Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
^ Wow, that's amazing how fast Blame has climbed. It's only been a couple of months and the record labels have already worked out how to make streaming front-loaded.

Wow. :o I stand corrected. I would've imagined its peak to be #253 or something like that lol.

Is this Tinashe's first top 100 on ITunes? I assume 2 On didn't get there as it had little radio support, so had no chance of selling much. The song isn't produced by who you'd expect given how it sounds, it's actually produced by Stargate apparently .

OCC: Pharrell's Happy is the UK's Most Downloaded Track
lol at the top two being R&B songs. A few years ago I thought I Gotta Feeling would be #1 forever, I think its chart success was more impressive.

It's a good thing that they've discounted it imo. But I wish they did it last week, it would have been a nice #1.

Round 6: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
I Need Your Love is probably going to be top 3 I reckon. I just can't imagine anybody on here hating it. Voting Drinking From the Bottle. Great to see it FINALLY in the lead! :D We Can't Stop isn't that bad really. But 23 is a much catchier Mike Will/Miley song. Very sad to see Talk Dirty out. It's one of the most fun and memorable chart hits of 2013 imo. And it's also sad since if Talk Dirty goes out this early no way will Thrift Shop (also one of the most fun and memorable chart hits of 2013 imo) last very long, since given how similar Thrift Shop and Talk Dirty are, most people will either like both or hate both. :(

Daily US Airplay Updates - JUL 2013 - SEP 2014
Probably. Basically every single he releases in the US is guaranteed top 20 as pop radio play his songs so much.

My Everything • 2nd Album
It's okay-ish, but nowhere near as good as you'd expect with The Weeknd imo.

I actually think it's promotion campaign has been quite questionable. I saw an advert on TV about a week ago saying to pre-order the song. Paying loads of money to get an advert on TV just to pre-order a song which hadn't even been premiered in full seems very strange to me. Kind of reminds me of Born This Way in the sense that it was on air, on sale but had a pre-release campaign even greater than some held back songs. They obviously desperately want it to debut at #1, and I wouldn't be surprised if the song has a chart run like Summer tbh. I haven't actually heard the song though, so if it's good I don't mind it getting #1. But if all songs are going to be promoted like this in the future it's going to be no different to how it was before tbh.

Usher - UR (Album)
I like Good Kisser personally, but She Came To Give It To You sounds just like a Justin Timberlake song (not that that's a bad thing, but is Usher wants to do Justin-style music I'd prefer him to do something like My Love since that's R&B perfection).

I think they might have done it because in the past if people searched for something with remix in the title (e.g. 'Prayer in C Remix') the song wouldn't have come up?

Round 4: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
Gosh, Bang Bang out already? :( It's hardly will.i.am's worst song. Drinking From the Bottle again. Seriously, why is this still in? EDIT: YES!! It's in the lead. :D

Hopefully it won't get that extreme thanks to the fact that we don't include airplay, the UK is a smaller country and people might still hold back songs then (meaning shorter chart runs). But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll get some 7+ weekers at #1 in the last half of the decade. On the streaming only chart, Rather Be got 11 weeks at #1 I think. If streaming had a higher weighting (which it will in the future), then I think 1 weekers will become quite rare, and longer runs will be more common.

What do you mean? I don't think how many #1s there are will have any effect on what songs people talk about in the future. Whether there's 10 #1s or 35 #1s this year won't change what songs from now people will still like in the future. Also, this might be the last year with so many #1s, so we might as well enjoy it. In a streaming dominated future there's no way the #1s will keep changing every week.

Round 3: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
Drinking From the Bottle obviously. White Noise is fine, it should get in the top 10 in this imo.

17 Years Ago Today - 31st August 1997
There's a remix of Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go which I've heard about a dozen times this summer. Honey is one of Maria's catchiest songs for sure. Jealous of so many new entries, I wish that would happen today.

And with Kiesza, it's good they didn't try and sync the worldwide releases or else there'd be a 6 month gap between singles. Hideaway is still climbing the charts in the US, so it's good they moved onto the next single rather than waiting.

Prayer in C could have huge longevity if Heart FM plays it. Not sure about Jeremih. I think the song will do like No Mediocre, although Down On Me managed to do well without Radio 1 or Capital playing it (only Kiss I think). I personally think 24 Hours would be more likely to chart. Teeflii isn't as famous as Jeremih, but the song is catchier and also some people are going to get pissed off if they hear Don't Tell 'Em because of the sample. I was hoping Kama Sutra would be Jason's next single but it seems he's going with Bubblegum instead.

Round 2: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
Yay! Come on everybody, let's get Calvin/Tinie and their useless song out.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 24th August 2014
They have no relation to each other, but The Game's song sounds like DJ Mustard (Fancy in particular because of the synths) whilst Ty$'s song is actually produced by DJ Mustard but sounds nothing like his other songs.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 24th August 2014
The Game's current single Or Nah has a lot of features too, but not on that level. It won't go top 40 anyway.

US Hot 100 - 09/06/2014
I think Meghan will still get #1, maybe the week after next with Taylor getting a 2nd week. Lol at Wiz Khalifa dominating Bubbling Under.

Round 1: LEAST favourite year-end top 40 single of 2013
I'm calling it now, the winner will be one of I Knew You Were Trouble, Summertime Sadness or maybe I Need Your Love. Overall I think it's a pretty great top 40, although some of the songs like Dear Darlin, Ho Hey, etc. I can hardly remember so I'll have to go listen to them again, but they can't have been too bad. Voting for Drinking From the Bottle. I like Tinie, and occasionally Calvin, but this song fails to be catchy in any way. Looks like Play Hard might be first out, hopefully their voters will transfer over to DFTB after it goes. :kink:

Yeah, I get what you mean. Perhaps it's one of those songs lots of people know and love atm, but nobody has anything to say about it? Personally I haven't heard the song yet so I don't know if that's the case, I'm just speculating. With respect to Moves Like Jagger, I think it just went by fairly unnoticed with my demographic tbh. I heard it about a million times on the radio, but I think if I didn't listen to the radio I might not even know the song.
-
iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 24th August 2014
To be fair, I don't think I've ever heard anybody talk about Moves Like Jagger in real life yet that's sold 1,500,000 or something.
