  1. Yeah you can get Youtube views that way, but views from adverts don't count for the charts anymore as far as I know. Lady Gaga - Dope and Soko - We Could Be Dead By Tommorrow got top 10 in the US because of that and after that they stopped counting streams from adverts, so probably the same here too. Now I guess you'd actually have to click on the advert and watch the actual video for the stream to count which I doubt many people do.
  2. Wow the 10 year anniversary of Look Right Through being #1!
  3. I know Youtube means almost nothing anymore for the charts, but I can't believe Mariah is already #7. And if The Beatles didn't exist she wouldn't be far from #1.

Brenda Lee's record label have actually been promoting Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree since August! https://twitter.com/RossOnRadio/status/1697253545236730177 They're saying there that it's for the 65th anniversary. But I agree that they are probably trying for #1 in the US. Which is fair enough because it was extremely close behind Mariah on Christmas week in 2021 and 2022, so just a little bit of extra promotion could do it.
  5. Yeah I remember that. After Adele's and Ed's albums came out it put into perspective that Coldplay's opening week was actually fantastic.

I mean, really you could say the same about the weekly charts, that songs out from the start of the week have an advantage over those that are released half-way through. It would be interesting to see see rolling year-end charts (i.e. weekly charts that are totals of the previous 52 weeks of sales) to see all the songs that would get to #1 and how high other songs could get.
  7. Yeah not what I was asking but it's still a good fact to know. The Spanish music trend from the end of last decade was shot-lived in the UK but in the US it's basically permanent now, Bad Bunny is one of the biggest artists over there. The collab Little Mix did is insanely catchy, I can't deny it.
  8. Well, that makes more sense. But I'm still surprised it hasn't been in since then. I'm not really bothered, but it's quite a classic. I guess nobody will ever know the answer to this, but I wonder what the biggest song to never be in the UK Spotify top 200 is.
  9. My Wicked Heart got SO much vitriol when it was out. I couldn't understand it. And I'm quite surprised that Under the Bridge hasn't been in the top 200 before.
  10. I've always counted this situation as a post-album single as well. And I would still say the IDGAF situation is quite rare (although yes, it does seem like the most common way for one to happen is if it blows up within like 10 days after an album is released). Also, do we even know if IDGAF is going to be a single at all? It might still be just an album track. If it were to get announced as a single in November for example, we'd have to consider it a post-album single that just did well as an album track, surely? Although I feel like post-album singles have been doing better recently. Like Kill Bill, Cruel Summer, Die For You, Cuff It, etc. So it can be done. A few years ago it seemed like it was almost never happening. EDIT: I've done some research into Drake's situation, and it looks like his current single is Rich Baby Daddy. It has been sent to radio in Italy, it's on Radio 1's playlist, it's been playlisted by over 100 radio stations in the US already and was added to Today's Top Hits so that seems to be the song his label are trying to promote.

Flowers has such a big lead now, for anything to catch up to it it would have to be some kind of phenomenon. It's a bit boring that the year-end #1 was decided so early this year. Even in the first half of the year the chance of anything being able to overtake it was miniscule. I liked the year where it was God's Plan vs. One Kiss, it was a battle right until the end of the year.
  12. I'm not surprised Unforgettable is there. It's always been really high on other lists I've seen like on Kworb, etc. And wasnt it like #3 on the year-end chart behind Shape of You and Despacito? Also, it was a hit at the perfect time. Not too early when streams were low, but not too late that it's too recent to catch up to other songs. I honestly was half-expecting it to be there before I saw the list
  13. It might help Escapism hold at #2 on the year-end charts, Miracle and Sprinter are so close behind so any boost it gets can make all the difference.
  14. I predicted correctly (just about)! :D I can't remember what the vote totals were when I voted, but I do remember that 30,000 - 39,999 was not far behind in 2nd place.

By my count, Michael Jackson had 10 in the 2009 year-end album chart (but "only" 3 in the top 50).
  16. I don't think Katy Perry's decline was that big or that shocking. Like with Ed, the signs were there with Prism, the trend simply continued afterwards as expected. For example she released Unconditionally, it was a fully promoted single, just the same as her other songs, and it didn't do anywhere near as well as usual (she got SUPER lucky that she had an album track taking off at the same time so she avoided a lot of drama that she would've otherwise got for getting her first ever "flop" single as she got a huge hit immediately afterwards). She had 2 (or 3) big hits on Prism and then 1 on the album afterwards.
  17. I think he has lost popularity genuinely. The signs have been there for years now. I think he probably will get big hits again but probably from collabs. Or he might have a comeback in a few years like a lot of pop stars do. But I think his success will continue to decline for now.
  18. I think #1 and 30,000 - 39,999.

And the album market is probably still shrinking each year too. (Also coincidentally I'm in Shepherd's Bush atm, about 10 minute walk away from the concert tonight lol).
  20. I think maybe Bru-C - Streetside was the first one to appear in the charts? If you count that as a hit.
  21. Why do Chase & Status have 3 songs in the chart? I'm not complaining but that's so unexpected.
  22. That's possibly the catchiest song on the whole list. I listened to it hundreds of times when it came out. Kid Ink had banger after banger back then.
  23. Why does it say in the list that You Make Me Wanna was released in 2004? lol It was from like 1998, that's why he has 3 #1s and 3 decades. If he performs OMG at the Superbowl that might get a bit confusing.

The decline of hip hop in the US has been even bigger than in the UK. There's about 5 different theories as to why (and it might be a combination of multiple factors), but it's a surprising turn of events for sure. 10 years ago I would've thought hip hop would just get more and more popular. As for females in country music, they've always struggled really hard in that genre, but I think it might actually be a bit worse now than some points in the past. They basically seem to need to do duets or crossover to a pop audience to get a big hit. It felt like to me that women were doing better in country music 10 years ago, but I could be wrong on that, I only based that on skimming through the Hot 100 each week.

In my opinion you should allow DNA testing for children in advance of puberty blockers. If a young boy has gender identity issues, and we find out he actually has XXY or XXXY chromosomes or something like that, then there'd be a LOT less controversy over him getting puberty blockers and maybe eventually transitioning. You can't argue with biology and an actual DNA test. People would understand it a lot more if it's someone who has an actual biological condition. If it's a "normal" kid people are worried they've been manipulated into it. And if it's found out that they have usual chromosomes then there should be mental health evaluations first before going to transition. A shockingly high amount of trans people have been victims of sexual abuse in early childhood, and it's at a MUCH higher rate than non-trans people. So that suggests being a victim of sexual abuse as a young child may cause gender identity issues in the victim. Correlation does not equal causation, but the correlation is there, so that needs to be addressed, it's harmful to ignore this fact, people out there are struggling and need help. And accidentally transitioning someone who temporarily thinks they might trans when they're really not will cause even more suffering to an already damaged person. Also, you guys can pretend to misunderstand what I'm saying all you want. But I'm not going to check this thread again (at least not for a few weeks), so ridicule me all you want. I know there will be people reading who will understand what I mean, that's what's important, and how we can resolve this issue.
