  1. I think Trap Queen has done quite well to be top 40 on iTunes mainly just off a couple of plays a day on Radio 1! :o Shocked to see New York Raining getting played on Capital, probably mainly because of Rita Ora. It's like a much better version of Empire State Of Mind.
  2. ^ Yeah, you're right. You get the urban -> pop crossovers like Don't Tell 'Em, I Don't Mind, Ayo, etc. And you get the pop -> urban crossovers like Thrift Shop, Latch, Fancy, etc. The pop -> urban ones have been more common recently, but it shows that pop music atm is hip hop influenced, since when pop music was dance influenced hardly any songs could cross over. I think one of the weirdest ones in recent years was Royals by Lorde. Whilst the song clearly uses a hip hop beat (and has hip hop references in the lyrics), it's still by a female teenager from Australasia who was marketed as an alternative singer, so the fact that it managed to be a big urban radio hit was impressive (although I'm sure the remixes by Rick Ross and The Weeknd helped a bit).
  3. Pop radio and urban radio have actually been sharing a lot of hits in 2013, 2014 and 2015. But in 2011 and 2012 there were hardly any. Only Super Bass, 5 O'Clock, Girl On Fire and a few others. But also streaming benefits certain songs a lot. Drunk In Love, Anaconda, Harlem Shake and Trap Queen would never have got top 2 without Youtube streaming. And there are songs from the past which probably would've gone top 2 on the Hot 100 but didn't get played much on pop radio had streaming been included back then (for example Rack City).
  4. It'll probably get there eventually, but I'm not sure about next week as I checked and it's got pretty much no airplay yet.
  5. The stations listed there are mostly just clones of each other, and only reach a small portion of the country. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauer_City_3 Unfortunately it is pretty much all about Capital (well, not completely, but way too much :().
  6. I think they must include streaming, because Drunk In Love has probably sold around 2 million and Only around 1 million. It's impressive that Avicii's gone gold with an album track in the US!
  7. I've heard this song again on the radio recently, I hope it's going to get more promotion!
  8. This is what I wish the chart runs of really big hits would be tbh (i.e. a faster drop). If the song gets played on the radio a lot it'll probably climb back up the charts and become a hit, if not then I think it'll just fall and hover around the lower parts of the top 1500 for a few months then disappear completely. It could also end up a hit if it's used on TV or in an advert or somehow ends up in a viral video.
  9. Love those songs going 3x platinum!
  10. You mean hit after hit like Pour It Up -> Right Now -> What Now? Well, What Now did quite well in the end to be fair.
  11. The songs of his I hear the most are Get Busy, Temperature and Breathe. They always get a brilliant reaction too. Whenever I hear him in a club (which is a LOT ) I never know half the words, but I just mouth along anyway and pretend I do.
  12. I was thinking the same about Go All Night while I was typing that out. Surely it was only a few months ago it got released? Personally I don't hear it that much anymore, last time I remember hearing it was in my gym probably around a couple of weeks ago (I just know I'm going to hear it somewhere today now I've wrote that :drama: ). I was always quite annoyed that they put probably the most famous singer they've managed to collab with so far on one of their weaker tracks (in my opinion). I'm not worried for Lean On at all tbh. It's made such good progress so far that I think it's going top 10 no matter what. I don't think it's close to peaking yet.
  13. Jennifer Hudson update: 11. Trouble 95. Spotlight 179. And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going 561. Go All Night 597. And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going 625. If This Isn't Love 769. Go All Night 1189. Love You I Do 1427. Go All Night
  14. Ah right! Nice. :D This will probably be its peak week in the charts then, unless it gets play-listed.
  15. They've played Trap Queen on Radio 1 this morning and now it's climbed to #73! :D
  16. How can people not have heard any Major Lazer songs before? You're missing out guys!
  17. I think Omi will still get #1. It's clearly going to be a million-seller with huge longevity not to mention the charts move quite slowly now, I think it'll get #1 at some point.
  18. Major Lazer and DJ Snake almost top 10 on iTunes! :D What a fantastic day to be alive. :)
  19. This is probably the case with (almost) every song in the top 40 though.
  20. Lean On is awesome! Like a more chilled out version of Turn Down For What.
  21. That's honestly pretty cool. If in 20 years a radio station did this for the 00's I'd definitely listen!
  22. Ahhhhh! :( It looks like (Ed Sheeran and) Rudimental might miss #1. :( I really thought they had it in the bag. :(
  23. That's a pretty memorable top 6 for 2001! :o Same for 2006's whole top 10 tbh (Kelly Clarkson's song is the only one iffy one there, but I feel like I'd know it if I heard it). Usher - More is one of the worst songs I've heard in my life. Both the original and the remix (what was the point in them even doing that lol).
  24. lol. It's normal though, usually you get a few recurrents at the bottom of the Heart FM chart. Also lol @ Rudimental being #1 on Radio 2! :D I assume the station is mainly playing the original version. I can't believe Capital's 40th most-played song gets played 3-4 times a day. :drama: It's such a frustrating station to listen to...
  25. Hooray! I think Ed Sheeran is definitely going #1 next week. I hope so if it gets Rudimental another #1.
