital FM, etc, like Sure Thing, Die For You and Cruel Summer (and how viral it goes on TikTok). It's already such a famous song in this country though, but Running Up That Hill was really famous before too so it could work.

I voted 37, glad to be correct for once. It seems a lot of us guessed right.

The Buzzjack Chart of the Year 2023 Thread: 29th December
If someone told me in 2016 that Miley Cyrus, Dave and RAYE would be the year-end top 3 in 2023 I would have been so confused.

To be fair I think anybody who vaguely follows the charts will be able to guess it for this year anyway.

It's so odd from this album that every single either went top 10 or peaked between #50-#60.

It looks like Popular might make it for 2024 given how high it is on Spotify right now! :o

I have no idea what this movie is, but Murder on the Dancefloor and Perfect Exceeder is quite the soundtrack! And it looks like maybe Heartless by Kanye West will be back in the top 40 soon if it gets reset?

The Buzzjack Christmas Chart Show Thread: 22nd December 2022
Is this true? I listened to it and have no recollection of that at all. I could be wrong but it seems like something I'd remember. And Joe was the type of guy, really nice, smiling all the time, would never say a bad word about anyone. I remember him being interviewed on the Big Top 40 Show where he was also #2 and he just said things like "I'm really happy to be #2, congratulations to them for getting #1".

Friday Chart Predictions
I don't know, but I was thinking maybe The Pogues might maintain (some of) their improved performance this year in future years since that's what seemed to happen to Last Christmas after George Michael passed away. It got a big boost when it happened, but it's like that boost has stayed with it (or even grown) ever since.

Christmas #1 2023 odds & discussion
I'm not too surprised at the TikTok thing because I've seen multiple stories over the years about big TikTok accounts doing live in-person events or meet-and-greets and having 0 people turn up.

Friday Chart Predictions
I think The Pogues could definitely do it. But the media and the public need to be whipped up into a frenzy about it in like the next 36 hours or else it might be too late.

2023 year to date estimates
I think it has a good chance to be in 2024's year-end top 10.

The same artist charting with different names
I remember another one, Lady Antebellum are now Lady A. I don't think they've been in the charts since then, but maybe one of their Christmas songs will make it one day lol.

The same artist charting with different names
I was looking at the Spotify charts and saw Stay Another Day and it reminded me that East 17 had an alternate name, E-17.
