  1. To be fair, it's not exactly her poppiest song ever is it? The beat is something that 2 Chainz, YG, Kid Ink, Tyga, etc. would rap on. The song's success has surprised me so much, especially in the US where pop stations don't usually touch songs like this (well, they didn't before, after Fancy blew up they've started playing songs like 2 On by Tinashe and Don't Tell 'Em by Jeremih). I think the music video had a lot to do with it tbh. It targets people that wouldn't like this sort of music, and I think after watching a music video a few times it usually makes you get used to the song.
  2. I've heard Gust of Wind on the radio a few times ever since album release (also Brand New), so I don't know. Capital is the only station that never plays album tracks, but Radio 1 do sometimes. It's a good sign nonetheless!
  3. You might be right about streaming. Maybe their record label will get it on the front page on Spotify on release week so it shoots up the streaming chart fast like Calvin Harris did last week. However, I think One Direction fans will mostly listen to the song on Youtube (which doesn't count towards the chart). I read a study done recently that was talking about the way different demographics consume music and it said young people's main source of music is Youtube, and One Direction probably have one of the youngest fanbases out there.
  4. Gosh, I knew it was popular on here, didn't know it was to THAT extent! :o Yeah, when it was in the charts I do remember a fair few people didn't like it, which is why I don't think it'll finish top 3 in this, but I think it'll get top 10. I think the top 3 will be I Knew You Were Trouble, Summertime Sadness and I Need Your Love, since I just don't remember those songs getting much criticism at all when they were charting.
  5. Yeah, I Love It is definitely making top 10 in this imo. Jason Derulo - The Other Side gets my vote again. Everybody need to calm down and take a step back after voting The Monster, and ponder the consequences of their votes imo. lol
  6. And Gotta Be You back in 2011, I think it *only* got to #3 (which some people at the time thought signalled the end of their career!).
  7. It's possible they could miss #1, it's happened a few times before.
  8. I think Jungle is quite original-sounding (by chart music standards).
  9. The free-fall has begun. :( I think if it wants to be top 40 officially it needs to stay top 30 on iTunes the whole of this week, so fingers crossed.
  10. I think it sounds fine musically, as soul music is good for rapping on, but it would have been nice for them to re-do the instrumental a bit.
  11. Jason Derulo - The Other Side
  12. Personally there are 4 in the top 10 I've never heard: Calvin Harris - Blame The Script - Superheroes Fall Out Boy - Centuries George Ezra - Blame It On Me I've not heard George Ezra's Budapest either (at this point I think I'll never ever hear it), so it wouldn't surprise me if I never hear Blame It On Me too. The only one of these I'm confident I'll get to know is Calvin Harris's song since I know all his other singles.
  13. To be honest, there have been loads of R&B/hip hop songs in the charts in 2013/2014 anyway. I think it all started with Thrift Shop and Suit & Tie early 2013, and after that they have constantly been charting. Body Language is one of my favourites though, so I want it to do well. It NEEDS airplay on Radio 1 and/or Capital though. If not it's just going to free-fall after a couple of days never to be seen in the charts again.
  14. This song probably has the most remixes of any song this year (quite a few by famous people too).
  15. The OCC probably wouldn't need to prepare very much anyway, as they do charts for Scotland, so already collect the data they need. I think they could probably change it at a week's notice if they had to.
  16. I'm lucky that I like Blurred Lines. For all the people that hate the song, I imagine it must have been a nightmare when it was selling almost 200,000 week after week. Gone for Drinking From the Bottle again. Hope it actually goes out this time. It's been close for a few rounds.
  17. Rick Ross at least managed a top 10 album I think (I have no idea how, I can't imagine any of his fans actually paying money for his music ). His best chances at getting chart hits imo would've been his DJ Khaled collabs (All I Do Is Win or I'm On One). In terms of Chris Brown singles imo: (Show Me)>>>>>>>>>>(Main Chick)>>>>>>>>>>>>Loyal>>>>>>>>>>>Fine China>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>New Flame>>>>>>>>>>Love More Show Me is basically my most listened to song in the past 12 months, Main Chick, also being a DJ Mustard song, sounds very similar, but it's also very good. Loyal is awesome obviously. I put Love More last since although it's okay, it's not good enough for me to want to listen to, not to mention I haven't heard it anywhere in the past few months, so I'm probably not the only one .
  18. Shocked Professor Green is top 100 on pre-orders. :o I haven't even heard the song yet, but I heard it sounds like Coming Home, which means I'll probably love it. Here's the Meghan Tonjes version of All About That Bass. The fact she's also called Meghan is quite convenient lol. AdLjvKA5qqo
  19. I think she should have done this song anyway, it could have boosted her career a lot. Sam Smith, Bruno Mars, John Newman, etc. started out their careers with two hit features, and other people like Sia and Pharrell recently got career boosts due to them. Also there are loads of artists who've managed two hits at the same time (I think there was a thread before of people who've had two+ top 10 hits at the same time, and there were quite a few). Perhaps they didn't want her to get typecast as a drum & bass singer. Paloma sounds good on the song though, so I don't mind that much, but I would like Ella to have a lot of success, so this seems like a missed opportunity to me.
  20. Yeah 3x was such a terrible song regardless of the plagiarism anyway.
  21. Yeah, that's what I meant. It sounds like DJ Mustard, and you'd expect it to be since Tinashe and Kid Ink's hit singles were produced by him, but it's not. So now it's The Invisible Men, will.i.am and Stargate who've copied his style. Stargate have a couple of signature sounds imo. They have all the mid-tempo R&B songs from the late 00's like Hate That I Love You, With You, Irreplaceable, Sexy Love, So Sick, Unfaithful, Take a Bow, etc. Then they have the electronic R&B/hip hop songs from the early 10's like Black and Yellow, Talk That Talk, Till I'm Gone, What's My Name?, I'm Into You, R.I.P., Rude Boy, Lose Control (and now Body Language and Black Widow).
  22. In the US there have been numerous songs that went top 10 only because of streaming (Loyal, Started From the Bottom, Love Me, f***in' Problems), but it rarely happens in the UK (granted it hasn't been very long that streaming has been included). I could see it happening with Thinking Out Loud, since it's already high on streaming, so when it gets released there might be a week when it's climbing the charts where streaming pushes it into the top 10 before it gets there on sales.
  23. It's not really a bad thing, but it means there's less incentive for record labels to release songs for streaming early (like with Rude or Am I Wrong). If they've now found a way to be able to get to #3 on Spotify after just a couple of days, what's the point in putting songs early for streaming anymore (from the perspective of trying to debut as high as possible)? Before there was an incentive to put songs for streaming early since it usually takes a couple of weeks at least to get that high, but now if they can replicate this and make it commonplace for songs to shoot up the streaming charts instantly then they might not bother releasing them for streaming early anymore. NOTE: I'm talking purely from a chart perspective.
  24. It would have been nice for some of those songs to be top 10 hits. I don't think there's going to be very many of these tbh. Maybe a post-album single from someone like Ed Sheeran or an indie/alternative artist which gets very close to top 10 on sales, but not quite (and streaming boosts it there officially).
  25. Yeah, I talked about it in the iTunes thread, but this song has had a promotion campaign greater than many held-back songs imo. Even if the song didn't premiere until recently, it's been promoted for ages, even having TV adverts for the pre-order (which must have cost a lot of money). There is no way this release strategy will become normal. Even Taylor Swift's latest single didn't have that kind of pre-release promotion. People might be fine with it now as Calvin is pretty liked by most people, but if One Direction were doing this and pulling out all the stops to debut at #1 then I bet people would be annoyed.
