Friday Chart Predictions
On Air, On Sale was happening even in 2009, when I started following the charts (and I assume before that), but it tended to be quite rare, and with songs by minor artists, or songs that weren't expected to be hits. They were also more common from US artists than UK artists. There were a number of cases of European dance hits originally being released immediately for download in the UK, only for them to be removed from iTunes when they started getting popular (or when the record company saw potential for the song to be a hit), so that they could hold them back and get a high debut. I guess you say 2011 because of Price Tag by Jessie J? It was a highly publicised OAOS song, but it was far from the first. They did it because her previous single, Do It Like A Dude was a surprise hit and unexpectedly climbed all the way to #2 with an immediate release, so they thought they would try it with Price Tag. But the funny thing was that it debuted at #1 on its release week anyway, and nowadays you would never know it was OAOS from looking at its chart run. Also, post-album singles were all technically OAOS the whole time in the digital era, and many of them did very well. The Way I Are in 2007 for example went all the way to #1.

I know there's like 20 of them, but this is now the 3rd person from Glee Cast to pass away? And they were all pretty young too. And maybe there's another case of a pop group having multiple early deaths but I would assume that it's likely to to one incident like a plane crash, rather than 3 seperate incidents like this.

Do we still have a British music scene?
I would call them pop stars. Definitely Leona Lewis, Jessie J and Jess Glynne. With those American pop stars you talk about, they've been specifically trained and groomed since childhood to be pop stars. A lot of people don't know this, but it's true.

The Buzzjack Friday Chart Show Thread-3rd July 2020
I agree. I had to listen to Capital FM the past couple of days at work. I'm shocked at how so many remakes of old songs there are at the moment. It's either a huge coincidence or it's going to be a trend. There was a lot of this in the mid-00s as well.

Friday Chart Predictions
In 2010 was the first time I ever used Spotify. And back then they used to have not just a top 50 songs chart for the UK, but also a top 50 artists and a top 50 albums too. The top 3 artists at the time were 1. Eminem 2. Lady Gaga and 3. Jason Derulo. So that really is quite a coincidence. I actually went to listen to her song My Wicked Heart the other day (it popped into my head out of nowhere and I haven't heard it in probably about 8 years but I remember liking it), and it's nowhere to be seen on Spotify. A lot of other people despised that song (which I never understood), so maybe they deleted it from Spotify out of embarrassment?

What do you mean? Her fans were astronomically annoying. They were much worse than even Justin Bieber fans.

Big Brother: Best Shows Ever
About Ulrika, the producers clearly have a huge amount of favouritism towards her. Firstly they paid her a huge amount of money to go in the house, secondly she was a pretty non-eventful housemate but they act like she's an iconic one, and thirdly she managed to win even though the public never seemed to have a strong opinion of her (I suspect there were some dodgy things going on behind the scenes to get her to win but I can't prove this). They could just show everything Makosi did and it would be fantastic. But a lot of the show can't be shown today. For example in BB7 there was a transgender girl in the house but half the housemates insisted of calling her "he", and made cruel jokes about her. Including Nikki, in fact she was probably the worse one for this. This passed a lot of people by at the time, but if this was shown today she'd become a very hated public figure. Same with Rex, he'd be considered extremely misogynistic and sexist if his series was shown today. Like how he was calling Sara a $l*t, or how he wouldn't let Nicole wear high heels because she wasn't allowed to be taller than him, or how he used to tease Bex for being fat. The accusation was levelled at the time, but people didn't care so much in those days. A lot of the most liked housemates wouldn't be liked in today's social climate. I don't even know if BB could work today, they'd have to be ejecting someone every week for some kind of bigotry.

That looks promising. I think it could become a big hit.

UK Number 1 Singles by Genre
Hot Right Now was the 1st one but Feel The Love and Waiting All Night by Rudimental came after, and the Sigma ones as someone else said. Maybe others as well, I can't remember off the top of my head. DJ Fresh also got the 1st ever dubstep #1, so he did it with 2 genres! Other dubstep #1s I can think of are Promises by Nero, Stay Awake by Example and RIP by Rita Ora (I know people will disagree with the latter two because they're by pop stars but they are both 140 bpm with dubstep drum patterns and are produced by Nero and Chase & Status respectively, so I don't see why they shouldn't count).

Friday Chart Predictions
Is this seriously true? I said last week (about 6ix9ine) that young people are messed up and that there'll eventually be white supremacists in the chart. Didn't expect to be proven right within a week though lol.

Spotify & Apple Music Chart Discussion
Lady Gaga did not transfer Stan culture to pop music. Before Lady Gaga existed, people like Madonna and especially Britney Spears had VERY obsessive fans. Even the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis and the various girl groups before her did. Certainly people like Kylie. If you saw what Avril Lavigne stans were doing on YouTube back in 2007 and 2008... Or even Britney stans for that matter lol (LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!). I don't know why Lady Gaga keeps getting credited for things that happened before she existed? It's ridiculous. Your post makes other good points though.

How do BTS fans have all this money to keep buying their music? Aren't most of them like 11 years-old?

Friday Chart Predictions
I think deep down you know the answer. Have you not seem all the films, TV shows, video games, etc. from the past few decades that CHILDREN have been consuming? 6 year-old children regularly see porn nowadays. They are growing up in a time where saying the N-word is considered worse than punching someone or cheating on your wife (I couldn't think of something less logical if I tried). I know I'd be very confused if I grew up today. 6ix9ine isn't that surprising, and won't be the last, you'll probably have ISIS members and white supremacists in the charts eventually.

lol. A lot of Fortnite players weren't even alive when Lady Gaga was popular! The audience of Songs Of Praise are probably more familiar with her.

Oldest acts to reach No1 in the Official UK Chart
It's surprising that most of these are quite recent. Almost all of them are 1999 onwards.

Friday Chart Predictions
Me too. The Jonas Blue songs I've heard are awful. The Fast Car remix... The only Duke Dumont song I've ever heard that I didn't like as much was I Got U. It wasn't awful, I just didn't think it was amazing.

I find this so funny. The song is like 5 years old! :o It has a spectacular number of views on Youtube as well.

All of that applies to Pack Up by Eliza Doolittle but it didn't stop it from being a big hit.

Wow! An iTunes update where I know all the artists for once! :D I used to fancy Hayley Williams, I think I mentioned that on here before.

20 years ago...The Top 6 was all new entries
I agree. I'd put the song up there with Shakespeare and the Bible, and I really mean that.

20 years ago...The Top 6 was all new entries
I think the lyrics in The Bad Touch are exceptional, but I do think the song was mixed... poorly. (I shouldn't say poorly because it's not mixed badly, but it's not up to standard with other pop songs from the time). I wouldn't ever connect this song to the Pet Shop Boys lol. But I see it now.

20 years ago...The Top 6 was all new entries
The Bad Touch is my favourite out of those. When was the last time there was a chart battle between new entries? I know Nice For What and One Kiss were released the same week, but I assume it was pretty obvious at the time that Nice For What would win? I think the problem now is that when there is a chart battle, it's not all or nothing. A lot of the time, like it's Saint JHN vs. The Weeknd, it's just "Who will get one more or one less week at #1?". It's different when there's two (or more) songs and they've only got that ONE chance to reach #1.

Spotify Chart Thread [March 2020]
It's ridiculous and completely over the top. You'd think she was as big as people Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber or Drake with the way they treat her, but the truth is she's nowhere near. She's not even half as big as them. I would argue maybe not even quarter.

I was expecting Akon and Styles P to be in the charts this year (the latter claims he's had the virus and recovered from it).

Predict: End of decade 2010-2019 early predictions
Reading the first page, imagine if a time traveller came back and told us that Rihanna - Only Girl wouldn't even be in the top 100. None of us would have believed it! :o It's a bit silly really, that song was massively successful (it was released near the end of the year and ended up the 4th biggest-selling song, and one of the songs ahead of it was an X Factor winner's single). I remember how amazed I was at its success in the charts.
