Wow, Rick Ross is top 40 on iTunes. Probably will be again soon when New Flame gets released.

Classic songs that never became hits...
I know it's not the same, but this song kind of did become a chart hit as Ironik and Chipmunk sampled it.

Wow, lots of great songs released this week! :o Nice to see RariWorkOut top 10 on iTunes, but it'll probably end up #25 or something officially. At least if it can stay there until 6pm then Capital and Heart will be forced to play it once.

Blame (feat. John Newman) • Third Single
Yeah, definitely sounds better than Summer from the clips (which is good, if it didn't it'd be probably the worst song of all time ).

Chris Brown - Don't Be Gone Too Long (Feat. Ariana Grande)
Why wasn't this ever released? It was going to be the follow-up to Loyal but he ended up releasing New Flame instead. I reckon Ariana's label might have changed their mind and forced him not to release it as a single since they don't want her to have too many songs out at once. It's a shame though, since this song was announced way before all the others. Also, the link in the OP is a remix, not the original. I'm hoping it's this decade's No Air.

That's a bit dramatic. I think it's fairly common for release dates to change. I agree it's unfair that boy-bands get singled out so much though.

If The Mega Giants keep climbing this fast they could perhaps get to #5 before the original version is released.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 17th August 2014
The Q4 period isn't always that busy for the singles chart though. Some years it is, but others like 2011 there wasn't much going on, so I don't know what this year will be like.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 17th August 2014
Well, I'm glad Duke Dumont might get #1 after all, although honestly they should have moved it forward a week to block David Guetta rather than move it back a week. I hope The Mega Giants go top 10 on iTunes! For people who were asking earlier, Precision Tunes - Payphone peaked at #3 on iTunes. I also remember strangely enough that it started dropping towards the end.

Well, I don't think either station played Pills N Potions (which is a lot more mainstream-sounding imo). And also, there's been a lot of competition for the Radio 1 playlist in the past few months.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 17th August 2014
Are Radio 1 or Capital ever going to realistically play the song though? I hope he has changed his mind. There's literally no point in a person like him trying to get NME credibility, they'll hate him no matter what. Well, unless he learns to play a guitar. Well, it looks like it has a good chance at top 10 at this stage. Might take a couple of weeks whilst waiting for streaming to catch up though.

This Love, Makes Me Wonder, Misery and One More Night are their catchiest songs imo.

Yay! And nice surprise to see Duke Dumont is getting played on US radio! :o Yeah, she might be Democrat if she likes Obama then. I think most people just assume she's Republican since most country singers are.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 17th August 2014
Isn't Taylor Swift a Republican though? Not all Republicans are against equal rights, but a lot of them are (whether it's for women, gay people, muslims, ethnic minorities, etc.). Personally, I think the song is okay, certainly better than David Guetta's, and I would love for it to somehow beat it to #1! But it must be hard for her fans for her to release songs like this and never release a country song as a mainstream single. Sam Smith is so close to top 10! :o :D

will.i.am has done a song with U2, and it didn't sound much like a normal will.i.am song (although it's probably been years since I heard the song so maybe I've forgotten). RedOne is absolutely tragic. I'm glad he can't get chart hits anymore.

It's strange, but it's happened before I think, with songs like Adele - Skyfall, Ariana Grande - Problem (in the US) and some X Factor winner singles. I find it strange that someone would pre-order a song without hearing it though. I love John Newman's songs normally, but I'm a bit nervous about how this one will sound tbh.

Redlight '9TS (90s Baby)'
I think he could get a top 40 hit again one day (probably not with this song though). I still hear Get Out My Head a lot and I've heard Switch It Off occasionally too, so his name is still out there. 9TS is good, but not his best imo.

I love it personally, although I'm a sucker for anything up-beat with a heavy bassline and loads of percussion. I think in terms of her worst-produced songs Disturbia has to be up there. It's one tacky synth over one tacky kick drum and snare and her vocals on it sound like a watered-down version of T-Pain. A child probably could've made that song.

PREDICT: Ariana Grande - My Everything
I think 200,000 maybe. She was already very famous and had a big chart hit when her first album was released and that sold 138,000 first week. Now she's a little bit more famous and has had 3 chart hits from this album so far (although Break Free isn't the type of song that helps album sales), but also album sales in general have fallen, so about 200,000 is my prediction.

I listened to that song a couple of days ago actually! I forgot he produced it. It's got quite a unique beat (especially for David Guetta who isn't exactly known for being unique ).

Most of them I hate, and there's a lot I liked at first but got tired of quickly (like Titanium...). Ones I can tolerate: - Love Is Gone - Gettin' Over You (probably a bit biased because of Fergie ) - I Just Wanna F (this one is actually amazing tbh) - Who's That Chick? - Boom Boom Pow Remix (original, Kid Cudi and 50 Cent's remixes were much better, but Guetta's remix was okay too) - Phresh Out the Runway (could have been a hit single imo, Rihanna should've release it over Right Now, which wasn't even produced by Guetta apparently) - Sweat Remix (prefer the original by The Cataracs, but the remix is okay too, maybe because it samples an iconic melody lol) - Crank It Up - Sexy Chick (don't really like it that much, but I'm kind of forced to like it since everybody else does) - Turn Me On (as far as Nicki dance songs go, this is probably the best (not that there's much competition )) - Memories (sounds kinda like Fatboy Slim - Right Here Right Now imo, which is probably why I can tolerate it)

List of records that peaked at Number 41
Wow! :o Nice to see it got top 100, I thought it had no mainstream impact at all!

Jason Derülo - Bubblegum (feat. Tyga)
I was hoping they'd go with Kama Sutra, but I reckon perhaps they want to save the song to release all over the world at the same time, so are releasing this in Europe whilst they release Trumpets in the US? I reckon Kama Sutra would do well worldwide, it's pretty much a clone of Show Me by Kid Ink, but it's very up-beat and catchy.

Lee Thompson examines how On Air/ On Stream could change the
I've said for a while that Radio 1 need to do something about the chart show (this was even before streaming was added). The chart is way too slow, and full of songs that people outside Radio 1's demographic like. They should stop playing songs like Happy now, there's literally no point, and I say this as someone who likes the song, but it's really not necessary anymore. They could play a different song instead, one that might not make the top 40 but is actually popular with the audience they're trying to target... When Radio 1 did their count-down of the best-selling digital songs recently, nearly every single one of them was adult contemporary. Nearly every one. There were a few that weren't (e.g. Pass Out, Earthquake, What's My Name?), but for the most part, it became clear to me that you're NOT going to get a massive chart hit if you don't appeal to the over 30's, so should Radio 1 really be placing such a focus on the chart in the first place? I think there are other methods they could use to find songs to play, although I am aware that they've got major record labels sending them songs every week, so no matter what happens those'll probably make up the majority of their playlists.

I think he's saying Rude and Am I Wrong didn't have any adverts or any promotion done by iTunes, due to some rivalry between Apple and Spotify meaning iTunes gets pissed off when a song is released to Spotify early. That's what I got from the article, but it's difficult to get my head around tbh.
