Maybe not next week, but Cheerleader could get #1 in 3 or 4 weeks. I know the song has been famous for ages now, but this song is also probably going to be near the top of the chart for months, so it just needs a boost of some sort one week and it'll get there.

They've played Trap Queen on Radio 1 this morning and now it's climbed to #73! :D

I think Omi will still get #1. It's clearly going to be a million-seller with huge longevity not to mention the charts move quite slowly now, I think it'll get #1 at some point.

I suspect Jess Glynne has the #1. :( Bloodstream did almost get up to 0.9 on pop bars for iTunes, so I thought they might still have a chance, but the gap is widening again. :(

That's a pretty memorable top 6 for 2001! :o Same for 2006's whole top 10 tbh (Kelly Clarkson's song is the only one iffy one there, but I feel like I'd know it if I heard it). Usher - More is one of the worst songs I've heard in my life. Both the original and the remix (what was the point in them even doing that lol).

lol. It's normal though, usually you get a few recurrents at the bottom of the Heart FM chart. Also lol @ Rudimental being #1 on Radio 2! :D I assume the station is mainly playing the original version. I can't believe Capital's 40th most-played song gets played 3-4 times a day. :drama: It's such a frustrating station to listen to...

I've thought it for ages too. Same with Firestone (well, not 100% sure that is going to #1 especially as it's not been held-back but it was obvious it was going to be a big hit). I wonder why Rihanna's new song has disappeared. Might just be iTunes being glitchy.

I think this is good tbh. Firstly, as we've discussed before, most people who listen to the chart show aren't specifically listening to it, just listening to the radio and hearing what's on at the time. I'm not an expert on radio listening figures, but I imagine 4-6 on Friday will have a much higher audience than 4-7 on Sunday, so the official charts will reach more people this way. Also, having it cut down to 2 hours is good too, I think it'll make the show more enjoyable to listen to. Perhaps in 2005 when there were loads of new entries a week and 10 weeks in the top 40 would be considered a long-runner it would have been bad as not all the songs could get played, but it's very different today, and frankly nobody wants or needs to hear All Of Me or Thinking Out Loud played in the top 40 anymore. Now they can miss out 10-15 songs from the top 40 each week, so they can miss out those songs that have been charting 20+ weeks or the "Radio 2" songs which often do really well in the charts (Train, Lumineers, that kind of stuff). Last couple of weeks they could've almost missed out the original version of Lay Me Down to save playing it twice. I've wanted Radio 1 to do that too for a while given how slow the charts have been recently (and also given the fact that a lot of big songs never make the top 40), but that would've worked better on a 3 hour show, with 2 hours I think them venturing outside the top 40 will be even more unlikely now, but I wouldn't mind if they did. I think the previous DJ has been playing the #41 immediately before the chart show recently, but it would be better if they played the highest new entry outside the top 40, as the #41 can often be a song that's already been top 40 for months which people are fed up of hearing. It's funny, because most of the songs which just won't ever leave the top 40 are in that situation because Capital FM and/or Heart FM just won't ever stop playing them, and a lot of the songs Radio 1 supports that miss the top 40 do so because their rival stations refuse to ever play them.

I heard that song on Capital FM. It might be one of those songs they only play at night-time though, but if it gets day-time airplay on Capital it should get in the charts. But yeah, this is the sort of modern-sounding electronic R&B I prefer over the retro ones (although I still enjoy most of those too).

King seems like it's going to be the biggest dance-pop-ish chart hit in ages (maybe since 2012? There's Wake Me Up and Timber, but those wouldn't have been #1 hits if it weren't for the folk influences imo). But one big hit doesn't mean it'll cause a comeback. For example, Baby Cakes was a #1 hit in 2005 or some time around then, but it didn't kick off a revival. But I'm not sure if it'll start making a comeback yet, it still wasn't that long ago when it was dominating, other musical trends take much longer to make a comeback usually (like this minimal house music trend, it was last a big force in the charts in the late 90's(?), so it was a very long time before it made a major comeback). I think R&B has been doing pretty well in the charts the past couple of years. Not dominating, but I'm happy that there can be big R&B chart hits again now. The main thing I noticed though is that it's usually the retro-sounding or adult R&B songs which do well. The modern electronic R&B that dominates now doesn't really do that well in the charts (with a few exceptions like Drunk In Love or Loyal), and it'd be nice to see more of that over songs like Suit & Tie, Happy, etc. Even ones like Talk Dirty and Problem are retro sounding with their brass instrumentation, reminding me of stuff from the 00s like Amerie, J-Lo, Beyonce. I think the old-sounding ones just have broader appeal.

Kendrick dominating the singles chart. :o If someone like Kendrick can get so many album tracks top 100, I really can't wait until someone like Ed Sheeran releases their next album, the entire album would probably go top 40 on release week. :lol: Sad that So Freakin' Tight missed the top 10.

Other songs in a similar situation from the past few years that got #1 (Spectrum, Gettin' Over You) weren't even top 40 the week before release but got #1 after the remixes. In this case the original has been top 40 for weeks, so that suggests to me it'll get #1. Unless the OCC are stupid and chart the song separately like they did with Sam Smith (but I think that might have had something to do with it being a charity single tbh).

Out of those I think All Day is going to be the biggest. That Deorro song was a hit last year, I don't see the point in re-releasing it. Chris Brown is famous, but I don't think it'll help much. I don't think it's even that good either, unless the beat has been re-done for this?

Natalia Kills was so horrible in that clip I saw of her. What's wrong with her? I really want to know what goes through her head to make her say things like that... But to be fair, Champagne Showers has probably sold over 100,000, which isn't bad, it wasn't like it went #38-#71-OUT or something like that. She probably wishes she got to feature on Party Rock Anthem instead of Lauren Bennett. :lol:

That's the first song that came to mind to me, but I knew that missed the top 40. He has some other songs with Skream from Magnetic Man too, like this one: 1Sey_0rJZzg Maybe in ~5 years when we get a dubstep revival he'll finally make top 40. :lol:

In a normal case yes, but I don't think this song is getting much airplay on Capital or Radio 1, so it's impossible for it to get to #1. It's nice to see P Money in the charts though (I've seen him high on iTunes before, but I don't know if he's ever got a top 40 hit).
