The same applied to Cheerleader and Lush Life though? They were on an absurd amount of Spotify playlists (for no reason, I suspect someone paid a lot of money for it, or maybe a high level Spotify employee stanned the songs and decided to sneak them into as many playlists as they could), and it's pretty obvious they caught on initially because people were accidentally hearing them due to autoplay, rather than actually choosing to listen to them. Isn't this similar to what's happening with Ellie Goulding's song? In the case of Lean On, whilst it was also on an absurd amount of Spotify playlists, which wasn't reasonably justifiable, at least Diplo and DJ Snake were famous beforehand, so I can understand people being interested to hear a collab between them, but the extent on the playlisting, as if it was a new Ed Sheeran or Justin Bieber song, was still suspicious. Maybe this Ellie Goulding song will catch on and become a genuine hit and still be charting in the top 10 in March, and then you'll mention the suspicious Amazon behaviour surrounding this song to someone in 2024 and some guy will insist that you were just imagining it, but you'll know that wasn't the whole story. The fact of the matter is, the first 1,000,000 people in the UK to ever hear Cheerleader, 90% of them heard it through Spotify (and the other 10% probably heard it via someone who heard it on Spotify), and had it not been on all those playlists (which it appeared on for no apparent reason), it might still be a relatively unknown song today. It's not like the song got popular from Vine or Tik Tok, or from festivals, or from underground raves, it was from Spotify playlists.

Yes, they're not comparable. Dua Lipa literally had segments dedicated to her on the 6 O'Clock News on BBC One, broadcast to the entire country, when hardly anybody even knew who she was.

It seems similar to what happened with Cheerleader, Lean On and Lush Life on Spotify (or what's happened with Dua Lipa's entire career through every possible advertising medium).
  4. It's really hard to decide, but maybe 2013. I loved the 2013 - 2016 period. 2012 was okay-ish as well. 2017-2019 seem to have been good, but I haven't really experienced these years for various reasons. I've heard some great hit songs from these years though, like Ladbroke Grove, Shape Of You, Cola, Sicko Mode, Piece Of Your Heart, Unforgettable.

If that's the case, can't they just re-release All I Want For Christmas is You during the next month or two to get it to #1 for Christmas then? That Lizzo song itself is a re-release anyway. I looked on Wikipedia and it even had a remix EP and everything.

Why do the Teletubbies have so many votes for least favourite single cover? It's PERFECT for what it is. What do you expect? For them to not be on the cover at all? Or lying on the floor with their legs open? Chill out people. It's a great single cover.

The Saturdays have some good songs, but I think they're extremely overrated on this website.
  8. Haha thanks. That's most of the ones I was thinking of, but I'm sure there were a couple more as well. Yxng Bane did a popular remix of Shape Of You as well (at least on Youtube). On that topic, I like Pet Shop Boys and Robbie Williams - She's Madonna. And on the topic of The Wanted, there was a question about their song "I Found You" on The Chase a few weeks back! I knew the answer, but the guy there got it wrong lol. It's a good song, but you can draw a straight line to it from: Stereo Love -> On The Floor -> Glad You Came -> I Found You.
  9. Post Malone has songs named after him now?! It took about 6 years for that to happen to Rihanna (although to be fair, she's had like 5 of them now).
  10. I saw that video clip. I was absolutely speechless, I couldn't believe it. She proudly proclaimed this information to the whole world. And when I say "proudly", she really was proud. She said it as if it was one of her biggest achievements in life, and as proof that she deserves money, fame and success?? "I worked so hard to get where I am today, I had to drug and rob people to get here, my life was so hard" is basically what she was saying. And she was crying in the video and making it out that SHE'S the victim? Absolutely unbelievable, she's one of the most privileged people on Earth, she's one of the most privileged people that have ever lived. Everyone has hardships in life, some people are poor their entire lives, yet don't drug and rob people. In fact, the overwhelming majority of people don't do that, and most of the ones who do aren't proud of it. How would you guys like it if some hot guy seduced you, you invited him to your house, then he refused to have sex with you, drugged you, stole your money and possessions, and then ran away? It's just awful. And she says she's done this multiple times? She's a worse person than Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea combined, and that's saying something.
  11. But I'm pretty sure it was a single in the end, it was played a lot on Capital (it might have been Galaxy FM at the time). The radio DJs kept mentioning the Halo situation whenever they played it.

Yes, Google is very smart. It actually gets pretty annoying sometimes. Apparently the algorithm is so complicated (and uses Artificial Intelligence) that none of the staff who work there know exactly how it works anymore. For the record, I notice little difference between using a private or incognito window in general. A better idea to test what the average person in the UK would be seeing might be to go to a public library computer and use that, although I do agree with you Dave (the artist) would probably be the main result at this point, but since all of us here use a pop music forum we can't really be 100% sure our results aren't being skewed.

Yes, it does. And your location too (e.g. someone in Canada who searches Dave will get different results to someone in the UK). Probably other things as well, it's a badly kept secret that all the big Internet companies share their information about users/IP addresses with each other in exchange for large sums of money. For example, if your online activity suggests you are obsessed with the TV channel called Dave, that would probably be the first thing that comes up when you search it on any major search engine. DuckDuckGo is a good search engine if you want more "neutral" and uncensored results. I get mostly Dave the artist too, but also a lot about some political film from the early 90's called "Dave". I agree though, that's it's a risky stage name. If I were a music artist I would choose something more unique where you know if people search you it will come up. But nothing with symbols or weird spellings, I think things like 3OH!3 or XO Tour Llife are risky in a different way lol.
  14. Um... surely like Beethoven is more famous than everybody mentioned here?
  15. The new version is good. It's crazy, it doesn't seem long ago that the original was out.
  16. I actually don't think it will make much of a difference. As far as I know they were playing the same music, it was just the presenters and travel and news updates which were different (and I assume different adverts as well). I'm not 100% sure but I remember years ago I used to check what they were all playing, and the different regional stations were playing the same songs in the same order, even during the peak driving hours.
  17. If you believe the new Avril Lavigne isn't a body double, then how do you explain the existence of the Hello Kitty? The original Avril would never have done that.
  18. What The Hell was probably in the top 100 on Spotify. Unfortunately, I don't think there were any archives from that time, but in 2011 the Spotify charts were generally similar to the iTunes charts, except with hip hop and alternative/rock songs doing a bit better, so I think it's very likely she's been in the top 100 before.
  19. Because they've become a millionaire from doing so? It was near the beginning of her career that the body double took over, around 2003 or something.
  20. That's because they replaced her with a body double.
  21. They should do a point system to weigh the sales differently from different years when they do lists like these. For example, divide the sales that each song gets each year by the combined sales of the year-end top 100 (maybe only from the #3 - #100 positions so that anomalies like Candle In The Wind, Do They Know It's Christmas, Is This The Way To Amarillo, X Factor winner singles, etc. don't skew the results too much). And then add the numbers all back together. If they did something like that then Breathe would be in the top 3 (maybe even #1, but Cheap Thrills and Rockabye were also hugely successful no matter how you measure them), and Hair and No Lie would be lower than Temperature and Get Busy which is where they should be in all honesty.
  22. I think a lot of the chart hits from 2012 were really, really awful to be honest (of course there were a lot of great ones though). There are up-beat songs with strong melodies like Unforgettable, Shape Of You, Cola, Mabel's new song, the new Gesafflestein/Weeknd song. I don't even know that many chart songs from the past few years (I was in prison for a while), so there's probably many more. And I'm not sure why you mentioned Sweet But Psycho of all things? I listened to it and it's a mid-tempo song and the synths in it are quite subtle? I guess it does have a prominent melody though.
  23. No. Who on earth would expect that lol? Even people like Rihanna have never accomplished that. Usually it's people like Ed Sheeran, Take That, Coldplay, Adele, etc. who you might expect to have one of the 2 best-selling albums of the year.

Er, of course they are. What a ridiculous question. Westlife are easily in the top 10 best pop groups of all time, and they always will be. It's not feasibly possible to surpass their quality and success anymore, One Direction is pretty much the best a pop group can do nowadays, and they didn't even get to 25% of Westlife's success. Westlife are up there with the best all-time pop groups along with The Beatles, Far East Movement, Pink Floyd, Metallica and the Military Wives Choir. You never need to ask if Westlife are still top 65. The answer will ALWAYS be "yes". Whether they're top 5 is debatable, but they are definitely top 10.
  25. They actually use these categories for UK radio stations as well, and Heart FM is classified as HAC. The biggest radio station classified as an AC in the UK is Radio 2. Heart FM does have an extremely slow turnover though, I certainly won't argue with that lol. But to be fair Capital FM is almost as bad even though it's meant to be a pop station.
