Taylor Swift doesn't stand a chance at #1. I think she'll be top 20 (but maybe #1 in the US in the next couple of weeks but they include Youtube streaming there). Omi will be #1. It's a great song but I'm surprised it's so successful in the charts.

I like it as well, but it sounds like something will.i.am or The Cataracs would've made 5 years ago. :lol: The bit at the end where it goes all disco is the best, I would have loved a version of the song where it was like that the whole way through.

A few years ago I thought Kendrick was going to do a song with Lady Gaga (:puke: :puke:), and nothing will ever be as scary as the thought of that! Taylor Swift's songs aren't that bad imo. Most of them are just a bit boring (especially the ones like Love Story, etc.), but they're not musically terrible like Lady Gaga's were, so I don't mind Kendrick doing a song with her. Kendrick survived through Give It 2 U so I think this will be fine. :lol:

The 1Xtra playlist never has an effect on the charts. I've seen some songs on their playlist not be in the top 1000 on iTunes before. It needs Capital or Radio 1 (or maybe Heart or Kiss).

I hope this smashes, it'd serve Rihanna right for not releasing her version as a single! :lol:

The reason people get excited about a pre-order being #24 is because it normally means the song is going to #1 (or at least will do well), not because they think it's selling thousands of copies. :lol:

I think Trap Queen has done quite well to be top 40 on iTunes mainly just off a couple of plays a day on Radio 1! :o Shocked to see New York Raining getting played on Capital, probably mainly because of Rita Ora. It's like a much better version of Empire State Of Mind.

You get the urban -> pop crossovers like Don't Tell 'Em, I Don't Mind, Ayo, etc. And you get the pop -> urban crossovers like Thrift Shop, Latch, Fancy, etc. The pop -> urban ones have been more common recently, but it shows that pop music atm is hip hop influenced, since when pop music was dance influenced hardly any songs could cross over. I think one of the weirdest ones in recent years was Royals by Lorde. Whilst the song clearly uses a hip hop beat (and has hip hop references in the lyrics), it's still by a female teenager from Australasia who was marketed as an alternative singer, so the fact that it managed to be a big urban radio hit was impressive (although I'm sure the remixes by Rick Ross and The Weeknd helped a bit).

Pop radio and urban radio have actually been sharing a lot of hits in 2013, 2014 and 2015. But in 2011 and 2012 there were hardly any. Only Super Bass, 5 O'Clock, Girl On Fire and a few others. But also streaming benefits certain songs a lot. Drunk In Love, Anaconda, Harlem Shake and Trap Queen would never have got top 2 without Youtube streaming. And there are songs from the past which probably would've gone top 2 on the Hot 100 but didn't get played much on pop radio had streaming been included back then (for example Rack City).

It was still a success in the UK though. And it got released twice so its total sales are probably quite high for its peak (wouldn't be surprised if it's done better than Break Free tbh).

It'll probably get there eventually, but I'm not sure about next week as I checked and it's got pretty much no airplay yet.

I think they must include streaming, because Drunk In Love has probably sold around 2 million and Only around 1 million. It's impressive that Avicii's gone gold with an album track in the US!

I've heard this song again on the radio recently, I hope it's going to get more promotion!

This is what I wish the chart runs of really big hits would be tbh (i.e. a faster drop). If the song gets played on the radio a lot it'll probably climb back up the charts and become a hit, if not then I think it'll just fall and hover around the lower parts of the top 1500 for a few months then disappear completely. It could also end up a hit if it's used on TV or in an advert or somehow ends up in a viral video.

They don't though. Playlists are for when people don't want to have to go through all the effort of choosing a song to listen to every 3 minutes. They just choose a playlist that they think they'll like, and whatever songs are lucky enough to be included will be the ones getting the streaming points. It's not too major an issue imo, it might only be having a very small effect on the charts overall, but it certainly won't be helping new songs climb the charts faster...

I don't think that song has any chart hit potential tbh. None of their songs that I've heard so far really do, but No Type had the best chance of them all. Before they released it and I saw they got some famous featured artists I thought maybe it'd become their biggest hit but it's just not catchy enough.

He means that if something is in one of the top 100 lists (or any high profile playlist on Spotify for that matter), then it'll keep getting high streams because so many people listen to them, which makes it more difficult for new songs to get in, etc. Being in the top 100 gives you extra exposure so more streams, it's a little bit like the top 10 effect on iTunes. It'd be impossible to really test it, but I bet the streaming charts would move a little bit faster at least if people were forced to search for individual songs to play or forced to make their own playlists.

The songs of his I hear the most are Get Busy, Temperature and Breathe. They always get a brilliant reaction too. Whenever I hear him in a club (which is a LOT :lol:) I never know half the words, but I just mouth along anyway and pretend I do.

Mr. Brightside getting its 400th week in the charts. :lol: It will probably eventually get 10 years imo, especially since it's always high on streaming.

I was thinking the same about Go All Night while I was typing that out. Surely it was only a few months ago it got released? Personally I don't hear it that much anymore, last time I remember hearing it was in my gym probably around a couple of weeks ago (I just know I'm going to hear it somewhere today now I've wrote that :drama: :lol:). I was always quite annoyed that they put probably the most famous singer they've managed to collab with so far on one of their weaker tracks (in my opinion). I'm not worried for Lean On at all tbh. It's made such good progress so far that I think it's going top 10 no matter what. I don't think it's close to peaking yet.
