  1. I don't think they will. Recently I read about one of them criticizing the current dance music.
  2. This list doesn't look right to me. After reading vidcapper's threads all year, some of these songs are too far off. Looking at the list, it does seem the most likely explanation is that streaming from the first half of the year hasn't been counted. I say this because songs from the first half of the year like Dark Horse, Let It Go, Drunk In Love, etc. are lower than I expected. HOWEVER, remember the year-end charts played on Radio 1 haven't always been the same as the official ones. There've been years where they've done it a week early for example. Hopefully the official one will include streaming from the whole year, as I think it's fairer and it's always a bit messy doing a year-end chart for a chart that changed its rules halfway through.
  3. Love Me Harder is 100 bpm, so it's probably too slow to be a dance-pop song (usually they're about 110-130 bpm I think). It doesn't really have the percussion patterns of R&B songs though (at least modern ones), although the same could be said of Adorn and Hold On We're Going Home, so I don't know.
  4. I highly doubt it's made up. They probably just get given sales data from iTunes or something like that.
  5. I think both things are connected, white people being more marketable for record labels than black people when doing R&B/hip hop is why they're dominating those genres atm, at least in the mainstream. I think it's probably because it's more unusual, and also I think a white person can record a hip hop song and pretend it's a pure pop song quite easily. Like I bet a lot of people don't realize that Dark Horse, Royals, Fancy, etc. actually have hip hop instrumentals. On the other hand, the dance-pop trend of around 2008-2011 was dominated by black people, so it evens out I guess.
  6. Things have honestly changed a lot in the past couple of years when it comes to race in mainstream music. For example, it used to be rare to see a white person having a hit with an R&B, hip hop or soul song, but in 2013 and 2014 it's become very common (to the point where it almost seems more common for white people to get hits in these genres now). Channel 4 is the best out of the main 5 channels imo! I also like BBC3 and E4. I'd put Channel 5 in the "Who watches that?" category. I hardly ever find myself watching it.
  7. However, I remember on previous Christmases we miss a lot of this since iTunes decides not to update for ages.
  8. That's ridiculous imo. Firstly only like 10 songs get to #1 each year, so it's extremely difficult, I think using #1 hits as a barometer for "success" is a bit extreme (by this logic Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, etc. aren't successful in the US, when clearly they are. Secondly, What Makes You Beautiful was more successful chart-wise than some #1s, it might as well count as a #1 tbh.
  9. lol. Skrillex did a song with him recently too.
  10. No, she's not totally banned. The only artists that are totally blacklisted from the station are probably people like Gary Glitter, etc. They played her in August for example (nice to see Bobby Shmurda got a play in this show too ): http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04bmvdn I'm sure they'll play her if she charts top 40, and if she did get another big hit they'd probably give it a few spins outside the chart show (although I know obviously it's a bit of a circular situation). Not sure about Radio 1, but I remember Galaxy FM played Celebration a lot (I think they played a remix though). They also played 4 Minutes (obviously) and Give It 2 Me.
  11. I always thought it was "What you drivin? I said" Such a good song. The Alesso song is terrible, very distressing to see it top 10 on iTunes.
  12. I've started hearing Fergie's song on the radio the past couple of weeks, never heard Gwen's though.
  13. I think it's possible. Look at how the group charity single declined in sales, the 2008 one had huge sales, but by 2011 the sales were a lot lower. If they were still releasing the group charity singles, they'd probably be missing #1 (which is probably why they stopped doing them). Also, streaming is going to have a bigger weight in the future. At the moment streaming makes up about 55% of "sales", but by this time next year it could be 65%+ as the figure is rising fast, and this will hurt X Factor singles I think. So I think they could miss #1 eventually, especially if the show will still be going on 2017 and later. What they might do is have them perform original songs, and try harder to give them good songs since then they'll get streamed more. I'm not one of those people who hates all reality shows and hates all covers, but the X Factor ones are usually quite poor. They get completely different songs and somehow manage to make them all sound the same as each other, the production is nearly always boring, with a cheesy key change at the end. If they actually gave them good songs (like Sound Of the Underground) then they might manage to keep getting Christmas #1s.
  14. I'm actually not sure what the next US #1 will be (for a change, it's usually obvious weeks in advance ). Could be any of Hozier, Mark Ronson or Ed Sheeran.
  15. The Phillip George song is a weird case since it's a rap remix which made that song famous, but it's the original version that going to chart. Usually it's the other way around with songs like Tsunami, Boneless, Dr. Who, etc, where the originals are the ones that get famous but then they put rapping on for the commercial release. It could be the 2nd song to get #1 on sales but miss out officially. Uptown Funk's streaming will be huge. I kind of wish Uptown Funk was saved until January, since I think it stood a genuine chance at being the year-end #1 in 2015.
  16. If that happens it would make it probably the most front-loaded song I've ever seen! Obviously it will be front-loaded, but I don't think it'll be THAT much. Radio 1 will probably be giving it a dozen or so spins on its release week, and add onto that other types of promotion like the iTunes top 10 effect and maybe some MTV plays, I think it should get a few thousand more sales later on in the week at least. And I forgot to mention this is Lethal Bizzle we're talking about, he'll probably promote it on Twitter too, he does that even with his features.
  17. This is what I was thinking too.
  18. Am I the only one surprised at Matt Cardle's single sales. Didn't it pass a million ages ago, and now it's only at 1.01 million? I know X Factor singles don't tend to trickle-sell well, but I didn't think they'd sell that slow. James Arthur's sales were probably helped a bit since I think his was the first year where the winner's single was also a charity single.
  19. I heard this song and it wasn't very good imo, they should've released Can't Hold Us Down.
  20. Maybe the fact that Tuesday is being held back means they're going to try and get it radio airplay on big stations. I think they would've just released it straight away otherwise. I could see it getting re-released in 6 months and Radio 1 playlisting it then.
  21. The Motto missed top 75, so I'd be surprised if Tuesday made top 100! We'll see though, at the end of the day, when it comes to the charts, the ONLY thing that matters in this case is whether Radio 1 or Capital plays the song. I think Radio 1 might, but Capital is unlikely.
  22. There are already loads of rap remixes of Turn Down For What. But one as the winner's single for x factor would have been the best thing to happen to mainstream music in decades. Oh well. :(
  23. I wouldn't be surprised if Photograph has already 'sold' over 100,000.
  24. I think they might not playlist Gwen until she releases one of her Pharrell collabs or something tbh. But I hope they play her.
  25. Well Pink could've got that week with streaming then, unless Let's Get Ready to Rhumble was really far ahead in sales (which I don't think it was). I seem to remember Let Her Go peaking around the same time of Get Lucky and Blurred Lines, so probably couldn't have beaten them anyway if I'm correct. Maybe sometime early next year where sales for the #1s are low and all the Q4 releases are releasing their post-album singles it could happen.
