Songs that weren't #1 but sold more, had more chart life
I think it's the case with most recent years too tbh. Probably the 2006-2008 period would have the least as there were long-running #1s in those years, but I think the others years would be a similar story to 2000 with loads of songs which didn't get #1 beating the sales of lot of the actual #1s. For the year-end charts you can see them on Wikipedia, if you search "2000 in British Music Charts" or something like that.

I'm impressed she has so many songs in the top 1500! :o

Songs that weren't #1 but sold more, had more chart life
You could just look at the year-end charts and see which songs from each year are higher than half the #1s. For example in 2000 you have: Baha Men - Who Let the Dogs Out S Club 7 - Reach Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch Trusteppers & Dane Bowers ft. Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind Bomfunk MC's - Freestyler Darude - Sandstorm Sisqo - Thong Song Artful Dodger - Movin' Too Fast Tweenies - Number One Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers etc.

Questions that chart fans make every Q4
About this one, I actually think it'll be even less than usual as streaming will favour songs from earlier in the year, as the big hits from early on will have had many months to accumulate streams, so songs released at the end of the year will need to be super successful to catch up.

US Hot 100 - 10/04/2014
On the other hand, most of the time people DO listen to a song on Youtube it's for the song, not the video. In the US Dark Horse was the most viewed song on VEVO one week before it even had a music video, which proves people do listen for audio. The situation you describe is a minority in my opinion. Not to mention, with sales you have just as many problems, if not more. Facebook campaigns, discounts, pre-order tracks, mutli-buying, fake versions, held back releases, fanbases getting songs to #1 even though nobody else likes/knows them, etc. The UK chart is by no means perfect too, who cares if there's a viral video on Youtube causing a song to spend a week in the top 20 every now and then?

US Hot 100 - 10/04/2014
I wouldn't mind Youtube being in the UK chart tbh. Songs like Booty and Hot Boy only come once every few weeks, most of the rest of the chart is pretty "normal". And I'd argue with those songs they are well-known, even if it's due to viral videos, so perhaps they deserve to be charting.

Leona's record label should promote the song again this year as if it's a new release. If they do that for a few years it could end up taking off by itself afterwards every year and that would be a very good investment for them.

Round 13: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
Glad to see Jason Derulo in the lead.

I think it's just because Capital is playing it? In 2011 they'd never have played a song like this, but this type of music has done well in the charts this year, so they're probably more open to playing these kinds of snogs now. In the top 40 we've had: Kid Ink - Show Me Iggy Azalea - Fancy will.i.am - Feelin' Myself will.i.am - It's My Birthday Trey Songz - Na Na I feel like another one made top 40 too but I can't remember which one (I actually forgot Na Na even charted until you mentioned it). Or Birthday Shhhhh as the radio edit goes.

OCC: Paloma Faith Top 5 Best Selling Singles
Did she really think she'd get dropped? I was under the impression all her albums sold decently and she's had a fair few hit singles spread out over time as well (it's not like they were all in 2009 and she couldn't get any afterwards). There are hundreds of other artists with record deals who are less successful.

Will we ever have a long-running #1 single again?
Yes. We'll have songs that soend 7+ weels at #1 in the next 5 years. I 100% guarantee it.

Well, yeah, obviously it does best with all three, but if it was just Jessie J it would probably do better than if it was just Ariana or just Nicki. I think the only country where Jessie is the least famous of the three is probably the US.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 21st September 2014
I don't think it is tbh. Jessie J has had a lot more chart success than both Ariana and Nicki, so if anything I think she's the one helping them out.

Worldwide hits that flopped in only one country?
Don't know why, but I'd suspect it's something to do with the song's lack of airplay (only #33 on pop radio and #36 on urban radio), which is factored into the US chart. Maybe the song had limited availability in US stores too or something.

Worldwide hits that flopped in only one country?
The general trend seems to be songs by black artists not charting well in some European country or dance songs not charting well in the US.

Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
Whether it's Meghan or someone else, I'm excited for the first streaming-only top 40. And top 20, top 10, etc. Streaming being added to the chart is good if only for all the new records which can be broken.

Nobody on Buzzjack is going to know why Bobby Shrmurda is. I'm a bit suprrised that Carrie Underwood is top 40 on UK iTunes. I assume it's X Factor. And also, the JLo Iggy video is awesome, but I still think the Shakira/Rihanna video is the best of 2014. It's not as explicit but it's classier.

Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
Adele's album was like 100 times more successful than Emeli's though. Personally I don't think with-holding songs/albums from streaming will increase sales, I was just trying to explain possible reasoning behind why some artists do it. Some people at record companies probably think it hurts sales, and the fact the biggest album of this decade wasn't on Spotify for a year or two after its release doesn't help matters.

Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
Personally, I don't think streaming would affect sales very much (most people do one or the other, I think it's a minority of people that do a bit of both). However, the problem is Adele's 21 wasn't up for streaming, and we know how well that sold. In my opinion it's because of 21 that people like Rihanna and Taylor Swift didn't put their recent albums on Spotify. Even now nobody knows why that album sold so much, and I'm sure record companies would love to emulate its success if they were able to figure out how, but her album not being up for streaming is one of the first things people people could try.

The Veronicas song is #1 on Australia iTunes, so it might do better than expected in the UK.
-
US Hot 100 - 09/27/2014
The song did have some airplay to be fair. I think she'll get a big hit (i.e. top 40) in the US one day. It's inevitable really, and Black Widow will only help her, since now millions more people there will know who she is.

Jason Derulo - The Other Side

The song sounded a lot like I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas. Chipmunk is great at launching careers. First Emeli Sande from Diamond Rings, then Ms. D from Oopsy Daisy and now Talay Riley. He's truly a gift to the music industry.

Yeah, Gust of Wind would do better imo. And I agree with you it's better than Get Lucky. I thought for a minute you were talking about the Usher song, I was going to say it's years ago that song came out. Not sure how well Bailando will do, but I think it has potential to chart. Haven't heard Enrique's previous single, but I think Bailando has a better chance at charting since it's been huge in other countries, and is also likely a better song.

Breach / Kelis 'The Key'
I did work experience for Kelis and Andreya Triana's record label last year. Strange that they both collaborated with Breach, maybe he has some connections with the label.
